1 For Immediate Release 377 SingPost Staff Honoured for Excellent Service - SingPost pays tribute to postal staff on World Post Day Singapore, 7 October It s a rare occurrence to be asked to catch an iguana but that is precisely what Anand A/L Sivapiragasam did willingly when a resident approached him for help. He said: I decided to help as an extra pair of hands is always useful. After all, I had almost finished my rounds for that day. The iguana was close to 1 metre long. It was running about the house trying to escape from us and we took nearly an hour to catch it. Similarly, Branch Manager Mazlimda Binte Abu did not think twice about delivering an item personally to a customer on Christmas Eve. The customer s item was only ready for collection at Yishun Central Post Office the next working day but she needed it urgently for a function that night. Mazlimda collected the item from SPC Post Office and delivered the item to the customer on that very evening, ensuring she got it on time for the function. Recalling the incident, Mazlimda said: "I didn t think about it except that it was my responsibility. Seeing the delight on the customer s face gives me a sense of achievement." For their consistent excellent performance and always going the extra mile for customers, Branch Manager Mazlimda Binte Abu and Postman Anand have been named this year s Best Customer Service Officer (Retail) of the Year and Postman of the Year respectively. Mazlimda also bagged the Outstanding Employee of the Year Together with seven other Best Employee of the Year Award winners, 12 WOW and Page 1 of 5

2 356 Commendation Award winners, they received their awards at SingPost s annual Best Employee of the Year cum Commendation Awards ceremony held in conjunction with World Post Day 1 last evening. Dr Wolfgang Baier, SingPost s Group Chief Executive stressed SingPost s commitment to customers. He said: World Post Day offers us a timely opportunity to pay tribute to our staff for their service. We are in a people business. It is important that we have a customer-centric mindset - delivering high quality, reliable, efficient and convenient services to the public and businesses while maintaining affordability. Best Employee of the Year Award Winners Outstanding Employee of the Year and Best Customer Service Officer (Retail) of the Year An outstanding staff, 43-year-old Mazlimda Binte Abu, Branch Manager of Yishun Central Post Office and Cluster Manager for the post offices in the North Zone is not only known for her cheerful and helpful disposition, but also her can-do attitude, strong team spirit and initiative. Mazlimda, who joined SingPost 17 years ago, epitomises the spirit of excellent customer service. She will always help the elderly and the physically challenged and ensure that they are served first. On one occasion, she helped to top up a prepaid housing utility card for an elderly person-in-a-wheelchair who was unable to contribute the minimum top-up sum of S$10. Her service skills have also delighted many customers. A happy customer, Mr Jack Han has written to express his appreciation for her friendliness. He said, During my visit, CSO Mazlimda provided me an excellent service. She is very friendly. Mazlimda s dedication and admirable work ethic have won over the hearts of her many customers, both internally and externally. She is always willing to nurture, develop and motivate her colleagues like Management Trainees, Assistant Branch Managers, and Customer Service Officers. 3 Best Postman of the Year Postman Anand A/L Sivapiragasam, 36 years old, has been with SingPost for almost 15 years. Every day, rain or shine, he serves some 1,000 units in the Bedok area including a commercial site. His strive to deliver his best such as tracing mail with incorrect or incomplete addresses and providing a friendly service earned praises from customers. Ms Fairuz Zain, a human resource and administrative assistant manager said: Anand has been delivering letters promptly to my office for the past six years. He would always smile and greet me even when we meet outside the office. His cheerful disposition has, in turn, put a smile on my face. Although he needs only to start work at 7am, every day Anand will leave his home at 4.30am so as to reach the Changi delivery base by 5.45am to help segregate mail bags into their sectors for the indoor sorters. Instead of getting caught in the traffic jam, I reckon it is better for me to leave my house early so that I can better use my time, said Anand. On many occasions, Anand volunteered to stay back in the evening to help his colleagues. He also helps in the training of new postmen and neighbourhood postmen. His can-do attitude has been exemplary for his cohort to emulate. Best Courier of the Year Courier Mohd Amran Bin Mohamed Salleh, 43 years and who has been with SingPost for over 20 years, consistently strives to deliver a good service and will ensure that items and especially last minute requests are delivered on time even when confronted by challenging conditions such as bad weather or heavy traffic. On one occasion, a customer called after office hours to request for urgent delivery of an item which he needed within the hour. Without hesitation, Mohd Amran took up the job. Despite the heavy evening peak traffic, he managed to collect the item from the sender and deliver it to the recipient on time. Mohd Amran is always ready to assist his colleagues. He will report to work even on his off-days if a helping hand is required. His can-do attitude has a positive influence on his peers. Page 3 of 5

4 Other Best Employee of the Year Award Winners Five other exemplary staff have also been bestowed the Best Employee of the Year Award on 6 October 2011 and one from Quantium Solutions for Outstanding Employee of the Year (Quantium Solutions). SingPost also gave awards to the 12 WOW awardees who have wowed their customers with their excellent service.
