1 1. Technical preamble for specifications 1.1 General All components of laboratory fittings must be compliant with detailed specified requirements applicable within the laboratory in question. The fitted laboratory must be supplied as one complete consignment and must be installed ready to use at the site of operation. All necessary materials for the installation, for example sealants and connectors are supplied by the contractor and do not have to be explicitly detailed in the order documentation. Laboratory furniture, fume cupboards, media supply systems, safety cabinets and worktops must be manufactured within the EU. The manufacturer must be certified to DIN/EN 9001 (Quality Management) and DIN/EN (Environmental Management). 1.2 Regulations and Standards Laboratories have to be designed and constructed in accordance with all applicable DIN-standards, technical standards, regulations issued by the DVGW and all locally applicable legislation as well as regulations issued by professional bodies and associations. The contractor must ensure that he is familiar with all these regulations and standards. 2 1.3 System design/ materials System design It must be possible to combine all system components, for example furniture, media supply systems, fume cupboards, cabinets for the storage of acid and base as well as fire resistant storage cabinets, with each other and must follow a standardised colour scheme. Furniture, media supply systems, fume cupboards and safety cabinets: Arctic White NCS S 0505 R80B. Worktops: Baltic Blue NCS S 2030 R70B (with the exception of stainless steel). Plug sockets and fittings: Anthracite NCS S 8500 N Materials Cabinets, fume cupboards and media supply systems are described in detail within the specifications. Steel panels used for the manufacture must be (unless otherwise stipulated) of the following quality: steel panels, electro galvanised, phosphatised and coated with solvent free polyurethane. Quality and adhesion of these coatings must be regularly controlled by means of cross cut tests according to DIN and indentation test according ISO The steel used must be recyclable Module size The system must be based on the following raster values: Width: basic grid 300 mm (individual cabinets also 450 mm) Table depth including media supply systems: 600, 750, 900 mm Standing work height: 900 mm Sitting work height: 750 mm Cleaning The laboratory is cleaned inside and out prior to commissioning. 1.4 Technical interfaces The contractor must familiarise himself prior to the submission of tender documents with the structural conditions on site. Components for industrial gases, water and power must be prepared at the manufacturer s works, including pipe work / cabling. Pipe work for pure gases is installed entirely on site Performance limitation - installation of plumbing and media Works include supply, installation and ready-to use commissioning of media supply systems for gases, water, waste water and other liquid media. The scope of work is limited and ends at the commissioning point on site (cut off valve). Sanitary installations must comply with the following regulations: DIN 1968, DIN 1988, DIN 18381, DIN 3384, DIN 1786, DIN 2856, and DIN DVGW-Worksheet: G 621, GW 2, GW 392, VBG 50, DVGW-TRGI Worksheet G Performance limitation - electrical installation Works include supply, installation and ready to use commissioning of electrical systems leading to the commissioning point on site (all supply cables with 6 m. free length). Electrical works must comply with DIN part 100 and VDE 0789 part 100. The applicable VDE- and DINregulations apply Performance limitation - ventilation installation Works include supply, assembly and installation of ventilation ducts and channels, i.e. for fume cupboards and extracted air cabinets up to the upper edge of the air vent. version: page 2 of 29

3 1.5 Maintenance Components, which by law must undergo regular service and maintenance, for example fume cupboards, safety cabinets for the storage of hazardous substances and gas cylinder cabinets, are to be serviced annually by the supplier. In this case, the supplier provides a guarantee for all serviced products for a period of at least 5 years by means of a maintenance and service contract for this period. 1.6 Drawings The tender papers must be accompanied by the following plans: - Floor plan drawings (plan, scale 1:50) - Elevation drawings (Front view, scale 1:20) - Fitting / furniture drawings (isometric views) Following successful tender, the following plans must be submitted: - Front views and isometric illustrations of positions with parts lists as part of the drawing - Installation and assembly plans 1.7 Test certificates Test certificates for fume cupboards must be submitted together with the tender documents; offers without these documents may be excluded from the tender process. 1.8 Certificates The tender documentation must be submitted together with certificates for DIN EN ISO 9001DIN EN ISO and BS OHSAS Fume cupboards 2.1 Performance data according to DIN EN Fume cupboards are to be offered in accordance with DIN EN part 1-3. At an air flow volume of max. 400 m 3 /h per running metre front length without any adaptive air addition and without air channelling walls at the back, the results for trace gases must be below the maximum trace gas values as recommended by BG-Chemie. Basis for this is the containment test in the outer measuring level as well as robustness test (see also DIN EN ). Corresponding test certificates must be submitted by the supplier. High performance fume cupboards must additionally be tested to DIN T2 and radionuclide fume cupboards to DIN Fume cupboards are, as far as this is possible considering site restraints, delivered with fully assembled fume cupboard tops. Internal coverings can be assembled and installed on site. 2.2 Fume cupboards must be offered in the following variants from the system programme: Bench mounted fume cupboard for general use (TA-900) - Widths: 1200, 1500, 1800, 2000, 2100 mm - Fume cupboard height: 2550 mm - Usable space height: 1500 mm - Fume cupboard connection height : 2600 mm - Bench height: 900 mm - Fume cupboard depth: 900 mm - Useable space depth : 800 mm Design / construction version: page 3 of 29

