1 NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION U.S. POSTAGE PAID MELBOURNE, FL PERMIT #141 Volume 8 - Issue 1 August 2013
2 FROM THE COMMANDER Well, we get to start a new year with a new outlook on what we are going to do. The post yearly scheduling of events meeting has been held and we are off and running with several new and fun events throughout the year. Check your monthly bulletin's upcoming events section, calendar and the post bulletin boards, for all the times and events for each month. To start off, I would like to see everyone bring in a new member. Let s see if we can get back to the days when we were at 1250 members. Know someone? Bring them in and show them how proud you are of our Legion Post! We have an easy couple of months ahead with not many things on the agenda; we only have one meeting for the month of August. September, we ll get back on schedule with two meetings per month - the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. Once again, we need new bids on the contracts for our janitorial and yard maintenance services. Please turn in your bid by September 1st, Not much more to say except we ll see you at the Post. For God and Country Your Commander Eddie Weber FROM THE 1st VICE COMMANDER The 2014 Membership year is getting off to very good start. We recently transferred, into our Post, over 16 Florida at large members. Welcome to you all. We start off our year with 827 Legion members, around 350 Auxiliary, 90 Sons of the Legion, and 55 Legion Riders. Let us all do our best to sign up at least one new member. We have about 129 Life/80 post-paid members which is around $2800. The Post pays around $ for Boys/Girls State yearly and $ for Jr ROTC. These are just a few of our expenses for community projects. Please be an Early Bird with your dues for Stop by the Post Aug 9th around 3:30 and meet personnel from Patrick AFB and the AFTAC. For God and Country and our Members Dave "Digger" O'Dell 1st Vice/Membership Chairman All Members of Post 163, Come to a Meet and Greet With AFTAC Personnel Aug 9th 3:30PM, Post 163 Canteen Patrick Air Force Base Active Duty Personnel are wanting to meet you, wanting to know all about you
3 FROM THE PRESIDENT I am so excited to have the honor of serving as Unit 163 Auxiliary President for the year! Department President Gerrie Bailey has chosen Cruising for Unity as her theme for the upcoming year and I know Unit 163 will be a unified group, working toward a common goal of making life better for our veterans, their families and our community. We will be starting off the year with some new projects that we can all participate in. The following items are on our wish list of things we need to make these projects succeed. Used magazines Stuffed animals (gently worn and clean) Colored pencils Jigsaw puzzles Adult diapers and pads Patriotic themed fabric (1-1/2 yard per pattern) Worsted yarn (red, white or blue preferred) Coupons to send to troops overseas Collection boxes for these items will be in the Auxiliary room. We also need volunteers to knit, crochet and clip coupons. A sincere thanks to President Pauline Nees for her hard work and dedication during the past year. Although her shoes will be hard to fill, I am committed to working with each of you so that we can reach many goals. For God and Country Ann King-Smith MONTHLY 50 / 50 CASH RAFFLE Have you gotten your August Raffle Tickets Yet??? 1 DOLLAR Drawing September. 1, 2013 Proceeds to Legion programs & equipment
