1 Quarterly Newsletter st Issue Haldeman Mansion Preservation Society 230 Locust Grove Road Bainbridge, PA Annual Meeting on March 23, 2014 The Haldeman Mansion Preservation Society will have its annual meeting at the mansion, 230 Locust Grove Road, Sunday, March 23rd at 3 PM. All are invited to hear our speaker, Steve Runkle. His topic is Canals and Canal Life in the Susquehanna Region. Steve will use a power point presentation. Guest Speaker, Steve A. Runkle s Biography: Steve is a retired Hydraulic Engineer and Engineering Supervisor formerly with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. He also has served as an independent contractor with the Susquehanna River Basin Commission in the field of water resources engineering. Steve s engineering career spanned over 36 years. Steve and his wife, Janeann, have been married 44 years, and reside in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. They have two grown children, and four grandchildren. Steve is active in his church and in local historical groups. Steve has a keen interest in local history, the Revolutionary and Civil War, area canals, coal mining, lumbering and lumber rafting, and Indian tribes that once lived in the Susquehanna Basin. He is here as a volunteer with the Susquehanna River Basin Commission s Public Information and Outreach Program to discuss today s topic.
2 Mark your Calendars Upcoming Events March 23: Annual Meeting at 3 PM at the mansion, 230 Locust Grove Road with Steve Runkle, speaking about the canal. There will be an election of the board and members may vote. So far we have President: open with Elaine Jackson as temporary acting president.- Vice President with Keith Shearer.- Recording Secretary with Richard Keesey.- Corresponding Secretary is open and we need another director. YOU may volunteer for any of these positions. March 15 & March 22: Cleanup Days at the mansion - inside and outside June 1: Strawberry Festival with David Cronce Band, third year at the Haldeman Mansion from noon to 4 PM July 19: Victorian Tea at the mansion at 4 PM September 13: Tavern Dinner at the mansion at 5: 30 PM October 12: Apple Fall Festival at the Haldeman Mansion with Josh Tindall, Elizabeth Tindal and Josh Duma- The Sweet November Band. This is their third year. November 8: Kristkindtle Mart at Bainbridge Fire Hall 8AM to 4 PM.- Venders, please put this on your calendar and notify Elaine Jackson at or elainekjackson@centurylink.net
