1 Published by The Irving Quilt Guild, Inc. June, 2012 Volume 4, Issue 1 It s Over Two years ago when we started planning this show (Splish! Splash!), we thought this day would never come. It is over and it was a success. The talent in our guild is amazing. The growth of the workmanship from show to show, WHOW! Congratulations to all of the winners. Where do I start to thank everyone for making this show a success. First let me start with my cochair, Susan Turk who is phenomenal. She is so organized and made sure everything came off on schedule. Thanks to Janie, Kristi, and Bonnie for monitoring the judges and the calculation of the ribbon winners. Nancy and Susan Holt for managing the admissions table and coordinating the volunteers. Lori for chairing the mini quilt auction and to all of you that contributed a mini for the auction. Linda a big thank you for working so hard to promote the raffle quilt. In only six months it brought in what might be a record amount. Now, Linda the pressure is on, what are you doing for the next raffle quilt? The show committee was great to work with. Each committee person took on their job diligently and never said no to their task. We could never have a successful show without our vendors. They were all complimentary of our show and most of all, our guild members. They all indicated they wanted to participate in our next show. A special thanks to all of the husbands, relatives, etc for helping with the tear down. But most of all let me say special thanks to all of our members for their support and participation at the show. Without you, this show could not go on. But now it is time to move on and start thinking about the next show. Consider getting involved, it is your show. Again, THANK YOU. Jerry Bowen Co-Chairperson Splish Splash 2012 How wonderful it was to see all the quilts from our ladies and Gentlemen in our Guild. And a few outsiders. The talent gets better and better with each passing show. As it should. It also specks volumes about our guild and how close we are and that we share our talents and knowledge with our friends and sisters of the Irving Quilt Guild. It is my blessing to have such friends in my life. I hope we met our goals with this show, if not I think it was still a GREAT success. Our best show yet! It ran so smooth because of all the hard work and the members working together for our success. Pats on the backs of everyone!!! Love to all, Kristi Wilson Guild member

4 Quilt Entries Weren t all the quilts beautiful? I want to thank everyone who entered quilts in the show. We had a total of 116 entries. For some of you this was the first time you entered a quilt. I hope the experience was good and you will enter more in the future. It s always fun to show your friends and family what you have accomplished and why we have such a passion for quilting. Our members are so diversified not only in their techniques used but their color selection. It s exciting to see the same pattern done in different colors and look so different. All the entries were great. We should all be proud of our work. So now is the time to start working on those entries for Janie Merritt Entries Stars Over Texas is the theme for 2014 quilt show Well the show is behind us and I know we all had a lot of fun. I think the members did a wonderful job (as usual) to make sure the show was a success. Your quilts were beautiful so thank you so much for sharing them. Now here are the totals for the sales at the show: DVD S $ BAGS $ RAFFLE TICKETS $ The raffle sales is really not part of the show but since we sold tickets they just wanted to let you know the total for ticket sales. We have 16 more bags and then we will be out so do not miss out on a great bag. I want to thank everyone that helped sell the tickets at the show. You did a great job. And the winner of the 2012 raffle quilt is Vicki Roener. Congratulations Vicki!! Thank you, Linda Scott Three Cheers for the Volunteers! Thank you so much for being part of our team. We shared one of the easier committee chairman jobs starting with your eagerness to sign up which helped us get the schedules completed in a good time frame. The willingness with which everyone did whatever they were asked to do was invaluable as it kept the show running smoothly. Everyone s upbeat attitude whether it was at the admissions table, giving a vendor a much needed break or being there for the show visitors by showing quilt backs or answering questions was terrific. Your spirit of cooperation and fun helped form friendships for which we are so grateful! Splashes of thanks to everyone! Susan and Nancy Now it is time to start your next show quilt. June 13 &
