Register for a course with your credit card anytime, day or night. We are located in the historic artist community of Tubac, AZ, about 40 miles south of Tucson. We look forward to your visit.

Visit our website Juried Show Opportunity Tubac Chamber of Commerce is seeking applications from Southern Arizona Artists for a themed temporary art exhibit from Feb 3-May 2, 2019 at the Tucson International Airport! Opportunity to Publish Your Art This is a request for a SRAL volunteer. If you can or want to meet his criteria for drawings, please contact Nancy Wesorick at nawesorick@gmail.com I am looking for someone who could produce black and white images to be included in an anthology book of poetry for the Tucson Poetry Society. We need eight to ten prints for the book. Because the book is for the Tucson Poetry Society, we would like images that are iconic or representative of the Tucson area and Sonoran Desert. For example, a mission, A- Mountain, The Barrio, a Sabino or Madera Canyon landscape, an animal or plant found in the desert. To be sure there are many possibilities. Maybe you have a member that already has a portfolio containing some suitable images. Again, the image must be in black and white or can be successfully rendered into black and white. Thanks for your help, Steve Chaffee Tucson Poetry Society

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS ABSTRACT BRIGGade The upcoming monthly meeting of the Abstract group will be on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 9:30 am in the SRAL Studio. Our get together is always open to all SRAL members even if they re just curious. Your winter visitors are also always invited! Come join us for the fun of looking over the art pieces that our members are working on (maybe the Briggs?) Bring something along to share (there is no special challenge for this month) and we will learn from each others! Also, Bonnie Nelson will demo her abstract painting style using a squeegee tool. Nan Lux, Chair COLLAGE MIXED MEDIA The Collage Mixed Media Group meets on the First and Third Wednesdays of every month in the Main Studio unless there is a class being presented and we then meet in Studio A.

DESERT DOODLERS The Desert Doodler Group provides a venue for anyone interested in challenging their creative spirit through doodling: repetitive, meditative lines and patterns. We share doodling ideas, techniques and materials information and provide encouragement and support in a relaxed, social environment. The group meets most Wednesdays from 1:00 to 3:00 in the studio. Contact Pat Chaloux ( ) for more information. FIGURE DRAWING The Figure Drawing group is in full swing. We hire models, sometimes nude, to pose for us in the studio. We meet the first Saturday of each month through May. Any medium, any level are welcome. We charge $5 for each artist for the session to help pay for the model. We meet 9am to noon. Please consider joining us. It is a fantastic way to learn and a terrific value. Hope to see you there. Any questions about this program please contact Nanci Sheppard at nancis@srart.org or (541) OIL PAINTERS of the ART LEAGUE There will be no OPAL meetings during December. OPAL holds art sessions on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from October to April, 9am to noon, in the SRAL main studio. There is no cost to participants all instructors volunteer their time to help the artists. The group is open to all Art League members interested in pursuing their love of creating fine art with oil paints. New this season will be OPAL s first, Fine Art Extravaganza, which will be held at the Desert Hills Social Center during the month of February. Artists plan to show their finest works for all to enjoy. Any member who wants to learn more about oil painting is certainly welcome to attend the sessions we would love to have you. For more information about the OPAL group go to Opal. PASTEL GROUP The SRAL Pastel Group meets on the first and third Monday of each month in the main studio from 9 am - 12 pm. One of the lesser known mediums but one of the most vibrant, versatile, forgiving and proven to stand up to the test of time, soft pastels have become my favorite, as it was with some great old masters - Degas, Monet and Renoir to name a few. Our members meet to support each other, to work independently, to share their knowledge, tips and techniques and to make friends. Come join us and discover the great properties this medium has to offer. The following website does a fabulous job of introducing soft pastels - PLEIN AIR

We are up and running with the Plein Air Painters. We meet Thursday mornings...any medium, any level, to paint scenes all over Southern Arizona. We have a great schedule on our website under Groups/Plein Air. We also post the monthly schedule in the studio. We hope to see more artists join us, even if you have never painted plein air before. Anyone can enjoy new places and the outdoors because we have so much fun. We often have lunch after the session and provide carpools at the meet point. Any questions about this program please contact Nanci Sheppard at nancis@srart.org or (541) PORTRAIT The Portrait Group which meets every Tuesday from one to three is looking for volunteer models. We have a very comfortable chair and music. Promise it s interesting to see the various artists work. PRINT GUILD The Printmakers Guild will meet on Thursday January 24 at 9:30 AM in Room A, SRAL Studio. This month our topic is Something NEW to go with the New Year. Joyce Fearnside will get us started. Bring an idea (new technique, new material whatever you might think of), and we will go from there. Everyone is encouraged to work on art for our SRAL Print Show at Desert Hills, March All are welcome. WATERCOLOR The SRAL Watercolor Group meets on Fridays from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. Sharon Irish and Brian Bauman will continue to open the facilities for the SRAL Watercolor Group in the absence of Vera Anderson this summer and fall. This is an informal group where individuals develop and paint their own watercolor pictures. We do not critique, but if you come to a place where you want some input there is always someone to ask. We welcome beginners as well as those who have painted for years. The SRAL Library also has many books on Watercolor for your reference. Bring your name tag, paints and join us! What we do JOYCE S CORNER Our SRAL mission is to promote... awareness, appreciation and development of talent for all two dimensional fine art forms. Promoting... SANTA RITA ART LEAGUE 2019 January through the next few months is traditionally the beginning of the busiest time of year for us. Because there are so many members here during this time there are more opportunities to enliven your creative life. Our members are very generous to share their talents.

It seems to me there are at least four good ways to find something of interest to you. # one is to simply go to the Studio. There will most likely be someone painting or a group meeting. Explore, talk to people, ask questions, observe the group. You are always welcome there! # two is to check the website Almost everything you might want to know is available on this very user friendly site. # three is to watch for and read the E-blast that is ed to members two times each month to keep you up with the latest news about us. # four is to come to the General Meetings at 1 pm each month in the Anza Room of the Santa Rita Springs Social Center for a monthly program presented by outstanding and talented artists just for us. You will also find a place to exhibit and see the latest pieces of work. Refreshments are served and not to forget, the nicest and most interesting membership anywhere to meet. Joyce
