Snowman Gift Box Tower Designed By: Amanda Corbet December 2011 This adorable snowman gift box tower is the perfect way to shower someone special with gifts. Finished as shown this box is over 16 inches tall! Make just one hexagon box, a stack of three, or make it into a tall stack of four boxes and decorate it like a snowman!

Instructions Step 1 Print three copies of the Hexagon Box Tower Bottom and print three copies of the Hexagon Box Tower Lid. For each template type cut out one large hexagon template, one medium hexagon template, and one small hexagon template. Step 2 Use the Hexagon Box Tower Bottom template pieces. Apply 2-Way Glue Pen to the backside of the template, allow the glue to dry until it is clear, apply the template pieces to thin cardboard, and cut out the pieces. The 2- Way Glue is used just to hold the template in place while you cut. Rough cut the hexagon pieces slightly larger than the template with Craft & Rubber scissors and then make the final cut on the Tabletop Paper Cutter to get a nice straight edge. You will need to cut one large hexagon, one medium hexagon, and two small hexagons. Step 3 Use the Hexagon Box Tower Top template pieces. Step 4 Apply Anywhere Glue Stick to the hexagons and glue them down onto the Holly Berry Bouquet Designer Series Paper (DSP) as shown in the photo (Step 4a). Trim around each hexagon with Paper Snips (Step 4b). You will need two 12 x 12 pieces of DSP to decorate all of your hexagons. Step 4a Step 4b Step 5 Using the hexagon templates from Step 2 for the box bottoms, use the 2-Way Glue Pen the same as before to temporarily adhere the template pieces onto Whisper White card stock. Cut out one large hexagon, one medium hexagon, and two small hexagons the same as you did for the thin cardboard in Step 2.

Step 6 Using the hexagon templates from Step 3 for the box lids use the 2-Way Glue Pen the same as before to temporarily adhere the template pieces onto Whisper White card stock. Cut out one large hexagon, one medium hexagon, and two small hexagons the same as you did for the thin cardboard in Step 3. Step 7 Cut thin cardboard as follows: Six pieces 4-1/8 x 3-7/8 (large box) Six pieces 2-7/8 x 3-7/8 (middle box) Six pieces 1-5/8 x 3-7/8 (small box) Cut Holly Berry Bouquet DSP as follows: Six pieces 4-1/8 x 3-7/8 (large box) Six pieces 2-7/8 x 3-7/8 (middle box) Six pieces 1-5/8 x 3-7/8 (small box) Step 8 Apply Anywhere Glue Stick onto the backside of the DSP. Adhere the 1-5/8 x 3-7/8 DSP pieces onto the 1-5/8 x 3-7/8 thin cardboard pieces. Adhere the 2-7/8 x 3-7/8 pieces onto the 2-7/8 x 3-7/8 pieces of thin cardboard. Adhere the 4-1/8 x 3-7/8 pieces of DSP onto the 4-1/8 x 3-7/8 pieces of thin cardboard. Step 8 Step 9 Color the sides of the thin cardboard with the Pear Pizzaz marker as shown in the photo below.

Step 10 Cut Whisper White card stock as follows: One piece 4-3/4 x 11 (small box sides) Two pieces 4-3/4 x 9-1/2 (medium box sides) Three pieces 4-3/4 x 9 (large box sides) Two pieces 2 x 8 (small box lid sides) Two pieces 2 x 9-7/8 (medium box lid sides) Three pieces 2 x 9-1/4 (large box lid sides) Step 9 Step 11 Stamp all of the card stock pieces, including the Whisper White hexagons, on one side with Serene Snowflakes in Crumb Cake ink. Stamp several snowflake images by applying Frost White Shimmer Paint onto the stamp with a Sponge Dauber and stamping the image onto the card stock. Note: To get snowflakes in varying shades of color ink the stamp with Crumb Cake ink once, then stamp the image onto the card stock two or three times before re-inking the stamp. This will give you snowflakes that are progressively lighter in color. Step 11

