1 Quilt by Deb Mosa Finished Quilt Approximately: 52" x 52" - Finished Block Size: 9" x 9" Cupcake Cuties fabrics by Exclusively Quilters - Style #3893 Fabric Requirements: Based on 44" wide fabric 7/8 yard pink sprinkles (# ) 1-1/2 yards brown sprinkles (# ) 2/3 yard white sprinkles (# ) 1/2 yard yellow sprinkles (# ) 1/2 yard cupcake print (# ) 1-1/2 yards border stripe (# ) 3-5/8 yards fabric for backing (# suggested) 60" x 60" quilt batting template plastic An added 1/8 to 1/2 yard is added to all yardages to account for shrinkage, straightening, cutting errors and prints that may require special cutting to get the best results. You should protect your investment in time and fabric by making sample blocks before cutting into your fabric because Exclusively Quilters will take no responsibility for replacing fabrics. Shops who wish to kit this design are responsible for figuring yardage for their kits if they wish to reduce yardages. Cutting Directions: All measurements based on a 1/4" seam allowance. From the pink sprinkles fabric: Cut two 7-1/4" x 44" strips, recut into eight 7-1/4" x 9-1/2" rectangles Cut one 5-3/4" x 44" strip, recut into four 5-3/4" squares** From the brown sprinkles fabric: Cut one 5-3/4" x 44" strip, recut into two 5-3/4" squares** Cut two 5" x 44" strips, recut into sixteen 5" squares Cut one 3-1/8" x 44" strip, recut into eight 3-1/8" squares* Cut six 2-1/2" x 44" strips for binding Cut six 1-1/2" x 44" strips for border From the white sprinkles fabric: Cut two 3-1/2" x 44" strips, recut into eight 3-1/2" x 9-1/2" rectangles Cut four 2" x 44" strips for border From the yellow sprinkles fabric: Cut three 3" x 44" strips From the cupcake print fabric: Cut two 5-3/4" x 44" strips, recut into eight 5-3/4" x 9-1/2" rectangles From the border stripe fabric: Fussy cut four 5-1/2" x 54" strips the length of fabric (parallel to selvage) Cut squares as indicated: * ** Heart Blocks: 1. Draw a diagonal line across the wrong side of the 5" brown sprinkles squares. 2. Lay marked square right sides together on the 7-1/4" x 9-1/2" pink sprinkles rectangles as shown. Stitch along the marked line. Trim seam allowance to 1/4". Press triangle out. Repeat on the other side. 3. Lay out two pink and one brown 5-3/4" quarter-square triangles and two 3-1/8" brown half-square triangles as shown. Stitch the pieces together into a row. 4. Sew the heart top and bottom sections together. Make a total of eight heart blocks.

2 Page 2 Cupcake Blocks: 1. Trim each of the 5-3/4" x 9-1/2" cupcake print rectangles with the Cup. Trim each of the 3-1/2" x 9-1/2" white sprinkles rectangles with the Frosting. 9. Sew a yellow sprinkles Bottom Triangle and reverse Bottom Triangle to sides of each of the cupcake base pieces. 2. Cut eight Top Triangle templates from 3" yellow sprinkle strips. Also cut eight REVERSE Top Triangle templates. 10. Sew each frosting section on top of the cup sections completing eight Cupcake Blocks. 3. Cut eight Bottom Triangle templates from 3" yellow sprinkle strips. Also cut eight REVERSE Bottom Triangle templates. 4. From remaining pink sprinkles yardage, cut eight Cherry. 5. From remaining yellow sprinkles yardage, cut eight Side and eight REVERSE Side. 6. Sew a yellow side and reverse yellow side to each of the pink cherry pieces. 7. Stitch cherry unit on top of each frosting section. 8. Sew the yellow sprinkle Top Triangle and reverse Top Triangles to each side of the frosting/cherry sections. Assembly: 1. Lay out blocks in four horizontal rows of four blocks each, alternating the heart and cupcake blocks. Sew blocks into rows. Sew rows together. 2. Stitch 2" white sprinkles strips to right and left sides of quilt center. Press and trim excess from these and all successive border additions. Add 2" white sprinkles to top and bottom of quilt center. 3. Add border stripe in the same manner, referring to the cupcake orientation. 4. Cut two 1-1/2" x 44" brown sprinkles strips each into two equal lengths. Stitch a half-length strip end-to-end with a full-length strip. Add borders to right and left sides then to top and bottom of quilt.

3 Finishing: 1. Cut backing into two equal lengths. Sew the two lengths together along selvage edges. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt or tie as desired. 2. Prepare binding from six 2-1/2" x 44" brown sprinkles strips. Sew strips together into one long binding strip. Press strip in half lengthwise. 3. Carefully trim backing and batting even with quilt top. 4. Leaving an 8" tail of binding, sew binding to top of quilt through all layers matching all raw edges. Miter corners. Stop approximately 12" from where you started. Lay both loose ends of binding flat along quilt edge. Where these two loose ends meet, fold them back on themselves and press to form a crease. Using this crease as your stitching line, sew the two open ends of the binding together right sides together. Trim seam to 1/4" and press open. Finish sewing binding to quilt. 5. Turn binding to back of quilt and blind stitch in place. Cupcake Cuties Page 3
