First, stabilize the entire wrong side of the pieced fabric with Fusible No-Show Mesh Stabilizer. Next, use the Hydro-stick Tear-away Stabilizer rather than hooping the fabric. Simply hoop the stabilizer and adhere the fabric to the sticky area of the stabilizer. Economize by using stabilizer on a roll. Instead of cutting the stabilizer to the size of the hoop, keep the stabilizer on the roll when you hoop. After embroidering the first section, carefully tear away the fabric from the stabilizer. Give the stabilizer a quick press to smooth out the wrinkles from the first hooping. Then rehoop the next section of stabilizer and continue embroidering. Helpful tips for embroidering with Lana and Cotona Thread: -Use the recommended size 100 topstitch needles for the Lana thread. Size 90 needles are recommended for the Cotona thread, but we didn t always remember to switch to a 90 and the Cotona did stitch with the size Slow the machine s stitching speed to its slowest setting. -Loosen the upper thread tension slightly, ensuring the bobbin thread doesn t pull too much Lana thread under the fabric. -If your machine has an automatic thread trimming feature, you may wish to turn it off and hand-trim. This keeps Lana thread ends from building up in the trimming mechanism. -At the beginning of each thread stitching, hold the thread tail on top of the hooped fabric; take a few stitches, then trim the tail close to the fabric. This helps keep the underside of the embroidery neat and lessens the chance of thread nests. -Clean out the machine s bobbin case and surrounding area well and often. We were amazed to find how quickly the lint built up. Any time the thread broke, we made certain to remove the embroidery hoop from the machine and carefully clean the bobbin area. We even found lint built up around the bobbin thread where it draws from the bobbin case. Keep your owner s manual handy to properly clean your machine. All design components are pictured on the following pages. Use these images as guides for placement of designs; depending on the size or style variation of the cardigan pattern you are embroidering, you may wish to enlarge or adjust positions. Each grouping indicates the order in which the various designs making up that grouping should be stitched. Design placement and alignment tip: To ensure proper placement and alignment of designs, we recommend that you print templates for each of the designs used (as noted on the following page) and arrange the embroidery composition on the cardigan piece. Although you can use conventional printer paper to print templates, using Translucent Foundation Paper will allow you to see through the paper, making it easier to align the designs. Be sure to trim away excess paper around stitch field for easier arranging. Remove excess stabilizer according to stabilizer instructions, after embroidering each section. All designs were enlarged 120% prior to any design editing. Use printed templates to aid you in alignment and rotation.
