1 Editing Your Design Roof Tab The Roof tab allows you to edit the design of your roof. In here you can change the ridges, rafters, add roof vents, box gutters, and edit other components of the roof. Rapid Apply Mode UDesign has a feature called Rapid Apply which adds items with a click of the mouse. This applies to most items in the roof tab and instructions are provided in the yellow strip below the ribbon bar that appears when a Rapid Apply option is selected.

2 Moving the Ridge and rafters Ridges and rafters can be moved manually using the left mouse button. Click once, and holding down the left mouse button, move from left to right, up or down. Altering the Span, Projection and Ridge Length In most cases, you are able to alter the span, projection and ridge length by double clicking on the dimension given for the chosen component.

3 Design/Roof Section Tie Bars This option allows you to add structural tie bars to the design where required. Jack/Splay Each hipped sections of a roof can be made to jack or splay using this tool. Centralise This allows you to centralise the ridge of a roof if it has become misaligned (this could be due to dragging the ridge accidentally, adding a Box Gutter, etc). Freehand Editor This will open your current design in the Bespoke/Freehand Editor. Slope Section

4 Cut-Outs If you require sections of the conservatory to be cut into (for adapting to a house wall, chimney, etc), this tool will allow you to input the specifications of the cut-out. Pitch This option allows you to change the pitch (which can also be done by double-clicking on a panel of a slope). BG / Wall If a full or partial box gutter is required on your design, this tool will allow you to add the dimensions of the box gutter that you need. It also allows you to change a wall to a house wall of gable/fire wall with one click. Frame Offs This tool will offset the starter bar of a slope that you have selected (eg. this can be used if you require a service panel for pipework that will cut through the conservatory roof). Edit Rafters As the name suggests, this editor allows you to alter the rafter spacing, equalise rafters, jack/splay rafters at hips and set the number of divisions within a slope. Gable End When designing a conservatory with a gabled section, this tool gives you options to change the gable design (mullion, sunburst, firring, raked head, etc), create a custom gable design or even add a gable support beam. Glazing This option houses all of the

5 available roof glazing options that are selectable for your conservatory. Rafters Section Divisions You can set the number of divisions within a slope using this option. It also has some pre-defined division sets for you to choose from. Align Bars Rafters can be aligned in a number of ways. This tool allows you to align one rafter, align across a ridge, align across a left/right hip or align the rafters over your frames. Equalise Bars Exactly as stated, this tool equalises the rafters within the chosen slope. Bar Weight You can upgrade roof bar weights individually using this tool. It also has an upgrade weight option which will increase the chosen bar s weight to the next available.

6 Roof Panels Section Vents This tool allows you to add a roof vent to a slope/panel of a conservatory. There is also an option to input the specifications of the vent or remove it altogether. Split Panel As the name states, this tool allows you to split a glazing panel into 2 equal sections (vertical). Vented This tool gives the option to have ventilated supports at either the top or bottom of a roof panel. Muntins If your roof glazing panels are too long, muntins can be added to split the panel into smaller pieces. You also have the option to set the number of divisions that you want in a panel, and the ability to copy/remove the muntins across the whole roof.

7 View Section Zoom This tool speaks for itself. It allows you to zoom in/out of the roof plan. 100% This will set the view to 100% scale. View Options A list of options is available from this tool to toggle on/off hidden data such as rafter names, rafter dimensions, rafter names, etc. Annotate Custom annotations can be added (custom dimensions, notes, labels) as well as changing the properties for them (font, line thickness, etc). 9 Bespoke Design Basics 2. Creating your Roof Shape Overview Once you have drawn in the walls, creating the roof shape is very simple. It is simply a case of visualising the roof shape that you wish to create. Points should then be added only at the starts and ends of any ridges or wallplates. You can see in the simple square example below, how different roof shapes can be created by adding points in the appropriate positions.

10 Box Gutters will automatically be inserted where the base a of slope meets a house wall.

11 More complex designs may have more than two points just add them in where necessary. Creating the Roof Shape 1. In the Points/ Spiders tab, click the where you would like to add points. If you add a point incorrectly in error, click on that point to select it, then either use your Delete key on the keyboard or click Remove Spider

12 2. Once you have the points all now plotted in as desired, click into the Ridges/Wallplates tab. Click and drag from one point to the next to create the ridges and wallplates. Release the mouse button, whilst hovering over the end point (Point 2 in the example below). 3. Once you ve joined up all the points, click into the Hips/Valleys tab to check the roof shape. The software will generally create these all correctly, unless there are points very close together, in which case, you may need to correct

13 the points this is covered in the next article If your roof shape is correct, you can click Next through all the remaining tabs. Your drawing with then be created in 3D, ready to edit the frames and add final touches to the roof, such as tie-bars and roof vents.

14 Bespoke Design Basics 1. Adding in your walls Overview The first step to creating a bespoke design is plotting in your walls. This is done by starting with a rear house wall and using the various arrow icons to create a continuous loop. Draw in all your walls using the appropriate direction arrows (outlined in blue in the image below) then use one of the special JOIN arrows (outlined in purple in the image below) to create the final wall. Each time you add a wall, a window appears where you can specify the length, the type of wall (dwarf wall, house wall, firewall or creasing tile wall) and also the internal angle from the previous wall. If the wall is a house wall, you can add a soffit width if necessary. You can specify the wall type at the point of entering it s length, or you can double- click on the wall after it s creation, to access it s properties and change if necessary.

15 If you are adding a Victorian bay to the design, you can do so using the button, rather than drawing each of the 3 or 5 walls individually and having to work out each facet length. This also allows you to specify a wider front facet if necessary. The two join arrows function in different manners, The leftmost will draw back to the house wall at whatever length/angle is required, whereas the right-most will draw back to the house wall at 90 degrees, extending or reducing the house wall

16 if necessary. This is demonstrated below. Two key points to remember during drawing in walls are:

17 Work around the design in an anti-clockwise direction Use the JOIN to house wall arrows when finishing your design, instead of the regular direction arrows, as this tells the program that you are completing the loop.