Step 12 Score the large box sides as shown with the black lines in the picture below. Fold on all of the score lines. Trim the large box sides with Paper Snips as shown with the red lines in the picture below. Step 12 Step 13 Apply Sticky Strip to the large box sides in the locations shown with the blue lines in the picture below. Step 13

Step 14 Score the medium box sides as shown with the black lines in the picture below. Fold on all of the score lines. Trim the medium box sides with Paper Snips as shown with the red lines in the picture below. Step 14 Step 15 Apply Sticky Strip to the medium box sides in the locations shown with the blue lines in the picture below. Step 15

Step 16 Score the small box sides as shown with the black lines in the picture below. Fold on all of the score lines. Trim the small box sides with Paper Snips as shown with the red lines in the picture below. Step 16 Step 17 Apply Sticky Strip to the small box sides in the locations shown with the blue lines in the picture below. Step 17

Step 18 Score the large box lid sides as shown with the black lines in the picture below. Fold on all of the score lines. Trim the large box lid sides with Paper Snips as shown with the red lines in the picture below. Step 18 Step 19 Apply Sticky Strip to the large box lid sides in the locations shown with the blue lines in the picture below. Step 19 Step 20 Score the medium box lid sides as shown with the black lines in the picture below. Fold on all of the score lines. Trim the medium box lid sides with Paper Snips as shown with the red lines in the picture below. Step 20 Step 21 Apply Sticky Strip to the medium box lid sides in the locations shown with the blue lines in the picture below.

Step 21 Step 22 Score the small box lid sides as shown with the black lines in the picture below. Fold on all of the score lines. Trim the small box lid sides with Paper Snips as shown with the red lines in the picture below. Step 22 Step 23 Apply Sticky Strip to the large box lid sides in the locations shown with the blue lines in the picture below. Step 23

Step 24 Remove the liner from the Sticky Strip on the right side of the small box lid sides (as shown in Step 23) and adhere the two pieces together so they make one long strip. Punch the bottom edge (as shown in Step 23) with the Scallop Edge Border punch. Repeat this process with the medium box lid sides (as shown in Step 21) and with the large box lid sides (shown in Step 19). Step 25 Starting with the small box lid side piece and small box lid hexagon; remove the Sticky Strip liner from the first tab and adhere it onto the card stock hexagon making sure to line up the fold with the edge of a straight section of the hexagon. See the picture below (Step 25a). Moving around the hexagon remove the Sticky Strip liner one tab at a time until you have all of the 1/2 wide tabs adhered to the hexagon. See the picture below (Step 25b). Step 25a Step 25b Step 26 Apply Multipurpose Liquid Glue onto the backside of the thin cardboard small lid hexagon. See the picture below (Step 26a). Insert the hexagon into the inside of the lid, covering the tabs, and press down to adhere well. See the picture below (Step 26b). Step 26a Step 26b

Step 27 Remove the remaining piece of Sticky Strip liner from the small box lid side and adhere the ends together to complete the small box lid. Step 28 Repeat Step 25 and Step 26 with the middle box lid side/hexagon and with the large box lid side/hexagon. Step 29 Repeat Step 24 with the medium box bottom sides and large box bottom sides. Step 30 Repeat Step 25 and Step 26 with the small box bottom side/hexagon, the middle box bottom side/hexagon, and the large box bottom side/hexagon. Step 31 Use an Anywhere Glue Stick to adhere the 1-5/8 x 3-7/8 pieces of thin cardboard onto the insides of each panel of the small box bottom. See the pictures below (Step 31a and Step 31b). Step 31a Step 31b Step 32 Repeat Step 31 with the middle box bottom and the 2-7/8 x 3-7/8 pieces. Step 33 Repeat Step 31 with the large box bottom and the 4-1/8 x 3-7/8 pieces. Step 34 Place the small box lid template on the inside of the box lid. Use a Craft Knife to carefully cut out the two dark rectangles in the center. These slits will be used with the ribbon to hold the tower together when everything is finished. Note: It can be really difficult to get a clean cut on these slots, but you won t be able to see them when the gift box tower is assembled.

