4 Architecture, light and perspective The spacious foyer: a place to meet and tarry The architecture of our house is a work of art that comes to life through light and perspective, whereby an inward orientation to the atrium, which affords stability, combines with a great outward openness. The extensive window area enables eye and thought to roam at liberty to new horizons. The centre is fully equipped with modern seminar facilities and is tailored to international needs, as is the hotel with 55 single rooms and its own excellent restaurant. Landscape, nature, architecture and equipment merge to create a unique environment, providing ideal conditions for intensive, concentrated and creative work.

InWEnt is supported in its mission by the Free State of Bavaria, who put this house, built in 1982, at our disposal. We have been using it since then as an international conference centre. Every year, more than 900 executives from all over the world take advantage of InWEnt s specialised seminars on human resources and organisational development. Access to three conference rooms, each of 130 m_, and four meeting/working group rooms. Up-to-date media and seminar technology, film-projection equipment, as well as computer cubicles with Internet access support you in your work. An interpreting system with three speaker booths enables a dialogue across language barriers.

The following places of historic and cultural interest are all within easy reach of our centre: the Andechs, Benediktbeuren, Polling, Dießen, Rottenbuch, Schlehdorf and Wessobrunn monasteries; the castles of Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, and the Schachenhaus (the mountain holiday home of the Bavarian King Ludwig II); as well as the rural open-air museum in Glentleiten near Kochel.

Moreover, Munich, city of art, dazzles with its three Pinakotheken (museums and art galleries), the Lenbach-Haus (former villa of the painter-prince, Fürst Lenbach) and the Villa-Stuck (former home of the painter Franz von Stuck). Prints of paintings by Franz Marc and his friends have been hung in each of our guestrooms as an homage to the art group Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider), and as an example of this aspect of our learning environment. Münter, Werefkin and Campendonk were also members of the Blue Rider Group, which was founded in 1911 and named after a painting by Wassily Kandinsky. The large format of the Bavarian landscape, the Alpine silhouette, the clear colours and intense light inspired the artists in their work, and they produced paintings which move from portraying Nature as it is, through allegory, and on to the abstract. Many of their paintings depict motifs found in the landscape around our centre.
