Call to Order: Zone Chair Dianne Lavoie called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. Trustee Sharilyn Anderson led the meeting in prayer. 2. Approval of Agenda: Trustee Louise Woroniuk moved the acceptance of the agenda, with the addition of Labour Relations Representative alternate and 4.8 Peace Wapiti School Division Letter to the Minister of Education 3. Approval of the Minutes September Trustee Paulette Kurylo moved to approve the Minutes of the September 24, 2014 meeting as presented.

2 4. New Items: 4.1 Review of ASBA Zone 1 By-Laws Z-1 and Z-2 Trustee Carmelle Lizée moved to rescind the May 29, 2013, amendment motion to By- Law Z-2 Election of Chair/Vice Chair. Trustee Dana MacIntosh moved the Chair and Vice-Chair together with the Secretary- Treasurer work with ASBA to review Zone 1 By-laws. 4.2 Zone 1 Election Election of Zone 1 Chair Trustee Sharilyn Anderson nominated Dianne Lavoie. Dianne Lavoie accepted the nomination. Trustee Karen Prokopowich moved nominations cease. Dianne Lavoie was elected Zone 1 Chair for the school year. Election of Zone 1 Vice-Chair Trustee Dana MacIntosh nominated Sharilyn Anderson. Sharilyn Anderson accepted the nomination. Joyce Dvornek moved nominations cease. Sharilyn Anderson was elected Zone 1 Vice-Chair for the school year.

3 Election of Zone 1 Secretary-Treasurer Dale Lederer moved Helen Diaz be appointed Secretary-Treasurer for Zone 1 for the school year. Appointment of Representatives Tammy Henkel was appointed the Zone 1 Labour Relations representative with Karen Propokowich as the alternate for the school year. Wendy Kelm was appointed the Zone 1 Northwest Regional Learning Consortium representative for the school year. Stephanie Clarke was appointed the Zone 1 Healthy School Consortium representative for the school year. 4.3 Presentation on Public Interest Disclosure Act Ted Miles, Director Public Interest Commissioner, gave a presentation on the Public Interest Disclosure Act. Chair Dianne Lavoie thanked Ted for his presentation. 4.4 ASBA Zone 1 Financial Report Update Secretary-Treasure Helen Diaz presented the financial report update. Trustee Louise Woroniuk moved the financial report be accepted as presented. 4.5 Trustee Long Service Awards ASBA President, Helen Clease, presented the Trustee Long Service Awards to the following: Margaret Michaud 9 years Trustee Gayton accepted the award on Trustee Michaud s behalf.

4 4.6 Balanced School Year Committee Funds The Committee identified the lack of mental health services in the zone and recommends: 1. To develop incentives to attract mental health staff to the north; and 2. To enhance students mental health. Trustee Karen Propokowich moved the Committee bring back a proposal on how the remaining Balanced School Year Committee funds be used to support students mental health services in the Zone, at the May Zone meeting. 4.7 Future Professional Development Topics New Professional Development suggestions: Parliamentary Procedures meeting protocols Role of Trustees re: Education Act RCMP Liaison In-House Hearing from GPRC new post-secondary program plans ASBA Legal Services duty to accommodate, Human Rights and Safe and Caring 4.8 Peace Wapiti School Division s Letter to the Minister. The letter to the Minister of Education from Peace Wapiti School Division was shared. Trustee Stacey Pelland moved that Zone 1 send a letter to the Minister and the Premier encouraging them to maintain the department s support for the key elements of Inspiring Education and reminding the Minister of the other documents that support the key elements of Inspiring Education. 5. Standing Reports 5.1 Zone 1 ASBA Director s Report Nan Bartlett Zone I Director, Nan Bartlett, presented the Director s Report. 5.2 ASBA Report President, Helen Clease President Helen Clease presented her report. 5.3 Alberta Education Nathan Freed Nathan Freed reviewed the Alberta Education report, as presented.

5 5.4 Northwest Regional Learning Consortium No report. 5.5 Zone 1 Labour Relations No report. 5.6 Healthy Schools Coalition Stefanie Clarke The report on Healthy Schools Coalition was circulated. 6.
