1 Japan Film Festival 2017 The Embassy of Japan in Bahrain will host Japan Film Festival 2017 in cooperation with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, supported by the Japan Foundation from 19:00 on 1 st, 5 th, 8 th, 12 th and 15 rd March 2017 at the Auditorium of National Museum. Admission to the venue is FREE. We would be very happy to obtain this opportunity to welcome residents in Bahrain to enjoy the festival. - Program of Events - 1) 1 st of March: THE FLOATING CASTLE Color / 2011 / Approx. 145min (c)2011 "The Floating Castle" Film Partners Japan, 1589: the true story of the one castle that Toyotomi Hideyoshi and his greatest general, Ishida Mitsunari, failed to conquer. This castle has been handed over. Maybe that was a mistake... Nearing the end of Japan s long years of civil war, with Toyotomi Hideyoshi one short step away from finally uniting the land under his rule, he sends a massive army north against the Hojo clan, his last enemy. The one stronghold he cannot take is Oshi Castle, a Hojo outpost in the land of Bushu. Called the floating castle because of the lake that surrounded it, it is under the command of one Narita Nagachika, an extremely popular ruler known to the people of his domain as Nobou-sama, from deku no bou, or blockhead. Under Hideyoshi s orders, General Ishida surrounds the castle with a force of 20,000. Nagachika is, as his nickname suggests, not a gifted man at all, but against the overwhelming resources of the Ishida army, the forces of this valiant little castle a force of only 500 cavalry unite with the common folk in stubborn resistance, retreating not one step even when Ishida resorts to the extraordinary measure of damming a river to flood them out. But, with victory in their grasp, outside events give the story a twist no one would have ever expected. 500 against 20,000: Do they think they can defeat the most powerful enemy in the land?

4 Uncover the true history not in the textbooks! The story is set in Kyoto, just after the Honno-ji Incident, the rebellion by the Nobunaga Oda s vassal, Mitsuhide Akechi. A man interviews the local people in a state of chaos; His name is Yuichi Sawajima. He is a time space journalist who travels to various eras to record the lives of unknown people with using time warp technology. Sawajima records about a famous merchant named Soshitsu Shimai, who has the phantom tea caddy known as Narashiba, and about the Shimai s samurai guard, Gonnosuke Yajima. But suddenly they are attacked by a mysterious monk who has a gun from the future that could not have existed in that era, and the tea caddy is lost. In order not to change the history of the tea caddy and people related to it, Sawajima jumps in and out of various eras while trying to recover the Narashiba tea caddy. Finally he ends up in the final day of Oda s Azuchi Castle, which is about to be destroyed by a mysterious fire. However, after losing his position, he runs out of money and living alone away from his family. Kyutaro doesn't know how to earn money without using his sword. One day Kyutaro gets a job offer, which is to kill a cat. Though Kyutaro finds it quite silly, he decides to do it for money. When Kyutaro opens the door to where the target of his assassin is, he sees the lovely white cat.
