Prof. Robert Clancy AM Wendy Kaye Member of the Order of Australia for Immunology and History Cartography. Foundation Professor of Pathology at University of Newcastle (the world s second problem based medical school): clinical (immunology/gastroenterology), research (mucosal immunology and host/parasite relationships). Board member of three Biotech companies. I developed several diagnostic and therapeutic products, for example, a vaccine to prevent exacerbation of chronic airways disease, and the first yes/no test for Helicobacter pylori (cause of peptic ulcers). I am standing: as a local member of some years, residing in the Sydney CBD. I am committed to the philosophy, ideas, activities and the future of the School. I would like to play a small part in helping it be the best it can be, to explore and expand its roles and functions. as a Fellow of the Royal Society (N) - the other historic think tank in NSW - to facilitate communication and development of collaboration and activities of mutual benefit to both organisations.

Mark Brandon OAM Denis Mockler I have held senior executive and CEO roles in government programs, health insurance, accreditation and aged care. I have director and board experience in community and for profit organisations. For example I am a director of VETEA Ltd (a training organisation), a director of Aged Care Industry Association; previously a director and chair of the audit committee at Macquarie Community College, board member Australian Centre for Evidence Based Aged Care at La Trobe University, committee member West Pennant Hills Football Club. I have an appointment in the School of Business at Notre Dame University (Sydney). I chair an international interest group Quality in Social Care for Older Persons. My most significant role ( ) was a CEO of the government s Standards and Accreditation Agency responsible for promoting quality, accreditation and education programs to all nursing homes in Australia. As a result of my varied career roles I am experienced working with diverse communities. I am a member of AICD, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, an Associate Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Management and a mentor in the ACHSM mentoring program I believe the School currently provides an excellent service to members but if it is to survive and thrive into the future we need to be looking to the future to build broader recognition in the community, build membership numbers and provide services people seek and which align with our core purpose. In doing that we must recognise that we are not building something new. We are expanding on the achievements of the past. I believe my experiences in leadership, governance, strategy development, quality and education will help me contribute to my role as a of SMSA. I have been involved in community-based activities over many years. My core areas of experience are in governance, strategy, quality and education. I have some experience developing marketing plans and leading marketing activities. Now I am semi-retired I have the time to do justice to the role.

Cecile Cornford Paul Reid Most of my working life has been in customer service. I have held various positions over the years and have always enjoyed dealing with different people. I have been an air hostess, a medical secretary and have also held a banking position (investments, etc.) and my last position was as Librarian with the SMSA, which I really loved. My passion is reading and I still buy books. I love my new grandson and enjoy being Nana, travel, film, theatre, history, French, archaeology, cats and other animals and other things too numerous to mention. Having been a Librarian with the SMSA for 17 years, and before that a member, I am very passionate about the Library and the history of the School. I want to continue being involved in its growth and progress into the future. It is a wonderful institution to be a part of and hopefully will remain so for many years, continuing to be a haven in the city.

Denis Mockler Robert Clancy President I have been involved in the SMSA for over 10 years in various roles including the immediate past President. During this time, I have seen a large improvement in services for members and there is scope for even more to be done. The Library must also be maintained to the same high standard. As the immediate past President, I would like to help ensure that the initiatives which are currently being developed can be successfully implemented. These involve the quiet room in the Library for members, the relationships with the WEA, Royal Society and other educational bodies.

Anne Devrell Margaret Rapsey Anne has been a member of the School for 30 years and has previously served on the board. She has belonged to various organisations in community roles. Currently she is on the committee of the Blue Mountains Family History Society and Blacktown-Macquarie Trefoil Guild. Anne volunteers at the SMSA in the Tom Keneally Centre. I am standing for the board to give back to the SMSA as an organisation, providing a different voice on the committee and at board meetings.

Steven R Warren Winsome Allen I have a range of skills from my background that can assist me to make positive contributions including policy development, management and strategic planning. I have a long time community development background as well as education and training experience and events management. I have previously served on a university Board and Academic Senate, held National Secretary and Executive roles for the Australian postgraduate student body, as well as having served on a range of community based organisations. I have a long standing commitment to equality in all these roles and I will continue to do so in SMSA if elected. This experience puts me in good stead to understand the roles and responsibilities as a board member for the better interests of SMSA as a whole. I have been a member of the SMSA for 6 years. During that time I have regularly attended talks, events and the library including the TKC for some years. As an avid reader I enjoy history Including social history, travel, music, crime mystery and science fiction. I have got to know a number of our amazing members, volunteers and staff. The SMSA is a terrific resource steeped in history going back some 184 years. If elected to the Board I will ensure that our traditions and values are preserved for generations to come!

