1 Easy Reversible Microwave Cozy Combo Pattern Easy Reversible Microwave Cozy Supplies 2 10 sq. pieces of 100% cotton fabric* 2 9 sq. pieces of 100% cotton batting* 100% cotton thread* Glue Stick Pins Marker Measuring tape/ruler *Because this item is intended for use in a microwave oven, certain precautions should be taken to prevent melting/and or possible fire. Use only 100% Cotton batting, thread and fabric. Also, the cozy is designed for warming only, NOT long term cooking in the microwave. Place 1 square of batting in the center of fabric square (wrong side). Put a dot of glue in center and each corner of batting to hold to fabric. Fold diagonally from bottom left corner to top right corner to form a triangle. Press or finger press the fold and open up. Then fold diagonally from bottom right corner to top left corner. Press or finger press the fold and open up. Now you have an X in the middle of the square. These are your stitching lines. Repeat for other square. Straight stitch along the X. Repeat for other square Now it s time to make the darts. Fold square in half, with right sides touching, to form a rectangle. On the short side, measure in 1 inch from the fold and mark with a marker or pin. On the long side, measure down 2 from the top and mark with marker or pin. Draw a line to connect the marks and straight stitch along the line you made. Do this on both ends of rectangle. Repeat for other square. 1

2 Now you have to add darts to the other side using the same method, however, when you fold the square in half the other way, it won t look like a rectangle because of the darts you just put in. Match the darts and the corners on one side, then on the short side, measure in 1 inch from the fold and mark with a marker or pin. On the long side, measure down 2 from the top and mark with marker or pin. Draw a line to connect the marks and straight stitch along the line you made. Do this on both ends of rectangle. Repeat for other square. Trim all darts off approximately a ¼ from stitch line. Your two squares should now look like bowls. Place one bowl inside the other, right sides touching, matching up the darts and corners and pin in place, leaving a 3 opening on one side for turning. I like to put 2 pins on either side of opening to remind myself to leave the opening. Using a ¼ seam, stitch around the perimeter of the bowls. Clip the corners. Turn right sides out and push corners out. 2

3 Pin opening, then stitch closed, staying as close to the edge as possible. Press around the perimeter, then using a ¼ seam allowance, top stitch around the entire perimeter of cozy. And Voila! 3

5 Place 1 square of batting in the center of the wrong side of 1 fabric square. If you feel it necessary to hold in place, put a dot of glue in the center and each corner of batting to hold to fabric. Fold diagonally from bottom left corner to top right corner to form a triangle. Press on the fold and open up. Then fold opposite corner diagonally from bottom right corner to top left corner. Press on the fold and open up. 5

6 Fold both bottom and top corners to center of square. Press on the folds and open up. This will yield 6 folds which will be your stitching lines. 6

7 Straight-stitch on the folds from corner to corner and edge to edge of the batting, backstitching at beginning and end. Repeat for other square. Adding darts - Fold your quilted square in half, with right sides touching, to form a rectangle. Match your open corners and pin. On the short side, measure in from the fold and on the long side measure down 3 from the top of fabric and draw a line. Do this on both ends of rectangle, then straight stitch along the line you drew, backstitching at beginning and end. Repeat for other square. 7

8 Adding darts to opposite sides Fold your quilted square in half on the opposite sides. Match up corners and darts and pin. On the short side, measure in from the fold and on the long side measure down 3 from the top of fabric and draw a line. Do this on both ends of rectangle, then straight stitch along the line you drew, backstitching at beginning and end. Repeat for other square. Trim all darts off approximately a ¼ from stitch line. 8

9 Your two squares should now look like bowls. With right sides touching, place one bowl inside the other. Match up the corners and pin. Match up and nest the darts on 3 sides and pin. You ll leave a 2-3 opening in the middle of the 4 th side for turning. 9

10 Using a ¼ seam, stitch around the perimeter of the bowls. Clip the corners. Turn right sides out and push corners out. Press around the perimeter of the cozy and then close the opening. 10

11 I close mine by machine stitching as close to the edge as possible. Topstitch around the entire perimeter either ¼ or ½ from edge. You can also use any decorative stitch that tickles your fancy. And 11
