Jackie reminded everyone that the Annual AKC Dog show, is going to be October 22, 23, 24, 25 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. There is no charge, lots of opportunities to see all varieties of dogs. They feature agility and obedience trials as well. Things start usually around 9 ish and end around 4 ish. Jackie will be a photo vendor. The fall colors field trip was cancelled not for lack of interest, but because of the time frame and busy schedules. Most members made trips to Spearfish Canyon on their own. Colors were best before our scheduled field trip date.

New Business: We discussed the possibility of changing the name of BHPS. Jackie Lake gave a history of the society name. Discussion followed Jamie Heymans suggested that club was a more informal name Black Hills Photo Club. We do not have to be incorporated with the State, and no problem with filing with IRS. Darrell Fish also told us of an incident around 1975 about changing the name. Frankie suggested we us photography instead of photo. We will have to change our address and web site. We will have a vote on this change at the November meeting. The nominating committee of Carol Ness and Dave Vaughn, for 2011 officers gave a report: Ted Ayers President; Dennis Laughlin Vice President; Frankie Hofer Secretary; Krista Hofer Treasurer. Ted asked for additional nominations from the floor. Jackie made a motion that nominations cease; Dale seconded that motion; motion passed. Election of new officers will be held at the November meeting. Frankie brought the certificate of thanks from the Photography Division of the Central States Fair. BHPS donated cash awards for the best-of-class awards in three divisions for the 2010 Central States Fair. Dennis made a motion that the meeting be adjourned; Linda seconded; motion passed. Meeting adjourned. Ted presented a workshop Macro Photography. Hopefully everyone attending now understands the difference between true macro and not close-up photography. He brought lots of equipment and explained the different lenses, reversing rings, extension tubes, etc. We also had an unexpected fire drill in the middle of our lessons which delayed us for a time, because we had to exit the building. Objects were brought in for members to practice their newly learned skills. Dennis got a lot of good shots of the spider. Hopefully he shares at the next meeting a colorful fall spider. The next meeting will be held November 9th, 2010 same time, same place. November s club contest will be Fall Colors. Dennis also volunteered to have a Basic Camera Workshop at the November meeting.

November 09, 2010 The regular meeting of the Black Hills Photographic Society was held on November 09, 2010, at 7:00 pm in the third floor East Meeting Room at the City School Administration Center, 300 Sixth Street, with 20 members and 3 guests present. Ted welcomed new members and guests. Guest Harlan Humphrey said he found us on the internet. Eva Bareis met us through the Central States Fair and the Black Hills Photo Shootout. The meeting was called to order by President Ted Ayers. Ted asked for a moment of silence in remembrance of member Harry Blanks, who recently passed away. John made a motion to approve the minutes from the last meeting as read online; Dennis seconded; motion carried. Treasurer s Report: The previous balance was $458.50, and an addition of $27.00 in dues, leaving an ending balance of $ Old Business: Ted recently had conversations with Chad Coppess, who is making plans for next year s Shootout, and wants the club to be more involved. This year s event was sponsored by the State Tourism Department and Black Hills State University. Discussion was held about the possibilities of more involvement next year from our group. Ted offered to do another class on Maco for those that didn t attend or were not able to do hands on at the meeting. Ted announced that Eric said the url is still available for blackhillsphotoclub. Jackie made a motion for the name change to be Black Hills Photography Club. Motion was seconded by John, and the majority voted yes. Discussion was held on getting club t-shirts printed. Frankie will check on prices. Our new logo will be on the back and a first name printed on the front. Anyone interested should sign up on the list or Frankie with the request and size of t-shirt. Plans are also being made to print business cards with the new logo. Old Galleries not being used will be deleted. In order to access their Galleries, members need to remember their assigned passwords. It is not the same as the password to get the to members pages on the web site. New Business: New officers for 2011 were presented: Ted Ayers, President; Dennis Laughlin, Vice President; Frankie Hofer, Secretary; and Krista Hofer, Treasurer. No officers were contested. John made a motion to accept the slate of officers as presented; Banker seconded motion carried. Officers will be installed at the December meeting.

The awards for the photo contests held during the year will be presented at the December meeting. Sharon Blanks presented the memorial fund for Harry in the amount of $ Thank you Sharon and family. Frankie passed around a list for members to sign up for the Christmas supper who wants to bring what, and how many may be attending. We will plan to eat first at the meeting beginning at 6:00. Ted asked that members forward (10) images (in small files) to him so that he can make a slide show for the December meeting. His address is: treknted@gmail.com Dennis made a motion that the meeting be adjourned; John seconded; motion passed. Meeting adjourned. The subject for our contest for the meeting was fall colors. Ted won first in the slide category for composition; Betty took first for impact, and first for lighting. Ted took first for enhanced slides for composition, impact, and lighting. Betty took first in prints for composition and first for lighting; Dale took first for impact. Dennis presented a workshop Camera Basics. He suggested that the camera manual is a good thing. Your camera has buttons if you are not aware what they are for check out the manual. Even someone that has had their camera for awhile, probably can find new info in their manual. He gave a wonderful, informative slide show and had a handout for members. Thank you Dennis for your efforts. The next meeting will be held December 14th, We will meet at 6:00 in the break room at the West end of the same hall where we usually meet. We will have a potluck supper and a short meeting.

December 14, 2010 A potluck supper gathering of members and members families met at 6:00 in the Third Floor Break Room at the City School Administration Center, th Street, on December 14, Nineteen members attended, and seven guests. After the meal a short business meeting was held. The meeting was called to order by President Ted Ayers. New officers for the year 2011 were installed: President Ted Ayers, Vice President Dennis Laughlin, Secretary Frankie Hofer, and Treasurer Krista Hofer. Treasurer s Report: The previous balance was $ A deposit of $16.00 in dues was made, and disbursements of $50.00 for winners in the member contests during the year, left an ending balance of $ Krista deposited the money from the memorial fund for Harry in our savings account. The balance prior to that deposit was $25.00, and the addition of Harry s Memorial gave an ending balance of $ Winners for the member contests were: first $25.00 Ted Ayers; second $15.00 Betty Bonawitz; and third $10.00 to Sharon Blanks on behalf of Harry Blanks. Krista presented checks to the winners. Old Business: Frankie brought samples of t-shirts from Ponderosa Sportswear for members to check out for sizes. A signup list was distributed for members to add names and sizes for t-shirts. We will order at a later date. Ted offered to do another class on Macro for those that didn t attend or were not able to do hands on at the meeting. This second class will be held December 16 th in the first floor Community Room at the City School Administration Center from 7:00 9:00. That room has an outside entrance approximately in the center of the building facing the parking lot. New Business: Dakota Pride donated a box of Cashew Crunch candy to the club. We held a raffle drawing for 50 cents a chance. We took in $14.00 from this raffle. Harlan Humphrey was the winner of the candy. Discussion was held that maybe we would do some type of fund raiser at regular meetings, either similar to this or a 50/50 drawing. Krista presented the plans for the new year in reference to the member competitions. Next year we will have a single judge vs. members voting on all the entries. Each member will determine which level they feel that would best describe their photographic abilities: novice, amateur, advanced amateur, or master. Judging will be done at each of the levels for both prints

and slides. s and posting to the web site will be made to describe these new details, so that members can view this. The next meeting will be held January 11, 2011 back in the East Meeting Room Third Floor CSAC, at 7:00. January s club contest theme will be Pictorial images that depict scenes such as landscapes, waterscapes, and scenic views. Cutoff time for submissions will be Friday, January 7 th, and can be ed to bhphotoclub@hotmail.com
