2 About this Scarf Usually, I'm one of those knitters who love to knit garments or shawls but cannot knit a scarf to save my life. All that repetitive knitting in one long straight line just cannot keep my interest. Enter stage right: the Sampler Scarf, with its changing stitch patterns this scarf knits up amazingly quicker than expected and stays interesting. I hope you enjoy knitting the Sampler Scarf for yourself or a handsome man as much as I did! Measurements Finished this scarf measures 22cm by 210cms. Tension is not essential for this scarf but if you would like a general guide, I used a 10ply which had a tension of 18 sts and 27 rows over stocking stitch on a 10cm by 10cm square using 5.00mm needles. Materials 5.00mm needles. 4 x 50g (100m) balls of 8ply wool. (I used Zitron Nimbus Organic Merino, 50g (100m), 100% Merino Wool) Cable Needle Wool needle. (For sewing in ends). Stitch Markers Abbreviations: C16B Slip 8 sts onto cable needle and hold at the back of the work. (K1tbl, P1) 4 times from left needle, then (K1tbl, P1) 4 times from cable needle. Cont - Continue K - Knit P - Purl P3tog - Purl three stitches together. patt - pattern pm - place marker R - Row Rep - repeat Sl 1 - slip one stitch. 3 Pattern Cast on 36 sts. The first and last 2 sts will be knitted in garter st. the whole scarf (4 sts in total). The pattern sts will be worked over the centre 32 sts. To help remind yourself, place markers after the first two and before the last two stitches so you remember to always knit them and only pattern the centre 32 sts with the 12 stitch sections listed below 1. Garter St Section: R1-8: K. 2. Basketweave Section: R1: *K4, P4 rep from * to end. R2: *P4, K4 rep from * to end. Rep rows 1 to 2, 2 more times. R7: *P4, K4 rep from * to end. R8: *K4, P4 rep from * to end. Rep rows 7 to 8, 2 more times. Rep rows 1 to 8, 4 more times. (40 rows in total). 3. Garter Stitch Ridges: R1: K R2: P R3: K R4: K R5: P R6: K Rep rows 1 to 6, 2 more times. R19: K R20: P 4. Reverse Cable and Garter Stitch Section: R1: K6, pm, (K1tbl, P1) 8 times, pm, K14.
