2 1 SPORTY 2 A 3 FRENCH 4 SUPPORTING AND CONNECTED In 2017, the number of connected devices for sport in France (watches, wristbands, armbands, etc.) exceeded 75 million, according to a study by IDATE, a think tank specializing in the digital economy. By 2021, sales of these devices are set to exceed 250 million units. (IDATE) SPRINGBOARD FOR STARTUPS Since 2015, Le Tremplin, the first business incubator for the sports sector, has raised 80 million (including 25 million in 2017) and incubated more than 60 startups (10% of which are foreign). In its third year, the incubator spawned Akwatyx, APA de Géant, Be Sport, BeatMe, Bestfootball and many more. SPORT TECHS IN LAS VEGAS In 2018, 10 sport tech startups exhibited at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas: CWD Sellier, Digitsole, F Labs, Foosball Society, IMInnov, R Cup, Shapeheart, Sport Quantum, SportBak and Zhor-Tech. The connected innovations on display included a riding saddle, soles, shoes, a running armband and a shooting target! INNOVATION The French Tech #Sport network unites the French sports sector s startup ecosystem: Normandy French Tech, Fabrik du Sport, French Tech in the Alps, Aix-Marseille French Tech, French Tech Montpellier and La Ocean Tech. Other industry players include Sporaltec, Outdoor Sport Valley, Cluster Montagne and the Hippolia cluster.

3 5 GREENER 6 A 7 CHAMPIONS STADIUMS France s latest stadiums are designed to be eco-friendly. The Stade Océane in Le Havre is France s first positive-energy stadium, generating more energy than it consumes, while the Stade Matmut-Atlantique in Bordeaux has a self-regulating pitch and a rainwater collection system. What s more, the Allianz Riviera stadium in Nice is powered by 7,000 sq. m. of solar panels. MAJOR SPORT TECH EVENT For the first time in 2017, Paris hosted the Sport Innovation Summit, which was attended by 300 leading firms from the sports industry. The next Parisian edition of the event will take place in October A rapidly growing number of e-sports events are being held across France: Gamers Assembly in Poitiers since 2000, Lyon E-Sport and Paris Games Week since 2011, and DreamHack in Tours since LEAGUE AND LEAGUE OF LEGENDS From FIFA 17 to League of Legends, football clubs are rushing headlong into the world of e-sports. In France, PSG was the first club to launch an e-sports team. In 2018, the French Football Federation will be embracing e-sports in the form of FIFA 18, with four players selected to wear the national shirt.

4 8 E-SPORTS 9 FUNDRAISING GAIN RECOGNITION Team video games have become a recognized discipline. In 2016, France decided to create the French e-sports Federation. Founded in 2017, the Paris Gaming School trains students in e-sports professions. Lyon s Gaming Campus, the first student campus devoted to the video game industry, will open its doors in October BY FRENCH STARTUPS At the end of 2017, Seaver, a startup that develops connected devices for horse riding, raised 2 million. In 2018, Gymlib, which specializes in the sale of entry passes for sports clubs, raised 10 million, fantasy football game Mon Petit Gazon raised 1 million and La Fabrique du Ski, a high-end French-made ski brand, raised 320,000 with its first campaign. 10 A TICKET FOR FOREIGN SPORT TECHS A frequent host of international sporting events, France has attracted a plethora of foreign startups, including Turkey s Sentio Sports and its performance tracking technology for team sports, and Italo-Colombian venture Golazzos, which has developed a free social media platform that allows football fans to make match predictions. Both have been able to take advantage of the French Tech Ticket program.
