As you stand before it, the quality of the materials and the level of craft become immediately apparent: Shelves and drawers of solid hardwood, dovetail joint construction, solid steel structure. But what's less obvious is also what truly distinguishes this system: its versatility. A broad selection of components is available in a variety of sizes. All components fasten securely to the standards and may be positioned or adjusted at two inch intervals. The as4 can be reconfigured, added to, and taken with you when you move. Beyond it's expected application as shelving and storage, it's been used as home office, audio/visual center, retail fixtures, commercial workstations, kitchens, closet/dressing room fixtures, server racks and wet bar. Another unique level of versatility is evident in the ease with which this system can be customized. Custom sizes are available for any component, as are materials and finishes outside of what is stocked. Beyond that, custom components such as lighting, beds and seating can be made to suit any application or need. This brochure will serve as an introduction to the world of possibilities afforded by the as4 modular furniture system. To explore this world further, use our online design tool, the as4 builder. With the builder, configurations can be created by simply dragging and dropping components into place. Dimensions are calculated automatically and you can submit your deisgn for a quote. 11 wall-mount standards Description Standards are the foundation of the as4 modular shelving system. They are the element to which all components attach. Select a standard based on how the shelving will be used. Choose wall mount standards when the system configuration is installed above the floor. The wall mount standard is a logical choice if the intent is to place the shelves above another piece of furniture, or if the desired effect is to see the shelves floating on the wall. Construction: All standards are solid cold-rolled steel bar. Holes are spaced 2" apart, creating a 2" increment of adjustment. 87 1/4" 107 1/4" Hardware: Wall-mount standards utilize mounting bars that are continuous across the width of a configuration. 12 combination standards Description Standards are the foundation of the as4 modular shelving system. They are the element to which all components attach. Select a standard based on how the shelving will be used. With the combination standard, the entire load of the furniture configuration is carried by the floor. Because of this, the combination standard is recommended for conditions where the integrity of the wall is in question or where the shelving will be subject to particularly heavy loads. Mounting tabs are used to ensure lateral stability. Construction: All standards are solid cold-rolled steel bar. Holes are spaced 2" apart, creating a 2" increment of adjustment. Combination standards have feet that are welded, ground and blended for a seamless appearance. They are supported by the drawer slide brackets, and rest on four rubber tabs. Given it's depth, it is intended for use at a height of 36" or less above the floor to the top of the cabinet. 24 UNDERSTANDING THE FURNITURE STANDARDS (continued from previous page) Do the standards need to align with the studs or framing in my wall? The standards themselves do not need to align with the studs. They attach to a horizontal mounting bar which is pre-drilled for anchoring to the wall. It is recommended that the system be laid out so that the mounting bar holes align with your framing in several locations. Generally the configuration can be shifted slightly to the left or to the right to match the holes with the wall framing. If this isn t possible, additional holes can be drilled in the mounting bar at your stud locations. While this is important for wall-mount standards, combination standards are routinely and reliably installed without attaching to any framing. Please refer to our installation instructions for further detail. What is the increment of adjustment for the system's components? Holes in the standards are spaced 2 apart, creating a 2 increment of adjustment. I want to use the combination standard, but my floor is not very level. Will this be a problem? No. The combination standard comes with an adjustable leveling foot that is designed to accommodate floors that are uneven or not level.

