God Bless Jeanette Kreidler, Editor February Birthdays 2/7-Nancy Brown 2/10-James Maser 2/20-Jeanette Kreidler February Anniversaries 2/27-Jim & Kristin Galehouse Doylestown Lions Club's 80 th Charter Celebration Plans are moving forward on the big celebration which will be held at the Brookside Country Club in Norton on May 3, A club Lions Pin has been designed by Dorothy Daniel, and a price is being worked-up by the pin manufacturer. The speaker for the evening will be Past International Director Jerry Smith, who served during the Lions year. Lion Jerry is from Wauseon, Ohio. The menu will include Barberton noodles? Anyone have any experience with eating these? Please put the May 3, 2014 date on your calendar. This is a very important celebration of 80 years of service to our community, and no member should miss this event. International Convention LCI is making plans for an exciting 97th Lions Clubs Annual International Convention (LCICon) from July 4 8, 2014 in the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and we enthusiastically invite you to join the celebration. Convention-goers can look forward to an inspiring week of business and pleasure, as we unite to shape the future of our great association. The festivities include our own culturally diverse International Parade of Nations through the heart of Toronto along with interesting seminars, lively plenary sessions, the gala International Show, and the election of LCI's International President.

Members present were Hetsch, Lindeman, Bill Brown, Liston, Watkins, Daniel, Jarvis, Campbell, Toth, Michelle Ries, Tim Smith. Guests were Kay Kerr and Don Stafford.

The minutes from the November, 2013 meeting was read. Lindeman made the motion to accept as read and seconded by Watkins. Motion passed. Membership: Liston encouraged the members to look for candidates to join our club. 80th Anniversary: Bill Brown made a motion to pay for one night stay at Montrose motel for our out-of-town guest speaker and wife, motion received a second and motion passed. 80th Anniversary: Denny Toth moved and it was seconded by Lindeman that the charter night event would be paid out of the Ault Fund. All members with paid-up dues that attend would be included. Club Facebook/web-site: Michelle Ries is willing to submit a plan and if approved will carry out setting up a Facebook page and Web-site. The Board asked her to submit a plan for approval. DOYLESTOWN LIONS CLUB BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING JANUARY 15, 2014 The meeting called to order at 7:45PM by President, John Hetsch, with a quorum present. Melvin Jones Fellowships: Bill Brown announced that we can name 5 of our members to this award. There are probably other awards available to our club. A committee was not formed at this time. This is being looked at by the Secretary. Chippewa High School Scholarships: Lindeman made a motion and it was seconded by Jarvis that we continue the scholarship at $1000 per year for 4

4 years for the year of Motion passed. National Day of Prayer: Lindeman made the motion to sponsor the event on May 1, Jarvis made the second, motion passed. Donut Sale in Marshallville: Larry Stull has asked us if we want to sell donuts on August 30 and October 18, A decision was not made. Parade of Checks: A discussion was held as to how much money we can spend on the Parade of Checks at the District Convention in April. A decision will be made next month. 80th Anniversary Pin: Bill Brown made a motion and Lindeman seconded that we accept the proposed pin design prepared by Dorothy Daniel and purchase 100 pins at $ Motion passed. Club Finances: MacGregor made a motion and Ries seconded to form a finance committee of at least 3 people to review the financial books semiannually and report back to the club in January and July. Motion passed. The following members volunteered: Marianne Woodside, Stafford and Kay Kerr. Blood Drive: The club sponsored a blood drive for the Red Cross on January 7, Bill Brown thanked the members that volunteered. The next drive will be March 4, 2014 from 1-7 PM. District Cabinet meeting will be Feb. 16. The Zone meeting is Feb. 19. Kay Kerr Acting Secretary Investment report for the February Vanguard Mutual Funds: $24, (of which $9, is scholarship funds) Former T. Rowe Price Mutual Funds: $59, (now deposited in Lions Club Checking Account) Total Investment Funds: $83, The former T. Rowe Price investments are deposited in the checking account awaiting board and club action to decide how much to spend on the 80th Anniversary Party. (We cannot use community funds for the party.) Once that number is decided, the balance can be re-invested with Vanguard according to the board and club vote of September 10, 2013 to consolidate investments. The Finance Committee appointed last June and authorized by the September votes to re-invest funds at Vanguard has decided to diversify the investments three ways: the scholarship funds will be invested in a conservative Vanguard LifeStrategy Growth Fund, half the remaining funds will be invested in an aggressive Vanguard LifeStrategy Growth Fund and the other half will be invested in a moderate Vanguard LifeStrategy Growth Fund. The exact funds have not yet been selected by the committee, but an example would be ticker symbol VSMGX, for those who would like to research the investments. VSMGX is split among mutual funds thus: 42% domestic stock, 18% international stock, 32% domestic bonds and 8% international bonds. As many Lions are aware, the club had some investments in precious metals and real estate that did not perform well in The actions noted above

5 will place us in a better financial position going forward. I would like to note that while the 2013 performance was not great, previous investments funded our $25,000 contribution to SightFirst II and our $15,000 investment in the new donut wagon, along with numerous other withdrawals over the years. Finance Committee Chairman, Lion Earl Kerr FRIENDLY REMINDER All dues need to be paid to Bill Brown and they are past due at the end of January. So please get these paid. In the Southern Hemisphere February is a summer month the equivalent of August. The month is named for the Latin word februum which means purification. Together with January, it was the last of the months added to the Roman calendar. The largest American sporting event of the year, the Super Bowl, is held in February. The Saxon term for the month, Solmonath, means "cake month". This is because they offered cakes to the gods during this month.

Lions Clubs International Mission and History In 1917, Melvin Jones, a 38-year-old Chicago business leader, told members of his local business club they should reach beyond business issues and address the betterment of their communities and the world. Jones' group, the Business Circle of Chicago, agreed. After contacting similar groups around the United States, an organizational meeting was held on June 7, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The new group took the name of one of the invited groups, the "Association of Lions Clubs," and a national convention was held in Dallas, Texas, USA in October of that year. A constitution, by-laws, objects and a code of ethics were approved. Within three years, Lions became an international organization. Since then, we've earned high marks for both integrity and transparency. We're a well-run organization with a steady vision, a clear mission, and a long and proud history. Lions Clubs Ready to Help, Worldwide EYEGLASS UPDATE Per Lion Bill Daniel, 745 pair of glasses has been turned in for a total of 19,005 in 30 years from our club!!!!! Way to go Lions! Whenever a Lions club gets together, problems get smaller. And communities get better. That's because we help where help is needed in our own communities and around the world with unmatched integrity and energy.
