From the 2165-77 Blue Vines, cut: (1) 8⅞" strip. Recut into (2) 8⅞" x 8⅞" squares. From the 2166-33 Brown Stripe, cut: (4) lengthwise strips, 6" wide x length of fabric, with a printed rose motif centered in each cut strip. From the 2167-99 Black Dot, cut: (2) 6⅜" strips. Recut into (8) 6⅜" x 6⅜" and (4) 6" x 6" squares. (5) 2½" strips. (7) 2¼" strips for the binding. From the 2168-44, Cream, cut: (1) 16" strip. Recut into (1) 16" x 16" square. From the 2168-88, Red, cut: (1) 11⅞" strip. Recut into (2) 11⅞" x 11⅞" and (2) 8⅞" x 8⅞" squares. (1) 6" strip. Recut into (4) 6" x 6" squares. Appliqué 1. Enlarge the key block provided 200% to prepare templates, freezer paper, or fusible web for your preferred method of appliqué. 2. Using the quilt pictured on the cover and the enlarged key block as guides, arrange a full set of appliqué motifs onto the right side of (1) 24½" white tonal background square, making sure the arrangement is centered on the square in both directions. Appliqué the motifs to the square using the method of your choice. Sewing All seams are sewn using 1/4" seam allowance with pieces held right sides together and raw edges even. 3. Cut each 11⅞" red tonal triangle in half on the diagonal to yield a total of (4) triangles. Referring to the diagrams in the next column, stitch two of the red tonal triangles to opposite sides of the 16" appliqué square, matching center points. Repeat this procedure to add red tonal triangles to the two remaining sides of the square to complete the center quilt block. The block should measure 22½" from raw edge to raw edge in both directions. STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 2 of 5
STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 3 of 5 4. Referring to the diagram below, draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of a 6⅜" blue ditsy square. Right sides together, layer the marked square with a 6⅜" black dot square. Sew 1/4" away on both sides of the marked line. Cut on the marked line to yield (2) half-square triangle units as shown. Repeat this procedure to make a total of (16) identical half-square triangle units measuring 6" from raw edge to raw edge in both directions. 5. Referring to the diagram below, arrange (4) of the blue ditsy/black dot half-square triangle units from step 6, as shown. Stitch the units together, side by side, noting orientation of each triangle. Repeat to make a total of (4) units. Referring to the quilt pictured on the cover, stitch (2) of these pieced borders to the left and right sides of the quilt top, noting orientation. remaining trimmed lengths. Sew these pieced borders to the top and bottom. 8. Trim the selvages from the 2½" black dot strips. Sew the strips together, end to end, to make a long 2½" strip. From this long strip, cut (2) 48½" and (2) 44½" lengths (if your measurements are different, cut to fit your quilt top). Stitch the shorter lengths to the left and right sides of the quilt top. Sew the longer lengths to the top and bottom. 9. Trim each 8½" mixed patchwork strip to 48½" long (if your measurements are different, cut to fit your quilt top). Stitch (2) of the trimmed lengths to the left and right sides of the quilt top. 10. Referring to the diagram below, draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of a 8⅞" blue vines square. Right sides together, layer the marked square with an 8⅞" red tonal square. Sew 1/4" away on both sides of the marked line. Cut on the marked line to yield (2) half-square triangle units as shown. Repeat this procedure to make a total of (4) identical half-square triangle units measuring 8½" from raw edge to raw edge in both directions. 6. Again using the quilt pictured on the cover as a guide, stitch 6" black dot squares to both ends of each remaining blue ditsy/black dot unit from step 7. Stitch these pieced borders to the top and bottom of the quilt top, again noting orientation. 7. Trim each of the (4) brown stripe strips to 33½" (if your measurements are different, cut to fit your quilt top). Stitch (2) of these lengths to the left and right sides of the quilt top. Stitch 6" red tonal squares to both ends of each of the 11. Stitch half-square triangle units from step 10 to both ends of the two remaining 8½" mixed patchwork strips from step 9, noting orientation. Sew these pieced borders to the top and bottom to complete the quilt top. 12. Layer the completed quilt top with batting and backing and quilt as desired. Bind the finished quilt using the 2¼" black dot strips.