Max Williams Winsome Allen Vice President I retired from corporate life after a career in financial services in both the public and private sectors. Prior to retiring I was engaged in financial management for a large General Insurer and also held the role of Company Secretary of a Computer Facilities Management Company. I assisted the SMSA as Acting Secretary for a period in 2010 and joined the Board of the School in I have Chaired the Building Committee and more recently the Strategic Planning Committee. My outside interests revolve around a large family including many grandchildren who provide a very enjoyable distraction. My membership of the SMSA goes back many years and my involvement at Board and Management level has provided me with the insight that I believe will allow me to contribute to the ongoing development of an old but progressive organisation. My goal as a of the SMSA would be to continue with the planning for the long term future of the School so as to ensure it has the resources to maintain existing facilities enjoyed by its members and to meet the challenges new technologies will bring.

John Robinson Alister Wong I have been a member since August 2008 and was appointed to the Board in August 2009 to fill a casual vacancy. In February 2010 I was elected to the Board and again in 2012 and Initially I assisted with the planning and management of the School s public programs, including Talkabouts, author s talks and the SMSA open days. I see the Talkabout series as an important component of the SMSA s education program. I assisted with the SMSA members Forum in October I am a NSW Justice of the Peace and have served as a board member of two community organisations. My career was in the NSW public sector and this experience in government and community organisations contributes to my understanding of the operation of boards. My interests include continuing education, bridge, reading, travel, theatre, music, walking and pilates. I have nominated to contribute to the activities of the SMSA. I support the SMSA Charter and would like to continue the School s engagement with Sydney s cultural and educational organisations that are part of the city s cultural and artistic life.

Thomas Thorburn Carole O Brien Tom has been a member of the SMSA for over 50 years and a member of the Board for over 20 years. In 2010, he was made a Life Member for his services to the School. Before he retired he was the computer manager of a health fund. Tom keeps up with technology and was involved with the an upgrade to SMSA s computer systems. He is webmaster for the St Marys and District Historical Society. A keen ballroom dancer, he and his wife have also enjoyed a number of cruises including a circumnavigation of Australia. Tom is an avid reader of Detective novels and Science Fiction and has both an ipad and a Kindle for reading ebooks. He has also written a collection of author reviews that are featured in the Limelight Book Reviews section of the SMSA website. As a long-standing member of the Board, I feel I can still provide a valid contribution to the SMSA. With my knowledge of the past history, I can provide information on past decisions made. I have been a member of the SMSA for over 50 years and have tried to implement the objectives of our Charter, although trying to make it relevant to current conditions and technology. Before I retired, I was the computer manager of a Health Fund and have made my knowledge available to the School.

Paul Reid Cecile Cornford Vice President I have served as a on the SMSA board for nine years, including four years as the School s President. I am currently a Vice President and chair the School s Governance Committee which also has oversight of the Grants program. I am a father of three adult children and have four grandchildren. I wish to continue to serve the School and its members with a view to ensuring the historic traditions, values and culture are preserved for future generations to come.

Peter Clancy Paul Reid I have previously been a of the SMSA. I worked for the ABC for over 20 years in roles that improved the lot of 5000 ABC employees. These roles included: NSW Human Resources Manager National Industrial Relations Adviser National Occupational Health and Safety Consultant I was also heavily involved in building management nationally and for the safety of visitors to the ABC. I was Chair of the Commonwealth Safety Management Forum for all Commonwealth Departments where I sought better cooperation and integration in our approaches to safety across Australia. I also planned and implemented our national conferences. I wish to be re-elected to the board so that I can continue to improve services and to also introduce new services for the members. This would include more outings for members to places that they are interested in and which also fulfil the objectives of the SMSA. I wish to bring the ideas and suggestions of the members to the Board s attention so that they can be discussed by the Board and acted upon.
