2 SAUTER EY-modulo 4 General functioning of the automation station The modu420 automation station (AS) is a microprocessorassisted, freely programmable controller used to control and regulate a varied range of HVAC applications on the basis of LON technology. The modu420 automation station uses the LonTalk communication protocol and is LonMark -certified if the sensor profile (number 1) is used for the relevant input objects and if the actuator profile (number 3) is used for the relevant output objects. The integrated operating programme can be programmed freely; it reads in the hardware and software addresses, processes the user programme, updates the outputs and handles the necessary communication with other stations in the network or with the management level. The user program can be loaded from any point in the LON network using SAUTER CASE LON Engine. The plugins can be used to programme or parameterize the controllers with the SAUTER CASE LON Engine network management tool or via any LNS-based software, according to choice. Engineering notes Installation and wiring The modu420 automation station can be fitted in an MCC using a top-hat rail (EN 60715). Wall-mounting is possible, using the fitting holes in the lower housing. It is possible to separate the upper and lower sections of the housing in order to install and connect the automation station. The plant devices are connected via screw terminals. The following conditions must be met: Cross-section conductors: LON network: of min mm² (AWG 18), max. 2 mm² (AWG 13), compliant with standards and national installation regulations. min mm² (AWG 22), twisted and unscreened Suitable network terminations (terminators) must be used for different network topologies. Failure to comply with the specified requirements may cause transmission errors between the controllers. The use of different cable cross-sections in one network section is not permitted. Detailed guidelines on planning and installing twisted-pair LonWorks networks have been published by the Echolon Corporation. All the inputs and outputs must be configured via software. The input resolution is 16 bits and the output resolution is 10 bits. ON/OFF Output: Current: 0 20 ma Voltage: 0 10 V= Digital: 0/12 V=, (I/O) PWM Triac: PWM, on/off, floating 1 A max The sampling period for the inputs is 1 s if they are configured as current, voltage, potentiometer or temperature inputs, and 500 ms for configuration as digital or pulse inputs. The UIx inputs can take a maximum load of 24 V. 2/6

3 EY-AS420 Technical specifications of inputs and outputs Temperature measurement (Ni1000, NTC, Pt) The Ni/Pt1000 sensors are connected using the two-wire method between one of the input terminals for a universal input (UI01 UI06) and an earth terminal. In case of an Ni/NTC/Pt connection, the inputs do not require calibration and can be used directly. The connected sensor type and the desired offset input are chosen in the software. Potentiometer measurement (Pot) It is possible to use the input in combination with a potentiometer if a 10 k or 100 k resistance is used. For configuration purposes, the resistance value can be limited and scaled to any desired value range in C. A potentiometer is connected between an input terminal of a universal input (UI01 UI06) and the associated earth terminal. The measurement accuracy is ± 0.5%. Current measurement (I) The current to be measured is connected to the input terminals of the universal inputs (UI01 UI06) between UIx and earth. The signal must be potential-free. In order to use the current input on the modu420 automation station, either a supply of current to the sensor or a parallel input-sensor supply is required. A 249 resistance must also be connected in parallel with the input. The input is defined as a 0 20 ma input by default. To adapt the input to 4 20 ma, the minimum value must be configured as 4 ma in the software. Voltage measurement (U) The universal inputs (UI01 UI06) are used to measure voltage. The voltage input has a range of 0 10 V. The connection is made to an input and the associated earth terminal. The voltage signal must be potential-free. The input can be adapted to different ranges via software. Parameters "min.", "max." or "offset" are available for this purpose. Digital inputs All universal inputs (UI01 UI06) can be used as digital inputs and must be connected to earth. Type of inputs: Pulse counters: Potential-free contacts, connected to earth Opto-coupler Transistor (open collector) 500 ms on/off Digital inputs (DI) Digital information is connected between the input terminals (UI01 UI06) and earth. The station applies a voltage of approx. 13 V to the terminal. In normal cases (NORMAL) this corresponds to INACTIVE (bit=0) for an open contact. When a contact is closed it is ACTIVE (bit=1) and 0 V is applied, whereby the current flow equates to approx. 