3 Item 3 JACOBEAN BLACKWORK Framed Bordered Tile - Miriam de Lacy Blackwork became popular in England during the reign of Henry VIII. This technique was introduced by Catherine of Aragon from her native Spain, where this type of embroidery had its roots in the Islamic art of the Moors. It features small, intricate stitches of a geometric design. Dimensions: Approx 40cm x 25cm (16 x 10 ) Item 4 JACOBEAN CREWEL WORK Framed Panels - Miriam de Lacy Jacobean Crewel work usually features wool but silks and fine metallic threads have been used in these pieces. This technique of embroidery developed after the Protestant Reformation when there was reduced demand for ecclesiastical embroidery. It reached its peak in popularity during the reign of James I.