Stainless steel worktop with raised edges, optional lined with 20 mm lead. 2.3 Technical details Construction Self-supporting construction from zinc coated steel panels, electro galvanised, phosphatised and coated with solvent free polyurethane. Primary colour: Arctic White NCS S 0505 R80B, secondary colour: Anthracite NCS S 8500 N Liquid and gas media Operating elements for liquid and gas media, marked according to DIN EN are located in exchangeable cassettes within the right or left fume cupboard column. The corresponding outlets as well as the hopper-bottomed tank are located within the interior of the fume cupboard and must be accessible without having to bend into the cupboard. Operating elements for standpipes and pure gas fittings are located within the fume cupboard frame under the worktop Electrical components Electrical connection 400/230 V AC max. Fuse with integral fuse elements 35 A supplied by the contractor, without integral fuse elements 16 A supplied by the contractor. Terminals are easily accessible behind the front panel. Fuses and FI-safety switch visible behind clear transparent cover. Plug sockets 230 V/16 A according to specification available in the frame underneath the worktop, in the fume cupboard columns to the side or within the interior of the fume cupboard, operated from the outside. Plug sockets in the interior of the fume cupboard equipped with interval timer. Control unit for interval timer placed in the fume cupboard column. Plug sockets 380 V/16 A within the fume cupboard columns to the side of the cupboard. All plug sockets comply with safety class IP Lighting Even lighting (> 500 Lux) of the interior by means of separately operated interior lights Front sash Front sashes are easily and seamlessly adjustable using coated stainless steel cords. They are held in any position and are secured against falling, for example due to rope failure. The rope guides at the front are easily accessible from the front, to ease service work. Variant A: Front sash, one-piece (for TA-900; TA-900, low ceiling room; AA-900; RA-900): Epoxy resin coated aluminium frame with inlet profile and 2 to 4 horizontally adjustable laminated safety glass panels (6 mm), max. Width 465 mm, which glide over each other in two guide rails, to version: page 5 of 29

6 provide further protection. Can also be specified with a closed pane constructed from laminated safety glass or polycarbonate. Version B: Front sash, two-part (for TA-900; TA-900, low room, TA-500, BA): Epoxy resin coated aluminium frame, upper frame with solid pane of laminated safety glass or polycarbonate. Lower frame with inlet profile and 2 to 4 horizontally adjustable laminated safety glass panels (6 mm), max. Width 465 mm, which glide over each other in two guide rails, to provide further protection. Can also be specified with a closed pane constructed from laminated safety glass or polycarbonate Electronic Electronic components of fume cupboards like front sash controller, air control or interval timer for plug sockets operable by a central positioned touchpad Front sash controller All front sashes (not BA) are supplied with motor driven front sash controller. Operable by touchpad. Opening position of front sash infinitely adjustable within working area. Alternatively operated by an additional foot switch. It must be possible, to operate motor assisted opening and closing by means of gentle lifting or pressing of the sash. During manual operation, for example in emergencies, the motor must be disengaged automatically from the front sash, so that it is possible to conduct manual operation. The closure speed of the front sash must be at least 0.15 m/s Opening height limiter Front sash controller with eclectically operated front sash limiter, which limits the opening height of the front sash to mm without hard stops. It must be possible, to override these height limits, for example to equip the fume cupboard interior Frame under the worktop (TA-900; TA-900, low ceiling room; AA-900; RA-900) The frame under the worktop must be equipped with 4 plug sockets 230 V/16 A and one drawer. If taps for pure gases or standpipes for water are required on the worktop, the drawer can be omitted Extracted air / waste air monitoring Air from fume cupboards is extracted through an extraction connector (material: PP fire retardant, diameter according to specification DN 200, DN 250, DN 315). The extracted air flow volume is calculated by means of an electronic air flow control unit with clear LC-display. Additional light emitting diodes show the operational state of the fume cupboard. If the necessary extracted air flow volume is not reached, optical and audible alarms are activated in accordance with DIN EN The generator powered alarm signal is also activated during power cuts. The extracted air monitor is equipped with two relay switches Remote Diagnostics Operating parameters of fume cupboard exportable and readable by user via USB interface. Operating data controllable and if necessary - revisable by manufacturer. Update importable to fume cupboard electronic by user Maintenance To facilitate maintenance work, front sash cords and counter weights must be located in a way that they are easily accessible at the front of the fume cupboard column. Power supply, electronic components and extracted air control must be easily accessible for the service technicians by means of opening of the front panel. 2.4 Extracted air control Volume flow control version: page 6 of 29