Step 34 Step 35 Repeat Step 34 with the medium box lid template and the medium box lid. Step 36 Repeat Step 34 with the large box lid template and the large box lid. Step 37 Place all of the box lids onto their respective box bottoms. Step 38 Mark one side of the small box with a pencil as shown with the black dots in the picture below. Step 36

Step 37 Mark one side of the medium box and one side of the large box with a pencil as shown with the black dots in the picture below. Now you can start to see the snowman take shape when you stack the boxes up. Step 37 Step 38 Use a Paper-Piercing tool to carefully pierce a hole in each of the locations that you marked with your pencil. Step 39 Add 3/16 Basic Black brads into the holes that form the mouth. Spread the prongs of the brads on the inside of the box to hold the brads in place. Step 40 Stampin Up does not sell 5/8 Basic Black brads so we will have to make our own. To do this part you will need tweezers, Basic Black embossing powder, VersaMark ink, Silver 5/8 brads and a Heat Tool. While holding the prongs of the brad with the tweezers ink up the top of the brad with VersaMark and then dip the top of the brad into the Basic Black embossing powder. Heat the powder with the Heat Tool, while the powder is still hot dip the top of the brad into the Basic Black embossing powder again, and heat it again with the Heat Tool. This will give you a completely covered and glossy black brad. Make sure to blow on the brad to cool it off and allow the embossing powder to harden before setting the brad down on you work surface. Repeat this step with four more Silver 5/8 brads. See the picture below.

Step 40 Step 41 Once cooled, insert the now black 5/8 brads into the locations that you marked with the pencil that represent the buttons and the eyes of the snowman. Spread the prongs apart on the inside of the box to hold the brads in place. Step 42 Cut a 1-1/2 x 3 piece of Pumpkin Pie card stock. Roll the card stock around your finger just to soften it up. Then roll the card stock around the end of the Paper-Piercing tool to form a tight roll. See picture (Step 42a). Loosen up the roll and roll it again using just your fingers to roll the card stock at an angle to get a cone shape. Use a little bit of Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the end of the strip to the side of the cone shape then bend the cone end of the shape a little. See picture (Step 42b). Step 42a Step 42b Step 43 Slightly flatten approximately 1/4 of the straight end of the cone. Trim up the length of the cone approximately 1/4 with Paper Snips. See the picture below.

Step 43 Step 44 Use the Craft Knife to widen the hole for the nose just large enough for the flattened end of the cone to go through. See picture (Step 44a). Insert the flattened end of the cone into the small box where you cut the slit. Separate the two flaps that you created on the end. Carefully add two Mini Glue Dots to each flap of the nose and press the flaps down on the inside of the box. See picture (Step 44b). Now the body pieces of your snowman are complete. Step 44a Step 44b For the hat: Step 45 Using the small hexagon templates from Step 2 for the box bottom use the 2-Way Glue Pen the same as before to temporarily adhere the template pieces onto Basic Black card stock. Cut out one small hexagon the same as you did for the thin cardboard in Step 2. Step 46 Using the small hexagon templates from Step 2 for the box lid use the 2-Way Glue Pen the same as before to temporarily adhere the template pieces onto Basic Black card stock. Cut out one small hexagon the same as you did for the thin cardboard in Step 2.