25 UNDERSTANDING THE OTHER as4 MODULAR FURNITURE SYSTEM COMPONENTS You have several module widths available. What are they, and how should I decide which to use? We have two module widths: 22" and 32". This means that any given bay, or section, of the system will be either 22" or 32" wide, and all the components that go into that bay will have that width. You should choose a combination of module widths that makes the system correspond as closely as possible to the area that you have available. For example, if you want a system that's roughly 8 feet long, you could use three 32" bays, or you could use three 22" bays and one 32" bay. For 5 feet use one 32" and one 22" bay. How do I calculate the total width of a configuration? The easiest way to do that is to use our online design tool, the as4 builder. The builder tallies the running width of a configuration automatically. To tally the width of a certain configuration manually, take the sum of the module widths used, and add ½ for each standard. For example, if your configuration has 2 bays, one 22 and one 32, the total configuration width is: ½ + ½ + ½ = 55 ½. How many books can I fit on a shelf? This depends on the width of your books, but we estimate that a 22 wide shelf fits between 20 and 25 books and a 32 wide shelf fits between 30 and 35 books. What is the weight capacity of the shelves? We recommend that no more than 100 lbs. be placed on a shelf or drawer. One of the benefits of using solid steel for the standards and desktop brackets is the ability to support desktops and other heavy items with rigidity and confidence. We recommend that no more than 200 lbs per bracket pair be placed on the desktop. Note also that the stability of the desk also relies on a secure connection of the mounting bar to the wall. What about files? Is there a file drawer or file cabinet? e, e e is e e te e e, e h h ee e th e th. t intended to be used with readily available hanging file folders. Which drawer do you recommend for storing CD s? If you want to be able to read the spines of the CD s, we recommend the 7 ¾ high drawers. What kind of finish is on the wood? 27 CUSTOMIZATION Can I get custom-size components? And will you make items that are not part of your catalog of stock components? The answers are yes and yes. While we recommend against changing the stock module widths (22" and 32"), anything, including the module widths, can be customized. If you want deeper shelves or a bigger cabinet, just ask. And we encourage people to customize the height of their standards. If you have 11" ceilings and want extra height, if you want to use the system as dressers, a credenza, or a wall-hung console, please let us know, and we'll make sure that the system is tailored to your specific use. We also encourage people to request custom components. We've designed and built items from diaper-changing platforms to benches to Murphy beds, all integrated into the system. Does offer design and consulting services? Yes. offers design services for both the customization of components and the layout of system configurations. Up to 2 hours of design services are included with every purchase. This comes in the form of the review of the system configuration and subsequent revisions to the configuration. Should the customer desire more than two hours of consultation, time will be billed at $100/hr. The additional design services will be included in the final invoice for the order.

28 PURCHASING THE as4 MODULAR FURNITURE SYSTEM Where can I see the as4 system in person? Currently, the as4 system can be seen in New York. Please contact us directly to make an appointment to see the system in person. How do I purchase the as4 system? The easiest way to do that is to start with our online design tool at The as builder is an interactive design tool available on the our website, with which customers can build a system configuration by simply dragging and dropping components into position. Running width is calculated automatically, and sketches can be printed saved as a pdf or submitted or a uote. Customers can submit the sketch for review and quote, which we encourage. We review the sketch and pricing with the customer by phone or to confirm the design intent and to make sure that the use of the system components has been maximized. The review also allows the customer to make requests for customization. Customers can also contact us directly by phone or to initiate an order. With the design of the configuration finalized, a proposal is sent to the customer for approval. The order is initiated with the receipt of a 50% deposit. It is adjustable, expandable, and re-configurable, The design is timeless, at home in settings from traditional to modern. What is the lead time for an order? The typical lead time for the as4 system is 1 weeks. Add 2 weeks if the order utilizes custom components. How much is shipping? Are there any limitations to where will ship? Shipping costs depend on the size and complexity of the configuration. We typically use a common carrier for our shipping, but have used FedEx ground, local delivery services and regional moving companies. We are happy to ship anywhere in the world.

30 INSTALLATION Can I install the system myself? Yes. Shelving configurations that use the combination standards can be installed with tools found in most homes. The wrenches required to install and adjust the component fasteners are provided with a system purchase. We recommend that configurations using wall-mount type standards be installed by persons experienced with furniture or cabinetry installation. Do you provide everything that I'll need to install my system? We provide everything except the tools. All the hardware, fasteners and wall anchors that you will need both to install and to assemble your system are provided. Does offer installation services? Yes.
