PHOTOGRAPHY For 2-D images you must submit one 35mm slide for each of the seven images. An element of 3-D can be added to 2-D images by hanging titles in space. (See Strip-In Titles). For 3-D images you must submit 35mm slide pairs. You may hire a professional 3-D photographer or use one of the Stereo Realist cameras we have for loan. (See Camera Loan Policy.) The MAGIC of View-Master is a 3-D Image! Slides should be clearly labeled and cropping instructions should be clear and concise. Include a print of each slide and draw in your cropping lines and (if required) strip-in title area. (See attached instructions.) Complete cropping instructions will save time in the process. The cropping template can be found on page 10. When drawing these lines on your print be sure you can still see your photograph all around the square. The inner rounded-square is what you can see through the viewer. ENOUGH BLEED AREA IS VITAL! Please send original slides to ensure high quality. When submitting digital files please use PhotoShop software. The View-Master template files are on the Custom Production CD in the file named VM Digital Template ZIP Files. Photography and artwork will be returned to customer after the project is completed. Fisher-Price is not liable for lost or damaged film. Fisher-Price requires proper legal documentation and model releases when using any models, images from stock photography sources or licensed products. Documentation should be submitted with the original order. Fisher-Price / View-Master holds a right of refusal because of image quality or content. DIGITAL FILES When submitting digital files please use PhotoShop software. The Custom Production CD contains the View-Master template otherwise use 1617 x 1366 dpi. 6
VIEW-MASTER TECHNICAL INFORMATION, TIPS AND TECHNIQUES 3-D CAMERAS Stereo Realist A rangefinder type camera ideally suited for photographing movies and television assignments. Shutter must be cocked separately from film advance. Camera mechanism is very dependable. Format is vertical. DON T FILL THE FRAME TOO TIGHT, TOP AND BOTTOM. (View-Master format is approximately square.) Leave bleed room. FILM Slide Film For general-purpose work. Contrast is fine for duplication. Moderate grain. Ektachrome preferred for on-set movie and television photo assignments. High Speed Slide Film Use for low-light level needs, movies, TV, interior sports, etc. Do not expose for more than one stop push processing. Push processing only in emergencies. COMPOSITION Basically the rules of good two-dimensional picture taking apply in stereo, too. Here are five good thoughts to remember. Center of Interest Keep your main subject in mind. Try not to place center of interest in dead center, that s dull! Avoid sky and waterlines that cut picture in half. Subject placement is important. Be creative! Picture Elements Use good framing techniques. Use contrast effectively such as light subject against dark background. Repeat elements for strong composition and picture rhythm. Keep it Simple Don t try to clutter the scene with too many ideas or interest points. Foreground Use good foreground interest to lead viewer into the scene. Remember, think stereo and enhance the 3-D effect by using elements such as trees, roads, walls, tracks, fences, etc. Keep in mind your composition if you plan to lay in type (strip-in titles). 7
LIGHTING As your originals are to be duplicated, you should strive for the least possible light and dark contrast in your pictures. However, this light and dark contrast does not apply to silhouetted areas intended for framing or composition purposes. Shoot scenes in bright sunlight; preferably with the sun shining directly on the scene. If possible, avoid the high overhead noontime sun. Avoid extreme side and back lighting. A good sun angle will show your shadow approximately the same length as the person. You can improve close-up exterior pictures of people with fill-in flash. FORMAT REQUIREMENTS The View-Master format is slightly horizontal. When shooting with a Stereo Realist remember to allow for top and bottom cropping. THE STEREO REALIST CROPPING FORMAT IS VERTICAL. Leave bleed room left and right (see cropping instructions). TIPS Date: Shoot stereo photography with the camera in a horizontal position. Keep the camera level (left to right) at all times! Camera may be tipped up or down when needed but parallel lines will converge the same as in 2-D photos. Don t get too close. Frame your picture then step back a bit. Standard Model Release Photographers name and address: In return for valuable consideration, I agree that all images that you have made of me are your property and that you may reproduce them and use them in any way without further compensation to me. I am over 18 years of age. Yes No Model s name Address Phone _ Signature 8
STRIP-IN TITLES STRIP-IN TITLES OF ONE OR TWO LINES ADD VALUE TO MANY PICTURES Strip-in titles are a great way to increase depth of field in any image, especially if the artwork is 2-D. The View-Master Creative Department can add layers of text or other imagery in many colors, shapes and styles. The actual images would be in 2-D. (We are unable to match Pantone colors.) Copy must be submitted digitized and on this form. Save your work to a disc using both EPS (Encapsulated Postscript File) AND in its native format. Include a copy of the screen and printer fonts. Color should be specked as RGB. Strip-in titles are usually placed in the lower part of the picture area, which is blacked out to carry white lettering so that the viewer can read a sales message or product explanation while looking at the picture. A mounted View-Master transparency measures 11.5 millimeters wide and 10.5 millimeters high. The sketch below indicates by dotted lines the approximate frame area allotted to one or two lines of strip-in titles. Upper and lower case is recommended for better legibility. Provide for title space at the time of original photography or select originals that can be cropped for titles. Print or typewrite STRIP-IN TITLE copy: Maximum of 45 letters, allowing 2 or 3 capitals, 30 if all capitals, per line Picture 1 Picture 2 Picture 3 Picture 4 Picture 5 Picture 6 Picture 7 9
REEL INFORMATION SHEET Face-of-Reel Titles no extra charge Client Address City State Zip Product(s) Reel No. (if one of series) Date 20 CENTER OF REEL COPY Center-of-Reel is devoted to your firm name or product name. If a logo is used, it must be sent in ditigal form, and it will be positioned above the center hole. The file must be black and white line art, half tones are unacceptable. Files should be saved in a MAC format (preferable Adobe Illustrator) or EPS file. Keep in mind the logos will be very small on the reel, complicated and detailed logos do not reproduce well. Space below the center hole may be used for a Reel title, address, phone #, etc. (Reel No. ) Line 1 Line 2 Actual size Line 3 Line 4 Line 5 Line 6 INDIVIDUAL PICTURE TITLES Titles for individual pictures may be printed in the 7 window title spaces between the Centerof-Reel copy and the pictures. These may be up to four lines, depending on amount of copy. If no titles are desired the numbers 1 to 7 will appear. Print clearly or typewrite copy for the INDIVIDUAL PICTURE TITLES exactly as you wish them to appear below.
