Williamsburg Spinners and Weavers Minutes January 15, 2018 James City County Recreation Center Meeting was called to order by Linda at 10AM. 2 visitors today - Brian Kross sitting in and new old member Jeff Cleveland, a bead weaver. Minutes were accepted as written for December. Treasurer: Kathy - $ 3217.97 in the bank Membership: Sandi - she will update the roster and send it out soon. MAFA: Dave - proposals for instructors are being taken now. Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated. Sunshine: - We heard from Marsha that her Mother is very sick. We are so sorry to hear this, and will be keeping her and her family in our prayers. The Super Bash is being held today through Wednesday at Powhatan Plantation. This is courtesy of Sandi. Thank you for your generosity. A fun time will be had plus we will work on forthcoming programs and demos. A separate list of programs will be sent to you in the future. Many ideas were given and discussed. In honor of Marsha s Mother, the challenge this year will be to make something out of plarn. The monthly bash sign-up sheet is going around. Please host if you can. Also, the snack sheet is looking for volunteers. The February program will be given by Cindy F on making felt name tags. This should help us remember names of our members much easier. Ingrid and Janet will assist. A list of supplies will be coming soon. March program will be a demonstration of pine needle basket weaving with Maggie Pruett. Goodie s felted sunset picture is hanging in the Chamber of Commerce building. Wonderful! The library art show will be in September/October for our work. Our program for today was by Cindy showing us beading stitches on a scarf fringe. She also brought many of her beautiful examples of beaded items for us to see.

(plastic bag strips). Recycling at it s best. Poker drawing study group February Program: Name Tags Our group has grown so much, and it would be great not to have to say Now tell me your name again. To fix that we re going to make wool or felt name tags at the February meeting. Ingrid and Cindy will bring #5 embroidery cotton, embroidery floss and a few colors of felt as well as a couple of cookie cutters for fun shapes. Cindy will provide some poly fiberfill for those needing a bit of puff. Think about what shape you d like to make and bring colors of wool or felt or bling that you may need for your tag. Janet, Ingrid and Cindy will help everyone get going on a cute cookie cutter style name tag, but if you want to make something else, feel free! Maybe you need a needle felted name tag, or one with beads! These are fun to do; you may not be able to stop with just one! We ll have some scissors, needles and marking pens/pencils for folks to use, but it would help if you could bring the following: Scissors for cutting felt Thread scissors Marking pencil/pens for felt Embroidery needle for stitching thru felt (embroidery needle or chenille needle) Any extra bling you may need - maybe needle felting supplies, or permanent markers if you don t want to do embroidery, or glitter and fabric glue... Fun colors of wool felt if you don t want to use what s in Cindy s stash...