1 ma. For each input, it is possible to define the "on" and "off" values individually, as well as the direction of operation (normal or reverse). Pulse counter at digital input (CI with DI) Counter inputs for potential-free contacts, opto-couplers or transistors with an open collector can be connected to the digital inputs. The maximum time that can be measured between the ON and OFF values for the input must be at least 500 ms. Pulses are measured on the rising and falling flanks. The values for this purpose can be adjusted individually. The combination of the two values is evaluated as a pulse. Digital output (DO) All the universal outputs (UO01 UO03) can be configured as digital outputs. A discrete output signal is issued: 0 V= for OFF and 12 V= for ON. If a relay is triggered via the universal output, a diode (1N400x family) must be connected to the connection terminals in parallel. This protects the output against voltage peaks when the relay cuts out. If the universal outputs are configured as PWM outputs, the period duration can be set between 2 s and 15 min. The period duration can be set between 0 and 100% of the "on" duration. Loading capacity of the output: max. 60 ma at 12 V= Max. load 200 The output is fitted with a self-resetting fuse. Maximum power load: 60 ma at 60 C 100 ma at 100 C The output is written immediately if the programmed value changes. However, this does not take place more quickly than the programme cycle time. It is not advisable to connect a relay to the output in PWM mode. 3/6

4 EY-AS420 Voltage output (U) The universal outputs (UO01 UO03) can be configured as voltage outputs, via the software. The output voltage is measured between the relevant output terminal and an earth terminal (UOx, Com). Type of output: 0(2)...10 V= approx. 60 ma to earth Triac outputs 5 x digital Triac max. 1.0 A for 24 V~ at Tmax 40 C Triac max A for 24 V~ at Tmax 70 C One earth per output The Triac outputs can be configured as PWM, digital (on/off) or 3- point outputs, according to choice. For use as a 3-point output, it is mandatory to use two adjacent outputs. Time programme and calendar A maximum of two independent time programmes can be configured in the AS programme. This is done via a plug-in. Each time programme supports up to 6 events per day of the week. In addition, 4 special days with up to 6 events each can be configured per time programme. Behaviour on switching off or in case of a mains failure All the programme parameters are stored in the flash memory to secure them against failures. When the station is reconnected to the power supply, the user programme is started as normal. LED displays The automation station has 3 LED displays on the front to signal operating statuses and network communication. The three LEDs on the left, arranged vertically, indicate the following statuses: LED name Display Description Permanently on Normal mode Permanently off APB file missing (AS has no application loaded) SERVICE Flashing AS in operation; LED flashes depending on execution of the programme Flashing slowly (1 s on/1 s off) AS is not configured Flashing quickly (0.3 s on/1 s off) Watchdog time-out; application is faulty. RX/TX Flickers irregularly AS is sending and/or receiving data LEDs O01 O08 signal the operating status of the universal outputs depending on the specific configuration. Output configuration Analogue output (0 10 V) Digital output PWM Display 0 V = off 10 V = on 0 V = off 10 V = on 0V = off 12 V = on Programming and parameterisation of the automation station Commissioning the automation station To commission the automation station, it must be connected to the LON network. Sauter CASE LON Engine can be used to commission the automation station. To do this, call up the Commission Device function, select the appropriate image (.abp file) and then press the Service Pin on the automation station. If an incorrect.apb file is loaded, the neuron chip may be destroyed and the automation station will become unusable. Network variables The controller software supports all structured SNVTs and UNVTs of 1 and 2 bytes in length. 17 NVIs and 17 NVOs (with changeable types and lengths) are available. 5 additional NVIs are available as possible bindings, as fan inputs. In this case, 3 NVIs can be used (supporting up to 80 NVs) in combined minimum, maximum, total or average function, and 2 NVIs in maximum or minimum function. User programme To create the user programme, a graphic programming interface is available in which individual function blocks are combined to form complex programmes. For this purpose, the modu420 automation station supports the use of up to 16 independent PID loops and 2 schedules. Once functions have been created within the programming environment, it is possible to store them for further use in the form of one's own user modules. The software supports the following types of function block (functions): Comparators (=,, <, >, ) constant and variable (types: numerical and enumeration), customer-specific function blocks, function blocks of a general nature (min, max, limit, etc.), HVAC (optimum start/stop, enthalpy calculation, dew-point calculation, etc.), logic functions (and, or, switch, multiplexer, etc.), mathematical functions (+, -, *, /, sum, root, etc.), SNVT conversion, time functions (timer, schedule, etc.) and VAV functions. A value range of 24 bits (± ) is available for integers. Up to 10 values can be stored permanently so that they are not lost after a reset. The two schedulers have simply configurable weekly, daily and vacation planners. Special events can quickly be added or deleted. Seven weekly templates and six configurable events can be set per day for each scheduler. 4/6
