1 The Pine Needle Press Volume 30 Issue 11! Pine Tree Quilt Guild December A newsletter of the Pine Tree Quilt Guild of Nevada County, having taken root in the fabric of the Grass Valley community since Published monthly except August Banner Mine Way, Nevada City December President s Message I cannot believe how quickly this year has just flown by. It seems like yesterday, when I was nervously preparing for my first Guild meeting, and now we are getting ready for the Guild Christmas Party! I want to take a few moments to thank everyone for their hard work and support.you are just a terrific group of people!!! It has been my privilege to meet and work with many of you this year on all of our various activities and projects. This has been a tremendous learning experience and has given me a new appreciation for all that is needed to keep our Guild growing and vital. I hope everyone will come to our celebration on Dec. 3, to enjoy an evening of fun and friendship. Judy Hamilton and her crew are busy as little elves, creating decorations, wrapping prizes, and planning some exciting games, and we know the food will be fantastic! Of course, the new year will be a special one for PTQG, as we celebrate our 30th anniversary. This year's quilt show will be one to remember, with some special events designed to honor and commemorate our founders, as well as our current members. In closing, my wish for you is to have a joyous and peaceful holiday season, doing everything that you love, whether it be baking cookies with your grandchildren, sewing those beautiful quilts, or drinking a cup of warm cider while watching your favorite Hallmark Christmas movie. Just remember to take some time for yourself to refresh and renew. Joan Mosley IMPORTANT! By-Laws Changes As Vice-President of the Guild one of my responsibilities is to review the By-Laws and Policies to see if any changes are necessary. This is done in the odd numbered years. I organized a committee to accomplish this. It is only a requirement to have the Quilt Guild Board review and approve the Policy changes which was done at our November meeting. These changes will be reflected in the 2014 Membership Roster. The proposed By-Law changes must be published in advance of the January meeting and approved by the general membership. You will find these proposed changes in this December newsletter. Please acquaint yourself with these changes and be ready to vote in January. Thanks for your support! Barbara Ceresa BY--LAWS changes are on pages 3, 4 and 5.

9 The Pine Needle Press!!!!!! Page 9 January s Speaker Cindy Needham As you learned in last month s newsletter, Cindy Needham will be our speaker for January. On January 7th Cindy Needham who is a master machine quilter will be with us to speak about Thread, Facts and Fiction. She will also be bringing her Open Thread Bar to the workshop the next day. She will educate us on how to use and all types of threads in your machine regardless of the manufacturer. If you have threads you are having trouble with, please bring those to the workshop so she can help you to troubleshoot. Judy Vaughn, Program Chair Cindy has a website with many hints for making your quilting experience much easier. She has a downloadable pdf that is entitled, These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things... It has a list of tools she uses and some look pretty helpful. It is on her home page under Free Handouts... The picture to the left shows a pin holder, and scissor magnet that she uses on her machine, so where to put the pins is not a problem, and her scissors are always at hand. Check it out on her website at Her workshop on Wednesday, January 8th, will be on threads. Here s what she has to say about threads in the download... One of my favorite subjects! Many of you know that I am a National Educator for Superior Threads and I love traveling around the country teaching my students how to easily use all types of threads in their machines...regardless of the manufacturer. I use Superior Threads for all of my hand and machine quilting needs as I feel they are the best thread manufacturer on the market. The threads I use the most are: Bottom Line, So Fine, Highlights, Kimono Silk and Superior Metallic. Look for these threads in your local quilt store or you may go on-line to: Also visit their education section for loads of great information on threads and sign up for their on-line newsletter. She also has a class on Crafty.com that takes one through the quilting process...a good reference tool for the beginner or review for the more experienced! Sign up for her workshop on the 8th and hear her first hand as she shares her knowledge of threads and answers your questions concerning your issues with them...
