1 For Immediate Release Celebrating World Post Day Paying Tribute to SingPost staff Inviting public to share pleasant experiences SingPost GCEO presenting the Outstanding Employee of the Year Award to Ms Maggie Koh Singapore, 8 October 2009 SingPost celebrated World Post Day by paying tribute to its postal staff for their outstanding service, as part of the worldwide celebrations to mark the anniversary of the founding of the Universal Postal Union 1 (UPU) in World Post Day is celebrated annually on 9 October. A total of 425 SingPost staff was presented awards in appreciation of their exemplary performance at its annual Best Employee of the Year cum Commendation Awards ceremony on Tuesday, 6 October. Besides the Best Employee of the Year awards, SingPost also gave out commendation awards ranging from Bronze to Gold, depending on the number of compliments received from customers and presented WOW awards to service providers who have wowed their customers with their service. 1 The Universal Postal Union, with 191 member countries, is the primary forum for cooperation between postal-sector players and helps to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services. It is also a specialised agency of the United Nations. 1

2 At the awards ceremony, Mr Wilson Tan, Group Chief Executive Officer said: In SingPost, we believe in our staff. We have a strong tradition and a confident future. We share the same goal - to provide the best experience for our customers. Each and every one of us carries with us the power of one the power to decide, to make a choice, and to make a difference. The beauty of the power of one is that it is simple and only requires willingness to serve. Our award winners have demonstrated the power of one the power of a single individual in making a difference. This year, SingPost inaugurated its Hall of Fame, inducting its first member, Ms Maggie Koh Mui Keng. All Best Employees of the Year Award receive a cash award worth $1,000, a $200 dining voucher, a certificate and collar pin. Outstanding Employee of the Year Maggie Koh Mui Keng won the Customer Service Officer (Contact Centre) of the Year 2009 as well as the most prestigious award - Outstanding Employee of the Year for her excellent performance as well as for going the extra mile in customer service. This is her third consecutive win in the Customer Service Officer (Contact Centre) of the Year category. Maggie is also the first to be inducted into SingPost Hall of Fame 2. With a passion to serve, Maggie joined Singapore Post 33 years ago as a Customer Service Officer. Despite her long length of service, Maggie has never lost her zeal to serve. Her dedicated service to customers, down to the minute details of personal likes and dislikes has won the hearts of many customers, garnering numerous compliments yearly. Last year alone, she has received more than 25 compliments, averaging about 2 compliments per month. One particular incident deserves special mention. A customer needed his items urgently or he would suffer a financial loss. As the payment had yet been generated, the delivery arrangement could not be made. Maggie stayed beyond her shift to generate payment for the customer so that his parcel could be lodged for delivery the next day. She came to work early the next day to ensure the item was delivered to the customer in the morning. Going the extra mile, she called the customer in the afternoon to ensure all was well. Such is the personalised service that Maggie renders. Two years ago, Maggie received special compliments from The New Paper journalist, Tan Mae- Lynn, who wrote in to commend on her great service recovery. Maggie is also one of the three finalists for this year s EXSA Superstar Award, organised by SPRING Singapore. The results will be announced in November. 2 To be inducted into SingPost Hall of Fame, introduced this year, the recipient must be awarded three times the Best Employee of the Year award. 2

3 Postman of the Year The Postman of the Year award is one of the highest accolades from SingPost. In his 17 years of service, Mohamad has delivered more than 15 million mail items. Promoted to the rank of Postman Special Grade (or Senior Postman) in 1998, his can-do attitude and excellent service helped him clinch the coveted Postman of the Year Award for Mohamad has demonstrated that making the extra effort - whether it is a big or small act - to serve customers can and will make a difference. For example, for items with incomplete address, he will trace the identity of the recipient and make house visits to confirm the owner of item. This has earned him compliments from customers. His colleagues also appreciate him. He comes to work as early as 6 am, before his official reporting time, to help distribute mail, thereby helping to ease their work. He also personally ensures that all are in order before he leaves the office. That is his hallmark of excellence. Courier of the Year The Courier of the Year 2009 award goes to Gopala Krishnan Subramaniam for his excellent customer service. Gopala has been with SingPost for the last 17 years. He is always positive, displays eagerness in learning and constantly picks up new skills to better himself. His willingness to help includes sacrificing all his weekends last December to help deliver the high influx of parcels. Such is the willing heart he has that his peers and supervisors appreciate him and value his service. Customer Service Officer (Retail) of the Year Rasidah d/o Mahamed Kahsim, Branch Manager of Bukit Panjang Post Office won the Customer Service Officer (Retail) of the Year Award Having been with SingPost for 14 years, it is indisputable that Rasidah is highly committed to her work and this is attested by the constant flow of compliments from customers who are delighted with the service she renders. Not only does she oversee a post office and deliver quality work, she leads by example and puts into practice what she believes, instilling in her staff a work ethos that is in line with SingPost s core values of professionalism, integrity, reliability and care. Rasidah clearly exudes a positive attitude in the way that she enthusiastically embraces learning. 3

Hosted a learning journey visit for the students of Pathlight School on 7 October The Pathlight School serves primarily children aged 6 to 18 years old with autism and related disorders.
