2 FR I E N DS E V E NT S Join us for our 24th Annual Members Show, December 8, 9, 15, and 16, 2019 Info: soon to be announced, yellowbarnstudio.com Drop off Thursday, December 6, 4-7pm Dan Riesmeyer is this year s Member Show Judge. He earned his B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art where he studied with Mark Karnes and his M.F.A. from the Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Art at Indiana University. Currently, Dan Riesmeyer resides in Maryland and teaches as an instructor at Montgomery College, Anne Arundel Community College and Maryland Institute College of Art. Daniel Riesmeyer will be teaching painting this spring at the Yellow Barn Studio. Fidelity to perception (both to my outer and inner worlds) is my chief concern. I can't help but draw from my own experiences but I want the initial impulses for each painting to be a starting point and not something that I simply illustrate. I think this is one of the most beautiful aspects of genuine artistic expression - a painting can come from a very personal interior space while saying something that transcends our limited scope. The Friends of the Yellow Barn will be sponsoring our Annual Friends of the Yellow Barn Studio Members Show. This juried exhibition is open to all members of the Friends of the Yellow Barn. A closing Awards Reception for the exhibition will be held on Sunday, December 16th from 4:00-6:00 pm. Our judge for this year s show is Daniel Riesmeyer. This year Plaza Artist Materials will sponsor the $500 Best of Show Award, $250 Mitzi Fuller Award, 3rd place awards of $100 and five $50 honorable mentions Reminder: To enter, drop off your entry December 6, 4-7pm. Info on submitting work will soon be available: yellowbarnstudio.com YELLOW BARN STUDIO 7300 MACARTHUR BLVD. GLEN ECHO, MARYLAND 20812
3 NE W S Focus on New Yellow Barn Instructors DANIEL RIESMEYER Daniel Riesmeyer will be teaching courses on painting from observation. Daniel Riesmeyer was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and received his BFA from The Maryland Institute College of Art and MFA from Indiana University in Bloomington. Although new to the Yellow Barn Studio, He has taught courses in Drawing, Painting, Art History, Color, and Design at Montgomery College, Howard Community College, The Academy Art Museum in Eason, and is currently an adjunct faculty member at both Anne Arundel Community College and the Maryland Institute College of Art. The intersection between observation, the imagination, and memory lies at the foundation his own personal work and is core element of the courses he teaches. In the class room, Daniel believes in personalized instruction and thinking through the process of making - where his role is to guide both technically and conceptually in order to prepare students to be independent creative problem-solvers. JAMES VISSARI James Vissari teaches drawing classes and sketch book workshops for beginners and intermediate students. James attended the Corcoran School of Art, Montgomery College, and the University of Maryland. Currently, he is the President of the Montgomery Art Association in Kensington, MD. James pieces span from two-inch paintings to murals to pen and ink works produced in plein air and in public spaces. Influenced by Impressionists artists and landscapes as well as realist artists, James is tenacious and prolific in the pursuit and production of artwork. He has a weekly art blog called "Letters to Vincent." James Vissari will be teaching drawing courses at the Yellow Barn Studio YELLOW BARN STUDIO 7300 MACARTHUR BLVD. GLEN ECHO, MARYLAND 20812
