2 INSTRUCTIONS: Trace applique shapes onto fusible web. Cut out just outside drawn lines. Place on corresponding wools and iron. Cut out on drawn lines. Remove paper and place on center of 8 square. Cut stems 1 /8 wide using rotary cutter and ruler. Iron using steam. Blanket-stitch using matching threads. 3-strand floss Valdani 0575, 0775 and P5, use only 1 strand. Do not trim block it will be trimmed in part 2 instructions. Stitch-Along Part 2 HST - Half Square Triangles FABRICS NEEDED: 2 x 7-3 different Red fabrics for HST 2 x 7-3 different Green fabrics for HST 7 x 12 - Tan with Green for HST 4 x 4 - Yellow fabric for

4 Stitch-Along Part 2 HST - Half Square Triangles FABRICS NEEDED: 2 x 7-3 different Red fabrics for HST 2 x 7-3 different Green fabrics for HST 7 x 12 - Tan with Green for HST 4 x 4 - Yellow fabric for 4 corners - Sub-cut into 4-1½ x 1½ squares 2 x 35 or 3½ x 20 or 7 x 10 Brown fabric for border Sub-cut into 2-1½ x 8½ strips and 2-1½ x 6½ strips Center wool block (from part 1) - trim to 6½ x 6½ 1 Triangle Paper INSTRUCTIONS: Layer each Tan 2 x 7 rectangle with a different Green or Red rectangle RST, with Tan on top. Layer each with a strip of 1 finished triangle paper and proceed to make 6 HST units. Border instructions apply to both versions 1 Triangles Primitive Gatherings *NOTE: Triangle Paper has been included in our kits. If you would like to purchase Triangle Paper from us please visit our website. You will need 1 finished Triangle Paper. If you choose not to use the triangle paper, you will need to cut your squares 1⅞ from each fabric in the quilt. Proceed to use the method of your choice in making your half square triangles. We strongly suggest using the Half Square Triangle paper as they are very accurate, fast and easy to use. HST units will measure 1½. Triangle paper stitching instructions: Cut apart sections according to pattern. Lower stitch length to about ½ your normal stitch length. Stitch on dashed lines. Cut apart on all solid lines including the edges. Press triangles to the dark triangle. Remove paper - pulling from the center of the triangle papers, not the ends. Cut dog ears off. HST are ready to piece into units. 1 Triangles 1 Triangles Primitive Gatherings Primitive Gatherings Diagram shown with 1 x 3 paper strip of HST Trim the wool appliqué center to a 6½ x 6½ square then add the 1½ x 6½ Brown side borders. Continue to stitch the 1½ x 8½ borders to the top and bottom. Stitch together 8 HST alternating with Green and Red. Refer to diagram for direction of the HST and the alternating colors. Stitch 2 Yellow squares to each end of the top and bottom HST borders. Attach the side HST borders and proceed by stitching the top and bottom HST borders. 6 Stitch-Along Part 3 FABRICS NEEDED: 3rd Border 6-2 x 12 tans - cut into 1½ x 2½ - 4 from each print 4th Border Flying Geese and Flower Cornerstones 4 x 44 red print for geese - cut into 12-3¼ x 3¼ squares 2-4½ x 25 green prints for geese background - cut into /8 x 1 7/8 squares (24 from each green) 3 x 11 tan print for applique background - cut into 4-2½ x 2½ squares WOOLS NEEDED: 2½ x 8 Christmas wool for 4 flowers 2 x 3 Sage wool for 16 leaves 1 x 2½ Sunflower wool for 4 flower centers Threads used: 1 strand of 3SF-078, P5 and 0575 Stich 2 sets of 5-1½ x 2½ tan fabrics together end to end. Stitch to sides of HST border. Stitch 2 sets of 6-1½ x 2½ tan fabrics together end to end. Stitch to top and bottom of HST border. MAKING FLYING GEESE: Make 48 flying geese units using the directions below: Cut 12-3¼ squares of Red fabric Cut 48-1⅞ squares of dark fabric With right sides of fabric together, lay two of the smaller squares on the larger square, as shown. Using a ruler or quick quarter, draw 2 diagonal lines ¼ from center diagonal. Stitch on both drawn lines. Cut apart on the center diagonal line. Press seams toward green fabric. Draw 2 diagonal lines, ¼ away from center diagonal, on wrong side of smaller square. With right sides together, lay one of the marked squares on the sewn unit and stitch both drawn lines. Cut apart on center diagonal. Repeat with the remaining unit and the remaining smaller square.

7 Stitch flying geese units together in sets of three, see quilt diagram. Stitch 4 sets of 3 flying geese units together. Stitch a set to each side of the 3rd border. Stitch 2-2½ tan squares to each end of the last two sets of flying geese borders. Stitch to top and bottom of the 3rd border. Note: If your unit is not the same size as the border you are attaching it to Pin the intersections and place the side that is bigger against your feed dogs, this will gather up the excess more evenly. Trace the correct amount of applique pieces onto fusible web. Draw a box of how big your wool is on your fusible to make sure you can fit your shapes in. Cut out the fusible shapes ⅛ around the perimeter of the outside of your drawn shapes. Do not cut them out individually. Cut them as a group. Remove paper and place fusible on wool and iron. Cut out wool shapes on the drawn lines. Remove paper and place appliqué shapes onto the 2½ tan squares. Make sure to keep the appliqué shapes inside the outer ¼ seam allowances. Press with steam. Blanket stitch the applique shapes with 1 strand of 3-stranded floss. Cut 16 Leaves Cut 4 Cut 4 Shapes are Reversed

8 PIECED StItCh ALoNG VERSIoN 3RD BoRDER: 3 - red prints 2 x 12 - Cut into 1½ x 2½ - 4 from each print 3 - black prints 2 x 12 - Cut into 1½ x 2½ - 4 from each print 4th BoRDER: Flying geese and 2 Star blocks 4 x 44 red print for geese - cut into 12-3¼ x 3¼ squares 2-2½ x 25 tan prints for geese background - cut into 48-1⅞ x 1⅞ squares (24 from each tan) StAR BLoCKS 4-2 x 8 black prints From each black print cut: 1-1½ x 1½ block centers and 4-1⅜ x 1⅜ star points flying geese 6 x 11 tan print Cut into 4-2¼ x 2¼ squares for flying geese 16-1 x 1 block corners. 2 CoRNER StAR BLoCK - press seams open See instructions on the first page to make your flying geese. Stitch 2 of the 4 black and tan flying geese units to each side of the black center 1½ x 1½ square. Continue by stitching together 2-1 x 1 tan squares to each side of the remaining 2 black and tan flying geese and attach to the top and bottom of the center.
