3 Materials: From National Nonwovens WoolFelt Throwbacks & Beginnings color series: o Columbia Blue 7 x 7 piece o Ocean Kelp -- 7 x 7 piece o Native Maize -- 7 x 6 piece o Opal -- 3 x 2 piece # 676 DMC Six-Strand Embroidery Floss (use three strands at a time). Large-eyed chenille needle, straight pins, scissors, freezer paper, pen or pencil, iron. Instructions: Trace all pattern pieces onto freezer paper and cut out. Using the freezer paper templates, cut the pieces from the WoolFelt in the numbers and colors indicated on the patterns. To use the freezer paper templates, place them shiny side down on the WoolFelt. Set the iron to the wool setting with no steam; the iron must be dry. Iron the freezer paper onto the WoolFelt, pressing down for a few seconds until the freezer paper sticks. To assemble the Needle/Pin Case: o Layer the leaf and flower pieces on top of one of the Columbia Blue hexagons as indicated in Figure B. (Note the orientation of the hexagon as shown in Figure A.) o With the 676 floss, blanket stitch the center of the flower only, sewing through all the layers, as shown in Figure B. 4 o o Place an Ocean Kelp hexagon behind the appliqued Columbia Blue cover. With the 676 floss, blanket stitch together along the three sides shown in Figure C, leaving the left-most side unsewn. Set aside. Layer the other Ocean Kelp hexagon on top of the other Columbia Blue hexagon. (The Ocean Kelp side should be facing up; this will be the inside of the back cover.) With the 676 floss, blanket stitch together along the three sides as shown in Figure D, leaving the left-most side unsewn. Posy Sewing Accessories Page 3

5 o o Layer the two covers, with the posy on top, and place the Native Maize hexagon page in between. The inside front cover and inside back cover should be the Ocean Kelp WF. The outside front cover and outside back cover should be the Columbia Blue WF. (See photo of inside below Figure E.) With the 676 floss, blanket stitch along the unsewn left edge, sewing through all layers as shown in Figure E. Posy Sewing Accessories Page 4

7 To assemble the Scissors Case: o Layer the leaf and flower pieces on top of one of the Columbia Blue triangles as indicated in Figure A. o With the 676 floss, blanket stitch the center of the flower only sewing through all the layers, as shown in Figure A. o Place the other Columbia Blue triangle behind the appliqued cover. With the 676 floss, blanket stitch along the three sides sewing through both layers as shown in Figure B. Posy Sewing Accessories Page 6

8 o When you reach the top, blanket stitch across one of the triangles only. Then, flip the piece over and blanket stitch across the other triangle top to finish. Make sure you do not sew the two triangles together at the top. (See Figures C & D.) Posy Sewing Accessories Page 7
