MARS ONE the mars pioneers
BACKSTORY OUTPOST ALPHA Mars One Mission will take 10 astronauts to be the pioneers to the new Mars colony. They will create an Outpost called the Outpost Alpha Outpost Alpha will be the major center for the mission, and provide a safe home for the crew. The design of Outpost Alpha will have 6 assembled pods, and 2 inflatable pods to make up the living quarters, food production, life support systems, recreational areas, mission operations, science research and more. The outpost has plans to expand and add more pods as more astronauts arrive to set up a more permanent settlement
BACKSTORY - OUTPOST ALPHA Technology The construction technology of Outpost Alpha will be simple and Mars One has worked to make a method of construction that allows for easy shipping, assembly, and potential pod replacement parts. Astronauts Before being sent to Mars, every astronaut had to learn about the Outpost Alpha s architecture, daily living routines, and the technology that runs the city on Mars. Outpost Alpha has: Life support pods (that generate energy, water, and breathable air) Living/Working pods (science research, food production, etc.) Rover Robots (2 rovers were sent before humans arrived, and are now usable to the astronauts) Enough food, solar panels, and some replacement parts Mars Suits Communications systems (two satellites will communicate to Earth)
BACKSTORY - MARS ONE Mars One is dedicated to making a civilization on Mars because of their fear about what is happening on earth For example, there have been several issues with industry in the past few years Weyland Industries chemical fire Chernobyl Industries industrial explosion Vandalay Insutries agricultural destruction and mechanical failure MARS ONE s main competitor is Naika, a global company that has a similar mission to establish life of Mars, but they are estimated to be about 1 year behind from their launch. Mars One is worried about threats or sabotage to their company, colony and astronauts Because of their concerns, Mars One has upped their company and on-site security security and screening process when they selected astronauts
BACKSTORY MARS ONE The astronauts have been living on Mars for 3 months on the first base Mars One plans to add a second base to the colony when more astronauts arrive in (in about 1.5 years)

MARS ONE COMMUNICATIONS DOWN Oh no! The astronauts awake on the morning of July 24 th to find out that one of the pods has been damaged. You can t seem to get through the communications pod door, but you can see that there are some broken pieces on the control panel, and some pieces might be missing. Helene Valentina was the first person on the scene when she went to work in the communications pod that day Implications for the Alpha One crew The control panel lets the crew talk with earth. While there are two satellites, the damaged one was the main satellite, and the other one is on a different orbit and is not currently usable They will not be able to communicate to set up the other outpost for next year, or communicate any key information they find The control panel helps to control several key pieces of Outpost Alpha, including food production and breathable air for the crew. While there is enough to last a little while, earth helps control the vital systems. If the system doesn t get rebooted, then it will send distress signals No navigation works
YOUR TEAM S OBJECTIVE Your job is to find out what happened at Outpost Alpha. You will need to apply your understanding of observation, evidence gathering and inference to try and catch the culprit before its too late. You will have access to one of the Mars One Rover Robots to explore the outpost and work through the task to find the culprit. We will give you more information as we go!
