2 Focus and Objective The International Private Banking & Wealth Management Retreat is an exclusive international platform for senior executives in private banking and wealth management, organised by the Swiss Banking School. Its objective is to address the radical change private banking is undergoing from a once quiet and discrete service to a highly dynamic and competitive business. The Retreat helps you redefine the priorities to meet the new challenges of private banking in our global era, based both on recent research and day-today experience of renowned professors and first-class professionals. Specifically, the Retreat will help you to understand strategic, organisational, and personal challenges in the turbulent environment of modern private banking & wealth management become familiar with the best practices of leading institutions build an international network and interchange ideas with private bankers world-wide Participants The Retreat is designed for Managing Directors and Members of the Executive Board in private banking or wealth management organisations. The number of participants is limited, allowing close interaction between participants and speakers. In previous years, participants represented leading private banks.their ranks included: CEO, Deputy CEO, Member of the Executive Board, Executive Vice President, Managing Director, and Head of Private Banking. The language of the Retreat is English. Schedule and Structure Venue Fees Registration Contact The Retreat, running from 5-9 September 2005, will consist of various modules (see program outline, next page). 4 Speakers at the 7 th International Private Banking & Wealth Management Retreat Alois Bättig is a Member of the Executive Board of Credit Suisse and heads the Division Private Banking Europe. He first joined Credit Suisse in 1974 and has since served the company in numerous capacities in Private Banking, in particular also in Singapore, the UK and the US. Before being appointed to his present function in October 2002, Mr Bättig was responsible for selected offshore Private Banking markets in Europe and overseas. Christian de Juniac is a Senior Vice President and Director in Boston Consulting Group s London office. He has been responsible for BCG s Financial Services Practice in London, Amsterdam and Zurich and has worked for domestic clients in most European countries as well as in the US, Mexico, Latin America, SE Asia, India and Japan. Mr de Juniac specialises in strategy development, mergers, post merger integration and change management in Asset Management and Private Banking organisations. Furthermore he is a co-autor of BCG s report on global wealth. Mr de Juniac received an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School, a License en Droit from the Université de Paris, and an M.A. in Economics and Law from the University of Cambridge. Pierre de Weck is Global Head of Private Wealth Management and a Member of the Group Executive Committee of Deutsche Bank. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank in April 2002, Mr de Weck had been with UBS since During his time at UBS he became CEO of UBS North American operations in 1987, then was appointed to the Group Executive Board in 1994 with divisional responsibility for the Global Corporate and Institutional division, and in 1998 became a member of the Group Executive Board of the merged entity UBS - SBC. Mr de Weck graduated with an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, and with an MSc in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology MIT. François Debiesse is Chief Executive Officer Private Banking of BNP Paribas, a role he has held since Mr Debiesse has been with BNP Paribas since 1971, during which time he has held various managing positions in the International Department / Asia-Pacific region, in the French Domestic Network, and in the European Business Development Department. In 1993 he was appointed Head of Private Banking France, and three years later he became Head of the Asset Management Department. Mr Debiesse is a Professor of Finance at the private university Ecole Supérieure Libre des Sciences Commerciales Appliquées. He graduated at the HEC Business School near Paris and studied at the Paris Institute of Political Studies. Mr Debiesse is also the Chairman of the Fondation BNP Paribas. Michel Dérobert is Executive Director of the "Groupement des Banquiers Privés Genevois" and, simultaneously, Secretary General of the Swiss Private Bankers Association, positions he has held since His main responsibilities include advising Swiss private bankers on policy, legislative and regulatory issues as well as co-ordinating their activities in various fields of common interest, notably in the tax area. Prior to his present roles he held various positions in banking and finance in Geneva and London, and had been a member of management at the Swiss Federation of Commerce and Industry (now economiesuisse) in Zurich. Mr Dérobert graduated in Business Administration from the University of St. Gallen. Christoph Hentsch is Managing Partner at Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch & Cie, a position to which he was appointed in April Mr Hentsch had first joined Lombard Odier & Cie in 1999 as Head of Global Custody. Prior to that he had been CFO and Member of the Executive Committee of Société Générale d Affichage, after having been in the Corporate Finance Department of Kleinwort Benson in London and Zurich. Mr Hentsch was also a Member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Electronic Exchange between 1996 and He graduated in Economics with a major in Marketing from the University of St. Gallen. Harry Hürzeler has been Managing Director of the Swiss Banking School since His research focuses on business strategies and implementation in the Wealth Management industry. Prior to his present position Dr Hürzeler had been with Credit Suisse in various positions since Amongst others he was six years in Japan, as Managing Director of CS Trust & Banking, as Head of Private Banking, and finally as Managing Director and Country Manager Japan for Credit Suisse First Boston. Dr Hürzeler has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, a degree in Business Administration from the University of St. Gallen, and was Professor of Mathematics at the Ohio State University. Andrew Hutton is joint Managing Director at Royal Bank of Scotland Asset Management. From 1997 to 2004 he was Head of Investment Management at Coutts, the private client subsidiary of RBS. Prior to joining Coutts, Mr Hutton had been with JPMorgan for 18 years in various positions. Amongst others he headed the international mutual fund business, was Managing Director and CEO for JPMorgan Investment Management Australia, and was responsible for JPMorgan s investment management activities in Asia ex Japan. Mr Hutton graduated in Modern Languages and Law from Cambridge University in 1979 and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He is a non-executive Director of the Strategic Investment Board (S.I.B.), which advises the U.K. Department of Constitutional Affairs on investment matters. Michael J. Lagopoulos is President and CEO of Global Private Banking for Royal Bank of Canada. He is responsible for the strategic direction, overall operating and financial results for the Royal Bank s Canadian and international private banking businesses. Prior to his engagement at Royal Bank of Canada, Mr Lagopoulos worked with Deloitte & Touche. Since joining Royal Bank of Canada in 1986 he spent all of his time in private banking, working abroad from 1988 to 1996.