8 Possibility to connect a 4 line display to show: - Volume flow values for desired and existing values - Inlet speed values as desired and as existing - Operational state - Error messages Monitoring Integrated monitoring of trouble-free ventilation functions by means of measuring and monitoring of inlet speed, flow direction and volume flow. Visual and audible alarm signals when errors occur. The audible signal will cut off automatically after a set period. Power cut messages via generator at the operator panel by means of flashing LED Operator terminal Operator terminal suitable for use with the mandatory laboratory extraction controller. Equipped with 4 metre cable for connection to the laboratory extraction controller. Optical signal for fault-free ventilation function of the fume cupboard. Visual and audible error message at the operator terminal. The audible signal will cut off automatically after a set period. It is possible to set up increased volume flow by using a switch. This request is cancelled by using the request switch again or alternatively after a set period of time. The operator is alerted to any power cut through a generator powered (maintenance free) signal at the control panel by means of flashing LED. Hardware problems are shown by means of flashing LED alarms. Service connector to connect a service laptop. 2.5 Exhaust air scrubber Absorptions equipment constructed from PP, to absorb mainly acid containing laboratory exhaust air. Design/ construction The scrubber contains a bubble plate reaction chamber for vertical through-flow. The overall base area is used to serve as liquid distribution floor. The scrubbing liquid is pumped through the circle by a quietly operating pp-immersion pump. Evaporated water and/or water that has to be replaced is replaced automatically using a level triggered electro-magnetic valve. The reaction chamber is followed by a droplet catcher with the following capacity: 99.9% up to a droplet size of c. 25 Å. Required droplet catching values Hydrochloric acid: to 94.0 % Hydrofluoric acid: to 96.0 % Nitric acid: to 92.1 % Sulphuric acid: to 96.0 % Perchloric acid: to 94.0 % Ammonia: to 81.5 % The intended scrubbing agent is water. In order to avoid increased salinity of the scrubbing agent, the agent is disposed of into the waste water system as soon as a pre-set value has been reached. If required in the client s specifications, it is also possible to use alkaline lye as scrubbing agent. The saturation level of the scrubbing liquid is in this case continually monitored by a ph-sensor. Operation / maintenance Operation and maintenance of the equipment is conducted via front access. Operation and error messages are shown on a text display. All connections, including electrical connections are also located at the front. version: page 8 of 29

Cabinets 3.1 Material The material for cabinet carcasses, shelves, doors and drawer fronts is coated steel with the following specifications: steel panels, electro galvanised, phosphatised and coated with solvent free polyurethane. 24 7 Media supply systems 7.1 Material Service columns, service blocks, service walls and service booms are constructed from coated steel with the following specification: steel panel, electro galvanised, phosphatised and coated with solvent free polyurethane. Quality and adhesion of these coatings must be checked by means of cross cut tests according to DIN and cupping according to DIN Colour All steel panel parts in Arctic White NCS S 0505 R Service cells - Width: 900, 1200, 1500, 1800 mm - Height: 1320, 1620, 1920 mm - Depth of basic cells: 150 mm Use Service cells are suitable for the supply of wall or peninsular benches with gases, liquids and power. Service cells can be placed as separate units behind work benches. If service cells are used for the supply of workbenches, the media outlets, for example fittings and power sockets are located ergonomically at the bench side. Design Service cells consist out of two service columns, which are connected by shelving and splash guard. The continuous steel table bridge at table height can contain, according to specification, a hopper bottomed outlet constructed from polypropylene with drain DN 40; colour: Arctic White NCS S 0505 R80B. The back of the service cell remains open (wall work benches) or can be covered with splash backs from single pane safety glass (twin work benches, peninsular), in a way that they remain optically transparent. Media outlets are located in the service columns. Media feed All pipes and ducts necessary to supply the media run vertically within the service column or the service block to the power points or outlets concerned. Horizontal feeds run between the service columns/ blocks on anchoring rails under the bench top Shelving Shelves (150 or 300 mm depth) are constructed from a coated steel tray with chemically resistant glass inlay with a load capacity of 15 Kg (area load) the glass inlays are fixed to avoid movement.
