2 HTP STRIKER CFB WELDING HELMET HTP STRIKER CFB-1 WELDING HELMET THANK YOU FOR PURCHASING an HTP Striker CFB welding helmet. This is a full featured welding helmet designed to give you years of trouble free use. Your welding helmet is designed to protect your eyes and face from spark and spatter, as well as from the ultra-violet and infra-red rays produced when welding. Your Striker CFB helmet comes with either a 1- or 2-year warranty (the CFB comes with a 2-year warranty while the CFB1 comes with a 1-year warranty). This manual provides operating and maintenance instructions for your Striker CFB welding helmet. Welding helmets are designed to protect the eyes and face from sparks and spatter, as well as from harmful infra-red and ultra-violet rays that develop under normal welding conditions. It will not protect against severe impact hazards. Therefore, this helmet must be used with impact resistant, primary eye protection that meets current safety standards. HEADGEAR It is very important that the helmet fits comfortably and correctly on your head. As shown in Figure 1, there are 3 adjustments that can be made so the helmet fits correctly on your head.

Adjust the strap so the pin in the lower portion of the top strap fits in the correct hole in the upper portion of the top strap.

3 HEADGEAR It is very important that the helmet fits comfortably and correctly on your head. As shown in Figure 1, there are 3 adjustments that can be made so the helmet fits correctly on your head. #1 TOP STRAP: The top strap adjustment determines how high the helmet sits on your head; too low and the headband will cover your ears, too high and you will not see squarely through the lens. Adjust the strap so the pin in the lower portion of the top strap fits in the correct hole in the upper portion of the top strap. #2 HEAD DIAMETER: You can quickly and easily adjust the helmet to fit the diameter of your head by using the adjustment knob on the back of the headgear. To adjust the headgear, push in the knob and turn; clock-wise will make it larger, counterclockwise will make it smaller. #3 FORE AND AFT: You can adjust how close the helmet sits to your face. The helmet has 3 positions and it is shipped in the center position. You can adjust the helmet so it sits farther from your face or closer to your face. In most instances the center position works for 95% of our customers. This adjustment is best made by removing the headgear retaining screw and removing the headgear from the helmet shell. This adjustment is quite snug, so be sure to support the headgear while you are doing this. Also, make sure to set both sides of the helmet to the same position. #4 HELMET DOWN FORCE: The helmet down force can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the head gear retaining knob. You want the retaining knob tight enough to keep the cover in the up position when you raise it, but loose enough that it drops to the down position when you nod your head. #5: LENS ANGLE: You can adjust the lens angle to one of three postitions. Adjust the lens angle tot he position that works best for you. Make sure to set both sides to the same position. 3

ADF LENS ADJUSTMENTS #1 OPENING DELAY: The opening delay refers to how long your helmet takes to return back to the light state. There are 3 settings Long is 0.8 sec, Middle is 0.

This setting in no way affects the amount of time it takes to go from the light state to the dark (welding) state. We recommend setting the opening delay to Long at all times.

And more than likely the helmet will see the arc before it goes back to the light state. #2 WELDING MODE: You can chose between 2 welding modes.

4 ADF LENS ADJUSTMENTS #1 OPENING DELAY: The opening delay refers to how long your helmet takes to return back to the light state. There are 3 settings Long is 0.8 sec, Middle is 0.5 sec, and Short is 0.25 sec. Again, this is the amount of time, after you STOP welding, that is takes for the helmet to go from the dark welding state to the light state. This setting in no way affects the amount of time it takes to go from the light state to the dark (welding) state. We recommend setting the opening delay to Long at all times. That way, if for some reason the sensors in the helmet cannot see the arc, it will take the longest amount of time to go back to the light state. And more than likely the helmet will see the arc before it goes back to the light state. #2 WELDING MODE: You can chose between 2 welding modes. The first is the Welding Mode where the helmet will darken when it senses a welding arc. Use this mode when you are MIG Welding and Arc Welding. The other mode is the Plasma Cutting/Grinding Mode. Selecting this mode will lock your Striker CFB in the light state which is good for flame cutting with an oxy-acetlyene torch, plasma cutting, and grinding. Be sure to switch the mode back to the welding mode when you are finished. SHADE ADJUSTMENT: Figure 4 shows the Shade Adjustment. The shade adjustment is located on the outside of your Striker CFB, on the left-hand side. Set the shade to a level that allows you to comfortably see the arc. If the shade is set too light, after a full day of welding you will have a headache because the arc will be too bright. If the shade is set too dark, you won t be able to see the arc. A good starting point is to set the shade to Shade 10. If you are running a.023 wire at low amperages welding thin sheet metal, you may want to go lighter on the shade setting. If you are welding.035 wire at 250 amps, you may want to go darker on the shade setting. It is important to set the shade so you are comfortable. SENSITIVITY ADJUSTMENT: Figure 5 shows the sensitivity adjustment. The sensitivity adjustment is located on the outside of your Striker CFB, on the right hand side. The sensitivity takes into account the ambient lighting conditions where you are welding. If the sensitivity is set too low, your helmet may not darken. If it is set too high, the lights in the room may cause to the helmet to darken. We recommend setting the sensitivity as follows: Set the sensitivity to the low setting. Put the helmet on your head and look through the lens. Rotate the sensitivity knob clockwise towards the high setting until the lens becomes dark. Now rotate the sensitivity knob counter-clockwise until the lens becomes light. If your helmet does not darken when the sensitivity is set to high without welding, don t worry, it just means there is not enough light to darken the helmet. You can leave the sensitivity setting set to high 4

CHANGING THE COVER PLATES It is important to keep the cover plates clean and free of welding spatter and scratches. This will impair your view of the welding arc.

Remove the protective coating prior to installing the new cover plate. The front cover plate is HTP part# 90130-01, and the inside cover plate is HTP part # 90130-03.

Both the inner and outer cover plates can be changed by simply slipping your fingernail between the lens and the cover plate and flexing the cover plate until you can remove it. Remove the protective coating prior to installing the new cover plate. The front cover plate is HTP part# , and the inside cover plate is HTP part # CHANGING THE BATTERIES Your HTP Striker CFB uses two CR2450 3v lithium button cells. The batteries can last up to six years since the solar cell takes over once you start welding. The batteries are located on the inside of the helmet behind the Shade and Sensitivity adjustments. See figure 6 for removal of the batteries. Be sure to orient the battery correctly for positive and negative when you install a new battery. INSTALLING THE MAGNIFIER ADAPTER The figure to the right shows the magnifier adapter with a magnifier installed in the adapter. To install the magnifier adapter, remove the four Phillips head screws that hold in the ADF Retaining Frame. Remove the ADF Retaining Frame and replace it with the magnifier adapter. Replace the four Phillips head screws and you are finished. 5
