4 GENERL SFETY WRNINGS PERSONL SFETY Everyone is responsible for safety. The installer/service personnel should be trained and authorized to complete the required work. Ensure that the machine is safely isolated during installation and testing to protect all personnel. omplete all required risk assessments and job safety analysis (JS) before commencing work. Observe all site specific and machine OEM procedures regarding the following: working at heights working in heat working in confined spaces all other site specific occupational health and safety (OH&S) procedures MHINE arry out all prestart operations as per site and machine OEM procedures. Ensure the machine is safely isolated during installation and testing to protect the machine and other equipment in the area. o not operate any machine with a known fault and report all findings to the supervisor in writing. Test and operate machine as per machine OEM and site procedures. Read and understand machine and site specific operational and testing instructions. PROUT efore applying power to the equipment, the user/repairer/ installer must read all product instructions. If in doubt, seek assistance. Ensure electrical connections are made as per RT s recommendations. Test circuits prior to connecting power to any component. The equipment contains no user serviceable parts inside. Return the unit to RT for repairs. Retain product and installation instructions for future use. Ensure that RT s recommended service procedures are included in the machine s service routine. Observe all machine, site and RT product warnings. Follow all machine, site and RT product operating procedures at all time. 5 PROUT OVERVIEW The Muirhead Idle Timer ontroller, part number 450, is designed to ensure a machine is idled down for the correct period of time as recommended by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). This idle down period allows the machine to cool slowly and prevent engine damage from heat stress. prime example of this is the engine s turbochargers that require oil for bearing lubrication the high temperatures of the turbochargers must be dissipated before the engine is switched off. 6 OPERTION N USE The Muirhead Idle Timer ontroller, part number 450, operates (by default) by shutting down the machine after a 3 minute time delay when the ignition is switched off. The operation of the controller is detailed below;. Turn the ignition switch off with the park brake applied. The machine will continue to run for the pre-programmed time cycle with the cycle LE (usually mounted in the instrument panel) illuminated. Once the timed cycle has been completed, the machine will shut down. If the ignition is switched back to run at any time within the timed cycle, the timer will reset and commence the full cycle, once the ignition is switched back to off position. 2. ctivating the engine shutdown switch while the unit is in idle down mode will cause the machine to shut down immediately. This will only occur with the ignition in the off position. 3. If the key is switched to the off position at any time with the park brake released, the machine will immediately shut down. lternatively, if the park brake is released while the unit is in idle down mode (with the key in the off position) the machine will immediately shut down. If the auxiliary output is configured as an alarm, either of these two conditions will cause the alarm to sound until the park brake is applied again. Note: If the ground level shutdown feature is active, then the engine shutdown switch will shut down the machine when the key is in the on or off position. PRK RKE PPLIE ETETION (OPTIONL) If this option is used, the park brake switch must be connected to the controller.. When the key is switched to the off position and the park brake is applied, the controller will enter idle down mode. If the park brake is released while in idle down mode, the alarm will sound and the machine will shut down, preventing an operator driving off with the key in the off position. 2. If the key is switched off at any time with the park brake released, the machine will shut down and the alarm will sound. 3. If an operator is required to mobilise the machine whilst the key is switched to the off position and the machine is in idle down mode, the key must be returned to the run position before the park brake is released. GROUN LEVEL SHUTOWN (OPTIONL) If this option is used, it allows additional ground level shutdown switches to be installed in series with the standard engine shutdown switch. It also allows the machine to be shut down at any time whether it is in idle down mode or not. These switches allow for shutdown of the machine when not in idle down mode (key ON). To activate this option, pin 7 must be connected to machine ground. WRNING! This product has been designed to shut down the engine while at idle only. Temperature checked for board temperature exceeding 80. YELLOW Pulses during normal operation, indicates system OK. Flashes on and off at one-second intervals (on for one second, off for one second). GREEN On for normal operation. Flashes when valid input goes active (number of flashes = input number). llows checking that inputs are correctly wired and that the hardware is seeing the input toggle. 8 INSTLLTION GUIE. Install the controller in a suitable location preferably in the cabin. 2. Refer to the wiring table below and the wiring diagram in this manual to connect the controller. It is recommended that the wiring is installed alongside the OEM wiring ensuring that it is secured at regular intervals; this will provide protection from heat and abrasion, and any other excess damage that may occur with extended vehicle operation. When securing the wiring to the OEM wiring, ensure that the loom is away from moving vehicle parts which could lead to loom damage. WIRING ONNETIONS NO. OLOUR FUNTION ESRIPTION Red attery +VE onnect to the permanent battery supply at the key switch (supply 2-24 V ). 2 lack Ground Earth (ground). 3 Yellow/lue Output (ignition output) onnect to the (OEM) ignition wires previously disconnected from the ignition terminal at the key switch (0 continuous output). 4 lack Output 3 LE VE (low side 0.6 sink). 5 Orange Input isconnect the existing ignition (OEM) wires from the ignition terminal at the key switch and connect the orange wire to the ignition terminal. 6 White (Optional) Input 3 Optional. Park brake input (positive when released). 7 rown Input 4 Optional. Ground input (this input is connected when ground level shutdown switches are fitted). 8 Pink Input 2 Engine shutdown stop switch (N/). 9 Purple (Optional) Output 4 Only to be used on machines using the terminal at key switch for auxiliary control after shutdown, e.g., aterpillar. isconnect the existing (OEM) wire no. 326 from the terminal at the key switch and connect to the purple wire from the controller (high side 0.7 continuous output). 0 lue Output 2 Positive alarm output (used when park brake input is connected). 15 LIRTION LIRTION MOE Read the entire procedure before starting. To enter calibration mode:. Hold the engine shutdown switch in the active position. 2. Turn on ignition. 3. Turn off ignition. 4. Release the engine shutdown switch. 5. The cycle LE will be flashing. If performed correctly, the device will now be in calibration mode. This is indicated by all device status indicators flashing very fast. Note: The calibration mode will time out and exit if there is no user input for 60 seconds. To exit calibration mode:. ycle the power to the device (e.g., remove the eutsch plug from the device and then reinsert it). TO HNGE ILE TIME VLUE. Enter calibration mode; 2. Toggle the engine shutdown switch (i.e., turn it on and then off again) to increment the idle time value by minute to a maximum of 2 minutes. 3. To save the new value, hold the engine shutdown switch on again and it must remain on for more than 0 seconds (this does not count as a toggle). SERVIE INFORMTION SERVIE SHEULE The manufacturer recommends that the following service procedure should be performed at each machine s scheduled service interval. SERVIE PROEURE.
