2 Introduction On a bright sunny morning in September 1985 a group of teenage friends stood behind barriers on a street in Clonmel awaiting the arrival of the first rider in the Nissan Classic time trial. One by one they entered the town, and with each one the intensity of the cheering grew until reaching fever pitch on the arrival of Sean Kelly. World class cycling had arrived in Clonmel with a bang and with it a curiosity amongst many of those present, a curiosity that led to those same teenage friends joining the local cycling club within days. A club where everyone was an individual with something to offer & made feel welcome, a club where friendship and rivalry were greeted with equal amounts of enthusiasm. Twenty seven years later these same qualities and enthusiasm along with some of those teenage friends have brought the 2012 National Cycling Championships to Clonmel, an enthusiasm that we hope will once again infect children, teenagers and adults standing behind the barriers.
