Pen Holder Instruction Sheet I don t know about you, but I love having pretty containers on my desk or in my creative space. They brighten up my rather dull workstation at office, and inspire me when I m cardmaking or scrapbooking at home. In this tutorial, we will make a super cute pen holder using a dollar store pen cup, some cardstock and a little bling. It is relatively easy to make all the tools and techniques used are used regularly in card making. If you can make a card, you can make this pretty pen holder in about an hour! Steps Step 1: Measure the height of your pen cup Mine was 3 5/8 inches high Step 2: Cut background cardstock You will want to cut your background cardstock lengthwise (i.e. cut parallel to the 11 inch edge) to the height of your cup. I cut mine to 11 x 8 5/8. Step 3: Adhere sticky strip to background cardstock. Adhere two strips of sticky strip as close as possible to the short edges of the background cardstock, and two strips in between. Hint: Make sure you measure to the top of the bottom rim you don t want to cover the rim with your cardstock Check cut background paper against your cup to make sure it is the right height. It should fit between the upper and lower rim of your cup. Trim further if necessary. Step 4: Adhere background to can Peel the backing off of the stickystrip, and carefully wrap background cardstock around can. Hint: Try to keep the bottom edge of your cardstock even with the top edge of the bottom rim. Created by Peony Paper Crafts Page 3 of 6
Step 5: Punch Ribbon Strips Using your 11 x 1 ½ cardstock pieces, punch 5 strips of cardstock ribbon. Step 6: Apply Adhesive to Punched Ribbon Strips Apply two pieces of sticky strip to ends of punched ribbon, and snail adhesive in between. Hint: When moving your cardstock in the ribbon punch, remember to line up your punched ribbon with the silver image printed on the punch. Hint: Test Step 7 without adhesive before applying Sticky Strip or Snail. Step 7: Adhere Punched Ribbon to Cup Carefully wrap punched ribbon around your cup, ensuring that the first piece of sticky strip overlaps both ends of the seam in your background cardstock. The ends of your ribbon strip should overlap. Hint: Adhere the middle ribbon strip first; this makes it easier to space the other ribbon strips. Created by Peony Paper Crafts Page 4 of 6
Step 8: Adhere all punched ribbon Step 9: Secure ribbon strips with brads With your paper piercing tool, carefully punch a hole through the end of each ribbon strip and through the holes in the mesh of the cup. Slide a brad into the hole and reach inside the cup to secure it by spreading the tines. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for each strip of punched ribbon Hint: When you make the hole, wiggle the paper piercing tool to enlarge the hole as much as possible before pulling it out. Step 10: Die cut butterflies Using instructions on the Sizzix multi-purpose platform, die cut butterflies from each piece of 2 ½ x 2 ¾ cardstock. Step 11a: Adhere glitter to butterflies With 2 in 1 glue pen, trace the parts of the butterflies you would like to adhere glitter to. Step 11b: Adhere Glitter to Butterflies Pour glitter over butterflies, and tap to remove excess. Created by Peony Paper Crafts Page 5 of 6
Step 12: Adhere butterflies to pen cup Using glue dots or Stampin Dimensionals adhere butterflies to your cup. Decorate butterflies with rhinestones or pearls. Hint: It is easiest to position glue dots on a butterfly by pressing the butterfly onto the glue dot while it is still on the roll. Hint: Cut Stampin Dimensionals in half to adhere smaller butterflies. Finished Product Created by Peony Paper Crafts Page 6 of 6
