Techical Explaatio for ers CSM_er_TG_E Itroductio What Is a er? A er is a device that couts the umber of objects or the umber of operatios. It is called a er because it couts the umber of ON/OFF sigals iput from a iput device, such as a switch or sesor. It is fairly simple for people to cout te or twety objects, but larger umbers make coutig icreasigly difficult. ers outperform people whe it comes to coutig accurately. er Classificatios ers are classified ito two groups accordig to whether they produce a output or ot. er Preset ers Total ers What Is a Preset er? A Preset er couts util the preset value reaches a preset value, ad the it activates a cotrol output to operate a output device. The term preset i Preset er meas that you ca set a value i advace. Typical Models Typical Models The umber of steps that someoe walks ca be automatically ad accurately couted accordig to set rules. 7CX 7EC-N What Is a Total er? A Total er does ot output a cotrol sigal. It oly displays the preset value. A Total er is ofte used whe you oly have to display a productio cout, for example. Number of Puddigs ed 7GP Today s Productio Today s Productio

Techical Explaatio for ers Structure of a Preset er Example: 7CX Digital er. Display. Settig Area Operatio of a Preset er 3. Iteral Circuits We will describe the operatio of Preset ers used i automated machiery with a puddig productio lie. ers are ofte mouted o cotrol paels so that the workers ca check the display. Puddig Productio ie Display Displays the cout value. Settig Area Eters settigs from the keys o the frot pael. The operatio of a Preset er is described from sigal iput to cotrol ad sigal output i the boxig process of the puddig productio lie. () Iput Photoelectric Sesor eater Moldig sectio No. filler No. filler er Cotrol pael 3 Iteral Circuits Date stamp Sealer The iteral circuits cout the umber of iput sigals, compare the cout to the set value, ad the output a sigal whe the two values match. Press Photoelectric Sesor (3) Output Scrap cutter Pusher A Photoelectric Sesor is a iput device that detects a object whe that object blocks light. Each time the light is blocked, the Photoelectric Sesor seds a sigal to the er. () Cotrol Preset the umber three i the er. The er the couts the umber of sigals from the Photoelectric Sesor ad seds a sigal to the Pusher (i.e., the output device) after the er receives a sigal for the third time. Whe the Pusher receives the output sigal from the er, it pushes the three puddig cotaiers ito a box. As you ca see, the er is ivolved i every step of the iput, cotrol, ad output sigal sequece.

Techical Explaatio for ers See the followig timig chart for the iput ad output sigal timig i the boxig process for puddig. (PV) Descriptio of the Timig Chart () Whe the first puddig cotaier passes by the Photoelectric Sesor, the Sesor seds a sigal to the er ad is displayed as the cout value. () Whe the ext puddig cotaier passes by the Photoelectric Sesor, is displayed. (3) Whe the third puddig cotaier passes by the Photoelectric Sesor, 3 is displayed. Because this umber is the same as the set value, the er outputs a sigal. The preset umber is called the set value (or preset value). Whe that umber is reached, a sigal is output. This is ofte referred to coutig up, but it meas the same as timer settig or time up. of 3 value Iput sigal Output sigal Displayed cout value 3 Preset umber (SV) Iput sigal timig (The cout icreases by oe with each sigal iput.) er iput status er output status Number displayed o the frot of the er (curret cout) 3

Explaatio of Terms Techical Explaatio for ers Electroic er A er which maily cosists of trasistors, ICs, microcomputers, etc. Electromagetic er A er that performs coutig by eergizig or deeergizig a built-i electromaget. Preset er A er with a cotrol output that operates whe the er couts to a set value. value Cotrol Output CPU Memory Total er A er which idicates the total value of the coutig iputs ad is ot provided with a cotrol output. Additio (Up/Icremetig) er A er havig a add iput ad thus capable of coutig i a ascedig order. iput value Subtractio (Dow/Decremetig) er A er with a subtract iput ad thus capable of coutig i descedig order. iput value ON 3 4 5 3 4 5 Up/Dow er A er with the capability of coutig i a ascedig or descedig order, depedig o the up-dow iputs. Also called a reversible er. iput Additio Subtractio value There are several iput modes for additio or subtractio. Maximum ig Speed The maximum coutig speed at which the display ad output sectio of the er operates accurately without miscoutig. The maximum coutig speed is expressed i uits of couts per secod (cps). ON/OFF Ratio The ratio of the ON sigal time of a give iput sigal to the OFF sigal time of the same iput sigal. The maximum coutig speed of each er is determied by coutig a iput sigal with a ON/OFF ratio of :. ON iput sigal OFF ON time OFF time Operatig Mode The cotrol output patters ad display patters that appear whe a Preset er couts to the set value. Examples: Mode N Mode C value display Cotrol output value display Cotrol output Note: Refer to the datasheets for idividual products for iformatio o operatio i other modes. value display: eld Cotrol output: eld value display: Istataeous reset Cotrol output: oe shot 4

Techical Explaatio for ers Stage Number of preset values that correspod with the umber of cotrol outputs. Example: Two-stage er Set Set value Cotrol output Cotrol output Number of Digits The maximum umber of coutable digits. Display Method The type of elemet used to display the coutig results. ED: ight emittig diode CD: iquid crystal display Note: Electromagetic ers display results usig a revolvig mechaism with prited characters. Exterally Supplied Power Power that is supplied from the er to sesors that are used for coutig or resettig. (Also called sesor power.) Reset To restore the coutig, display ad output sectios of the er, to their iitial states. Power Reset To reset the er by turig OFF the power supply voltage. Exteral Reset To reset the er by applyig a specific sigal to the reset iput sigal termial. Auto Reset To reset the er automatically with a sigal geerated from iside the er. Maual Reset To mechaically reset the er by maual meas. Electromagetic Reset To electromagetically reset the er by applyig a reset sigal. ig: Operatio Method Refer to the followig timig charts for the iput modes of icremetal, decremetig, ad up/dow (or reversible) ers. Time ers are also called Total Time Meters or our Meters. ours is ot the oly uit available, ad time ca be displayed i miutes, secods, or i some cases eve days. A Time er is ot a Timer. You set a specific time with a Timer ad a electrical sigal is output whe that time has elapsed. With a Time er, you do ot set a time. It simply totals the time ad displays that total. If you were to defie the two i terms of Timers, the a Timer would be a Preset Timer ad a Timer er would be a Total Timer. The Time er, however, has historically bee classified as a er. 6
