3 Introduction Important Information This guide provides the basic information needed to install the Ag Leader DirectCommand system on a sprayer. It is intended to be used by Ag Leader dealers who are trained and knowledgeable about the installation of such systems. It is important to read this guide prior to beginning the installation. This guide contains warnings of potential hazards, and a collection of best practices that will help your installation go smoothly, safely and be successful. Preliminary Installation Requirements Sprayer booms should be lowered to the ground or on mechanical safety stops before starting work. Do not work under sprayer booms supported by hydraulic system only. Turn off machine and wait for all motion to stop before starting work. Set parking brake. Check behind vehicle and implement panels for any holes, wiring or controls that could be damaged when drilling any holes. Disconnect the Display, DirectCommand components, flow meter and electrical system when welding on equipment or jump starting unit to prevent component damage due to power surges or excessive current. If using a non Ag Leader GPS receiver, make sure to install a Null Modem Cable, included in the Display Kit, to prevent damage to the Display or GPS receiver. Use Dielectric grease to coat the seals and terminals of each connector that will be exposed to weather or chemicals as you plug them in. Be sure to follow the alignment keys on the plugs and the receptacles carefully. Do not use excessive force when mating connectors. Turn on existing rate control console, if equipped, and copy down the boom section widths and flow meter calibration numbers. 2. Run the sprayer one last time to make sure all of the components are in working order before removing the console. Verifying that all of the rate control components work will help with any potential troubleshooting issues after the installation. 3. Turn off the existing rate control console. Disconnect the cable from the back of the console and remove the console from the vehicle. 4. Disconnect batteries from electrical system. Remove molding 5. Remove plastic molding from cab pillar to enable display cable routing through pillar. 6

7 Remove access panel 6. Remove access panel of console. 7. If using an Ag Leader steering system. Route Ethernet cable from console through pillar up to display. 8. Route display adapter cable through pillar and connect to Hagie harness. 9. Attach square RAM mounting base provided in display kit to back of display. 10. Secure display to RAM base located on cab ceiling using RAM Arm. NOTE: Mount display in a convenient location for operation, but out of the operator s line of sight during normal operation. 7

8 11. Connect round connector(s) on Display Cable to mating connector(s) on back of AgLeader Display. Panel removed 12. Remove external cab acess panel on RH side of cab. Steer Controller If not using an Ag Leader steering system connect the Hagie GPS Loop to the Steer Controller 2 connector. 8

9 Chassis Installation Installation Procedure: 1. Mount the GPS receiver on the roof of the cab. Either use the existing Hagie bracket on the roof or the generic bracket and double sided tape that comes with the receiver. 2. Connect the Receiver Adapter cable to the GPS receiver. Route the cable down along the right rear cab post to the belly pan area. 3. Locate and open belly pan. 4. Install Auxillary Input Bridge Module and WSM Liquid Rate Control Module on inside surface of belly pan. Use provided 5/16 inch bolts, nuts, and flat washers. No drilling is required. 9

10 5. Connect ISOBUS breakout cables to mating connectors of Aux Input Bridge Module and WSM Liquid Rate Control Module. 6. Refer to line art as a guide for properly connecting ISOBUS and Local CAN connectors of ISOBUS Breakout Cable. NOTE: Do not forget to install termination at each end of Local CAN bus and ISOBUS. Bulkhead connectors 7. Connect the Receiver Adapter cable and Rate Control CAN Adapter cable to the mating bulkheads beneath the cab. 8. Connect high current power connector of Rate Control CAN Adapter cable to WSM liquid Rate Control Module. 9. Connect the ISOBUS connector to the ISOBUS breakout cable of Aux Input Bridge Module. 10

11 10. Refer to line art as a guide and connect Hagie Interface Cable to the following: a. WSM Liquid Rate Control Module. b. Aux Input Bridge Module. c. Hagie interface connection. See following image for location. NOTE: Hagie interface connection can be found behind belly pan near modules. Hagie interface connection 11. Connect additional (optional) pressure sensor(s) to Hagie Interface cable. Extension cables may be required. 11

12 12. Install provided dust plug into unused receptacle of WSM Liquid Rate Control Module. 13. After all cables have been connected, reconnect batteries. Refer to the feature user guide for setting up the display. 2. Enter the default settings from the following chart for the initial sprayer setup. 12

13 Setting Name Control Valve Configuration Default Value PWM 12-Volt Description Rate control is achieved through speed changes to the solution pump. The PWM 12 Volt setting is programmed to pulse the power to an electric solenoid valve used to adjust the hydraulic flow to the solution pump. PWM Frequency 122 (STS) 115 (DTS) The frequency that the PWM control valve is pulsed at. Settings can be found from the manufacturer of the valve. Typical range from Hz. Determines how agressively the control valve responds when making rate change adjustments. The higher the value the more aggressive the system response is. PWM Gain * PWM Standby *35-50 NOTE: Leaving all other valve control settings at the default value and making a small adjustment to the Gain is usually all that is required to fine-tune the control system. NOTE: Some adjustment may be needed, if using a PWM control valve, to be made to achieve optimal pump response to the PWM gain value. Increase the Gain value to make the system more responsive; decrease the Gain value to smooth the system response. This is a user-defined setting that determines the percent duty cycle the system uses when the booms are all off. The setting must be greater than the Zero Flow Offset. Zero Flow Offset 30 Allowable Error 2% Represents the maximum duty cycle that is sent to the control valve without producting any hydraulic flow from the PWM valve. Using too high of a Zero Flow Offset value can cause the product control system to not properly control low rates or to shut off. See the PWM valve manufacturer information for recommended settings. Determines the percent error that is allowed prior to the product control system making any flow rate corrections. 2-3% is the normal Allowable Error Range. Too low of a setting will cause the system to continually hunt for the target application rate. Too high of a setting will cause excessive application error. This is the pulses per gallon through the flow meter. Flowmeter Cal See Note NOTE: Verify that the flowmeter calibration number is correct by checking the information tag on the flowmeter. NOTE: Raven flowmeter calibration numbers are in pulses per 10 gallons of product flow. To calculate the appropriate values, divide the Raven calibration number by 10 before entering into the Ag Leader display. NOTE: If it becomes necessary to change the default settings, change one setting at a time so changes can be evaluated accurately. 13

14 Post-Installation Checklist Display Bracket and Display installed and all fasteners are tight. Control Modules installed and all fasteners are tight. All cable ends and terminations are connected. All cables are secured with cable ties. 14