5 What a great Ride! Did anyone else think the 2012 Irving Quilt Show was similar to a roller coaster ride? Or was it just me? We had some highs, lows and unexpected turns and at the end of the ride, it turned out to be a great ride. We had some scary moments with Ken s eye sight the week prior to the show. Ken was in charge of Judges, so the Day of Judging was full of unexpected surprises and some heroic volunteers (Thanks Kristi, Sue G, Janie, Bonnie and Jerry B). Judges needed scribes, Mayor, Dallas Morning News and Vendors arrived. After the dust settled, we realized the Best of Show had a second place ribbon. The entire time, I kept hearing Jerry B reassuring me, Remember, this is going to be a no stress Show. Friday Morning, we heard that Donna s father passed away. Evelyn W picked up the pieces and took care of the Show Signs. Vendors and Customers were showing up and the CDs could not be copied. And the final kicker, Carol became the janitor and trash hauler since the trash was over flowing. Overall, there are many unsung heroes in our guild and I am proud to be part of such a talented, flexible and giving Guild. I want to thank the Guild members for your generous help and your participation with making quilts which made the Show a great success. I would like to also Thank the Show Committee who put many hours outside of the show: Susan Holt for Admissions with assistance from Sandra Barton, Nancy Norris for Volunteers and Pictures, Janie Merritt for Entries with assistance from Carol Cook, Lori Vauble for Mini Quilt Auction, Linda Scott for Merchandising, Judy Poole for Programs, Sue Gray for Door Prizes with assistance from Alene Winn, Donna Reid for Publication, Ken Moore for Judging, Sonya Bilbrey for Hospitality. Finally, Jerry Bowen, I would like to thank you for being patient with me and providing guidance and continual reminding me of our No Stress Show motto. I will be the Chair for the 2014 Irving Quilt Show, Stars over Texas. If you are interested in being part of the Best Little Quilt Show in Texas, please let me know. The more people we have involved, the easier it is on every one. Susan Turk
6 SPLISH SPLASH 2012 MINI QUILT AUCTION $ $ $ $ is the final amount we raised from the Mini Quilt Auction. Great job to everyone that contributed!! I must thank Judy Poole & Carol Cook for not only hanging the mini quilts for me but also for Raking in all the Ribbons. This of course added to the money we raised What beautiful quilts they were. Sonya Bilbrey won the Mayor s Mini Ribbon and from what I heard through the grapevine, the Mayor fell in love with the little Americana Snowman. He was adorable. I couldn t have managed the auction without the help of Evelyn Banks, who managed to sell more BUY IT NOW when I was gone. What incentive for me to go shopping. Thank you very much Evelyn I appreciate your help so much. There were several really beautiful entries that brought us top dollar and it seemed the smaller quilts, with much more piecing involved is what caught everyone attention. Beautiful work everyone and thank you all again for your contribution to the Guild. Lori Vauble Quilt Show 2012 To all my PEEPS who generously volunteered with the put-up and take-down of the quilts for our show, I want to thank you very, very much for the excellent job you did. I want to send a big thank you to the husbands and sons who didn t really have to help but came anyway (or never eat a home cooked meal again!) and to Judy s two very tall grandchildren, Shane and Sarah, for hanging about 3/4ths of the quilts on Wednesday. What sweet and hard working kids they are. All this extra help made this job run smoothly. For all the guild members who gave of their time and efforts, I want to compliment you on how quickly the take down was accomplished with no major problems. The quilts were turned in to the check out group and the clean up was done in no time. Thanks for the help loading all the various equipment into the truck for return to the Dallas Guild. It is so awesome to work with all these experienced ladies who return and help show after show. Just having all that know-how around made my job a breeze. Again, thank all of you for your hard work!! You re the greatest!! Carol Cook The Other Half I have tried to send the show newsletter out by but it is so big it will not go. It was 37 pages, so I cut it to 27 and it still would not go. Now it is at 22 pages and guess what. Still to big. I cut it into two parts of 11 pages each and still it will not go so here is the short version. If you want to see the whole newsletter go to the website and download it. Have a good book to read because it will take about 10 minutes to download. Or you can buy the CD and it has all the pictures on it and the ribbon winners. Its only $5.00 and they will have them at the guild meeting. Thanks. Judy
