1 May 10, 2012 STRICTLY EMBARGOED FOR BROADCAST OR PUBLICATION UNTIL 13.00HRS ON WEDNESDAY MAY 10, 2012 Nominations for the Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards Announced The nominations for the 2012 Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards were unveiled today (May 10), via an online broadcast for the first time in the awards history. Jamie Theakston and Harriet Scott from London s Heart presented the online broadcast at 12.30pm in association with Myspace at The awards, now in their 17 th year, are organised by RadioCentre, the industry body for commercial radio, and recognise excellence and achievement across the whole spectrum of commercial radio output, from presenters and programming to advertising and marketing. This year s nominations are led by Global, who appear in 13 different categories, with a total of 15 nominations. Bauer is closely behind, with 13 nominations while Absolute Radio receives 11 and GMG has seven nominations. Alongside the major groups, Lincs FM and Orion, as well as smaller local operators like Isle of Wight Radio, 106 JACKfm Oxfordshire, Touch FM and The Bay are also in the running for awards. Andrew Harrison, chief executive of RadioCentre said: The Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards are a great opportunity for our radio stations to showcase their work. We are delighted to have received our highest number of entries ever this year, with some really fantastic entrants into our new Radio Station Event of the Year category. 2 Christian O Connell from Absolute Radio will host the awards which take place on the evening of Wednesday July 4, at the Westminster Bridge Park Plaza. There will also be live music performances by special guests to be announced nearer the event. There are a total of 29 categories, including new category PPL Breakthrough UK Artist of the Year, and five categories for radio advertising, in what is the biggest annual celebration of UK commercial radio. The Ali Booker Booker Memorial Award for Journalist or News Team of the Year will also be announced in July.
