2 Making a difference Asian Women of Achievement awards 2012 This is a significant year for the Asian Women of Achievement awards, the most established and prestigious programme for Asian business leaders, community workers and cultural figures in the UK. When I started this project, my hope was to spotlight talented but often unsung Asian women. Today, our vision is that these awards should be the pre-eminent platform for celebrating the contribution of diverse cultures and talents to UK society. This year we introduce important new categories, recognising Asian sportswomen and the AWA Community Award for an organisation driving forward the diversity agenda. Being nominated for the Asian Women of Achievement awards is a life-changing experience. Countless candidates have shared how the confidence, prestige and connections established through the AWA programme has lifted their aspirations to new levels. In 2011, for example, nominees and winners were invited to Buckingham Palace. With all the passion I can muster, I encourage you to support the Asian Women of Achievement awards by putting forward a nomination or suggesting a potential candidate. 5 Making your nomination Categories The Asian Women of Achievement Awards 2012 are presented in the following categories: AWA in Arts & Culture AWA in Business AWA Entrepreneur AWA in the Media AWA in the Professions AWA in Public Service AWA in Social & Humanitarian AWA in Sport (NEW CATEGORY) AWA Young Achiever AWA Community Award (NEW CATEGORY) for an organisation driving forward the diversity agenda. For full entry details please visit: Eligibility A woman is eligible to enter the Asian Women of Achievement Awards if: she is resident in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man and has been so for a period of 12 months before the date of application. she was born on the continent of Asia; or if she is born into an ethnic group or had at least two grandparents born into an ethnic group or groups, of Asian origin other than Caucasian.
