1 About the Contributors André de Almeida is the founding partner of Almeida Advogados, a leading Brazilian full service law firm headed in Sao Paulo with five offices in Brazil and operations in the entire country. For the last 20 years he has been advising multinational corporations to do business in Brazil and elsewhere in Latin America. He is an officer of the ABA Latin American Committee and member of the Council and of the Executive Committee of the Inter-American Bar Association. Paula Azevedo obtained her LL.M. in International Economic Law in 2007 from Georgetown University, where she was also an Institute of International Economic Law Fellow and has been working in the antitrust and international trade department of Baker & McKenzie Brasília since July Previously, she worked at the Secretariat of Economic Law, handling antitrust investigations. Her work mainly comprises of cartel cases, merger control notifications and international trade disputes. Vanesa Balda is a partner of the Argentine law firm Vitale, Manoff & Feilbogen. She is a member of the Corporate Law Department of the law firm; Professor of Business Law at the School of Law of the Buenos Aires University; member of the Institute of Corporate Law of the Federal Capital Bar Association; and Legal Partner of the World Bank for the Program Doing Business. Helen Bardell is a partner in Baker & McKenzie s EU, Competition & Trade Department in London. Barrett, Jr. is an associate professor of law at the University of Toledo College of Law where he teaches International Business Transactions. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1988 and his B.A. from Amherst College in He has worked on joint ventures in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Marcelo Bombau is a partner in M. & M. Bomchil, head of its Mergers and Acquisitions, Media, and Entertainment areas. Currently he is the Membership Officer of the ABA Section of International Law. Guillermo Malm Green is a partner of the Argentine law firm Brons & Salas. Paul Luiki is a partner of the Austrian law firm Fellner Wratzfeld & Partners. His practice focuses on joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions in the CEE region. Prior to moving to Austria in the early 1990s, Paul practiced law at a U.S. firm after having obtained his law degree from the University of Iowa. Paul is admitted to the bar in Austria and in Ohio and is a Vice Chair of the International M&A and Joint Ventures Committee of the ABA Section of International Law. He is fluent in English and German. Ilya Nikiforov is a managing partner at St. Petersburg office of Egorov, Puginsky, Afanasiev and Partners. In particular, he has co-authored one of the leading Commentaries to the Civil Code of the Russian Federation (Parts 1, 2, and 4) that was published in 2004, 2005, and Paula M. J. Oviedo is a senior associate at Negri & Teijeiro Abogados specializing in employment law. She received her law degree from the Universidad Nacional del Nordeste in 1997 and is currently pursuing post-graduate study on labor law at the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Paula advises clients on both labor law and social security matters as they affect individual labor relationships, collective bargaining agreements, and labor litigation. Luciana Patiño is an Associate at the law firm Beccar Varela in Buenos Aires. Francisco Ribeiro Todorov is a partner of Trench, Rossi & Watanabe Advogados, associated with Baker & McKenzie, since His practice includes all areas of antitrust law, including merger control, cartel, and abuse of dominance investigations and compliance.
