1 November 2018 Longview, TX Ladies, President's Corner I would like to give a big "THANK YOU" shout out to Patty Pickle for her October program and Betty Vaughn for the workshop she held after October's meeting. Both ladies are so talented and don't mind sharing their knowledge with other quilters. I'm so glad cooler weather has finally arrived. Fall is my favorite time of year, when the trees start putting on their brilliant colors. Take the time and get out to take a drive on the back roads and get inspiration for a fall quilt. I've been collecting fall colors to make a Maple Leaf quilt. Make time to get out and see GOD'S PAINT BRUSH at work, on the fall trees. Meeting: Nov :00AM- noon (gathering for fellowship and snacks at 9:30) Kamie Haase will have a slide presentation and be explaining the process of how to make a T-shirt quilt. After the meeting she will stay for a hands-on workshop. If you plan to stay for the workshop, please bring a sack lunch and the supplies listed in the following article. Hope to see you there! We have so many talented quilters in our guild that are willing to share their knowledge with us! Nov. 17 -T-Shirt quilt Workshop with Betty Vaughn-1:00-4:30PM: After the November meeting we will have a T -shirt workshop. We will go over how to plan out your quilt, how to iron on your stabilizer and how to cut your shirts and hopefully we will sew some blocks together. If you plan to attend please bring the following supplies. 1. T shirts (no need to cut them out until the workshop) 2. Rotary cutter 3. Scissors 4. Pencil 5. Sewing machine 6. 12" or larger square ruler. If you plan to have larger blocks than 12.5" you will need a ruler to measure your blocks 7. Pressing cloth 8. Light weight - iron on interfacing (if you are using a dark jersey shirt you will need a dark interfacing) It might help to bring the shirt with you when you shop for interfacing to see if the stabilizer will show through. 9. Bring fabrics you plan to use around your blocks. I have found that black and white small prints work well especially if you have a variety of colors in your shirts. I have used prints that have the same theme as the shirts such as football prints or water for swim team shirts. We will need several irons, ironing boards and cutting mats for all to share. Call me on my cell if you have any questions. Thanks and Hope to see you there. Kamie Haase