Step 47 Cut Basic Black card stock as follows: One piece 4-3/4 x 11 (small box sides) Two pieces 2 x 8 (small box lid sides) Step 48 Score the small box sides as shown with the black lines in the picture below. Fold on all of the score lines. Trim the small box sides with Paper Snips as shown with the red lines in the picture below. Step 48 Step 49 Apply Sticky Strip to the small box sides in the locations shown with the blue lines in the picture below. Step 49

Step 50 Score the small box lid sides as shown with the black lines in the picture below. Fold on all of the score lines. Trim the small box lid sides with Paper Snips as shown with the red lines in the picture below. Step 50 Step 51 Apply Sticky Strip to the small box lid sides in the locations shown with the blue lines in the picture below. Step 51 Step 52 Remove the liner from the Sticky Strip on the right side of the small box lid sides (as viewed in step 51) and adhere the two pieces together so they make one long strip. Punch the bottom edge (as viewed in Step 51) with the Scallop Edge Border punch. Step 53 Repeat Step 24 Step 27 on the Basic Black card stock small hexagon bottom/bottom sides; and the small hexagon lid/lid sides.

Step 54 Cut thin cardboard as follows: Six pieces 1-5/8 x 2-7/8 (small box) Cut Holly Berry Bouquet DSP as follows: Six pieces 1-5/8 x 2-7/8 (small box) Step 55 Apply Anywhere Glue Stick onto the backside of the DSP. Adhere the 1-5/8 x 2-7/8 DSP pieces onto the 1-5/8 x 2-7/8 thin cardboard pieces. Step 56 Repeat Step 31 with the Basic Black small box. See picture below. Step 57 Repeat Step 34 with the Basic Black small box lid. See picture below. Step 58 Cut four 2-1/2 x 11-1/2 strips of Basic Black card stock. Score along the 11-1/2 side every ½. Apply Sticky Strip on the last flap on one end. Fold the card stock accordion style. See picture (Step 58a). Adhere the flap with the Sticky Strip to the flap without Sticky Strip of the second piece of card stock. Repeat this step until you have a large circle of accordion folded card stock. See picture (Step 58b). Step 58a Step 58b Step 59 Heat up your hot glue gun. On a scrap of Basic Black card stock punch two circles with the 2-1/2 Circle punch. Use the 1 Circle punch to punch a circle in the center of both of the 2-1/2 circles. Lay the accordion folded card stock onto the work surface as shown below in picture (Step 59a). Apply hot glue as shown in picture (Step 59b). Place the punched circle over the hot glue and hold down until the hot glue is set. Flip the accordion circle over and repeat the hot glue and placement the punched circle.

Step 59a Step 59b Step 60 Cut three 1-1/4 x 2 pieces of Old Olive card stock. Run the card stock through the Big Shot on the Stocking Accents Originals die to cut out three holly leaves. Cut one 3/4 x 2 piece of Real Red Glimmer Paper. Run this through the Big Shot on the Stocking Accents Originals die to cut out three small circles. These will be used for holly berries. Fold the holly leaf in half length-wise. Use the Pear Pizzazz marker to color in vein lines. Adhere the holly leaves and berries together using Multipurpose Liquid Glue as shown in the picture below. Step 60 Step 61 Now we are ready to assemble all of our box pieces. Cut a 90 long piece of Bashful Blue 5/8 satin ribbon. Place the middle of the ribbon underneath the large box bottom. Thread the ribbon through the slots on top of the large box lid as shown in the picture below. Place the lid onto the box and pull the ribbon tight.

Step 61 Step 62 Repeat Step 61 with the middle and small box layers. Insert the ribbon through the accordion circle as shown in the picture below. Step 62 Step 64 Repeat Step 61 to add the final small black box and small black box lid. Tie the ribbon into a bow and trim the ribbon ends. Adhere the holly berries and leaves onto the hat with a Stampin Dimensional.

Step 64 Now your snowman is finished! I do suggest that when you are filling it with goodies that the treats be either individually wrapped or wrapped in plastic to prevent any oils from seeping into your precious boxes. Also, when carrying your filled gift boxes please carry by the bottom of the box, not the bow. These steps will preserve your wonderfully crafted gift box tower for years to come.