5 François-Serge Lhabitant is a Professor of Finance at the HEC University of Lausanne (Switzerland) and at the EDHEC Business School (France), as well as a research fellow of the International Center for Financial Asset Management and Engineering (FAME). Prof. Lhabitant is also a Managing Director at Kedge Capital in London, where he heads the investment research group. Prof. Lhabitant authored five books on alternative investments and emerging markets, and has published several articles on these topics. Philip Marcovici is CEO of LawInContext Pte. Ltd., the interactive knowledge venture of Baker & McKenzie, is a Partner of Baker & McKenzie and a Member of the Steering Committee of its European tax practice. Mr Marcovici is active in advising clients on issues related to the use of trusts and other fiduciary arrangements. He has been an honorary lecturer at the law school of Hong Kong University and the University of Zurich law faculty. He is an active member of the tax sections of both the American and the Canadian Bar Association, and is a Member of the Canadian tax foundation in Switzerland. Further memberships include the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the International Fiscal Association, and several chambers of commerce. Eira Palin-Lethinen is Executive Vice President at Nordea and Head of the Savings & Wealth Management Division. Ms Palin- Lethinen has been with Nordea and its predecessors since Her first assignment was in London, where she became the Head of Corporate Finance. Subsequent positions as Head of Corporate Finance, Head of Investor Relations, and Head of Corporate Communications for Merita Bank were followed by the appointment as Head of Private Banking in 1998, and Head of Savings & Wealth Management in 2003 for Nordea. Ms Palin-Lethinen is also on the Board of Nordea Investment Management of Finland and Sweden. She has a law degree from the University of Helsinki. Jeffrey L. Sampler is Professor of Strategy and Technology at Oxford University. He is researching digital technologies as a driving force in the transformation of many industries. In particular, he studies the development of information-based strategies as a source of innovation, and the management strategies necessary to manage such firms. Prof. Sampler s work has appeared in various journals such as Sloan Management Review, Strategic Management Journal and Fortune Magazine among others. Prior to his current position Prof. Sampler was Associate Professor of Information Management and Strategy at London Business School, and a principal researcher for the Center for Research in Information Management. He has been featured in Newsweek, and has appeared on BBC Radio and CNBC. Eduardo Schindler is the Founder and CEO of 2thePoint AG, a firm providing strategy, finance and M&A services. He is also a Co-Founder, Board Member and former CEO of NewCenturyBank in the Principality of Liechtenstein, Founder and Chairman of the Chilean chapter of the Swiss-Latinamerican Chamber of Commerce, and a Member of the Business Development Board of various mid-size Swiss companies. His prior working experience includes several years in investment banking with UBS Warburg, in consulting with McKinsey & Co., in the industrial family-office of a Swiss entrepreneur, and in management consulting in Santiago, Chile. Mr Schindler holds a PhD Degree in International Economics from the Graduate Institute of International Studies (Geneva) and a MA in Economics from the Catholic University of Chile. Michael Schramm is a Member of the Management Board of Berenberg Bank, Germany s oldest private bank, a position to which he was appointed at the beginning of Mr Schramm originally joined Berenberg Bank in 1996, and became responsible for global Private Banking and for the bank s mutual funds in He graduated in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing and the Finance Industry. Mr Schramm appears frequently on German TV and contributes regularly to specialist magazines on topics related to Private Banking and market developments. Eric Syz is Founding Partner, Managing Director and Member of the Management Committee of Banque SYZ & CO SA, a Swiss Bank based in Geneva. Mr Syz is responsible for the alternative investment division of the bank, as well as for the Group s asset management company in Salzburg and for the Bank s branch in Zurich. He began his career in 1977 with SG Warburg, where he worked in asset management and merchant banking. He subsequently joined Paine Webber in New York, then moved on to join the asset management division of Lombard Odier & Cie. In 1995 he left Lombard Odier to set up Banque SYZ & CO SA together with two partners, Alfredo Piacentini and Paulo Lubau. Pierre-Alain Wavre heads the Pictet Family Office since Before joining Pictet & Cie in 1986, Mr Wavre worked for a major English private Bank. Later, he specialised namely in advising High Net Worth Families and was at the origin of the alternative investment strategy development at Pictet & Cie in the late 1980's. Mr Wavre graduated in Economics and Economics History from the University of Geneva. Raoul Weil is Head of Wealth Management International and Member of the UBS Group Managing Board. He joined Swiss Bank Corporation in 1984.After repositioning the international Private Banking Organisation he became Head of U.S. Private Banking in 1994 and subsequently assumed the responsibility for the region North America and Caribbean.After the Merger of SBC and UBS Mr Weil became a Board Member of the UBS Private Banking Division, heading Private Banking Asia in Hong- Kong and Singapore. In 2000 he became Head of the Europe, Middle East & Africa Private Banking Division. Mr Weil studied National Economics and Business Administration at the University of Basel and completed the Advanced Executive Program at Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
