All bandpass RF modulation types are supported including BPSK, PSK, AM, OFDM, AM, FM, PM, FMCW, and pulsed Doppler. n-stock units feature DC-3 MHz / bandwidth. The LO leakage is factory nulled at the center LO frequency. Contact Polyphase Microwave for / lowpass filter options or narrowband frequency optimization. The AM117A includes an / mixer, LO amplifier, / lowpass filters, and / differential amplifiers. The AM117A can be interfaced directly with single-ended or differential / sources including most high-speed DACs. 4 AM3A MODULATOR NTERFACNG / NPUTS The AM3A is designed for easy interfacing to both single-ended and differential and sources. The modulator s and inputs are differential with 1 of input impedance. The allowed commonmode voltage range (DC bias) is -2. V to + 2. V and the differential-mode voltage range is -1 V to +1 V. nternal lowpass filters set the modulator s / signal bandwidth to 3 MHz. Contact the factory for other available filter bandwidths. SNGLE-ENDED / DRVE The AM3A can be driven with single-ended / signals. Connect the single-ended and sources directly to the modulator s and inputs as shown in Figure 1. To minimize LO leakage, it is important to terminate the unused and inputs with termination resistors to ground. The termination resistors should be chosen to provide the modulator s 4 / input ports with identical resistance to ground at DC ( Hz). CHANNEL SOURCE AM3A Single-ended / signals should not contain any DC bias or offset as this will result in increased LO leakage. Single-ended and signals should be maintained within the range of -2. V to +2. V. DAC NTERFACNG The AM3A is designed for direct connection to high-speed DACs having differential current-source outputs. One example is the Analog Devices AD9783, a dual 16-bit MSPS DAC. Figure 2 shows the AD9783 DAC driving the AM3A modulator. No external resistors, amplifiers, or filters are required. When configured for 2 ma full-scale current, the AD9783 provides the AM3A with 1 V p-p differential signals centered at a common-mode voltage of mv. 5 AM3A LO DRVE The LO input power should be in the range of +4 dbm to +7 dbm (+ dbm nominal). The AM3A modulator will perform (with degraded quadrature phase error) over the input range of - dbm to +1 dbm. The LO signal s second harmonic should be maintained below -3 dbc relative to the fundamental. LO leakage of the modulator will degrade as the second harmonic of the LO drive signal increases. DC SUPPLES The DC input pins will tolerate accidental reverse polarity and overvoltage conditions from -1V to +1V without damage.
