8 FROM THE DESK OF CONFERENCE CHAIR March 1, 2018 I think it would be appropriate to share some of my thoughts again in this Souvenir brought out on the occasion of Uniglobe College International Management Conference V. Uniglobe College affiliated to Pokhara University organized the first international conference on New Dimensions and Innovations in Management (June 6 & 7, 2012), the second international conference on Contemporary Issues and Challenges in Management (November 17-18, 2014), the third international conference on Changing paradigms of management: A way forward to sustainability (March 16 and 17, 2016) and the fourth international conference on Emerging issues and challenges in management: Developing talent, building organisation and creating a future (March 6 & 7, 2017). Now the College is again organizing another International Conference on Recent Advances in Management: Challenges, Initiatives and Road Ahead on March 6 & 7, 2018 which marks a history by itself in the sense that no college of university has organized so many international conferences in Nepal. It shows that how Uniglobe College is committed to bring academic excellence in the field of management. Uniglobe College has progressed from strength to strength in the past and become iconic which is a good news to all the aspirants who joined this college. Uniglobe College is organizing this international conference at a time when our country is passing through a new era. On the one hand, Nepal is able to come up with new constitution with a slogan Federal Nepal after a long struggle which took so many years and on the other hand, there is a challenge to implement new constitution. Being a small country, Nepal has now gone for most expensive form of democracy and a doubt has been raised if Nepal can sustain it in the years to come. It is a big threat to the country but at the same time it is an opportunity as well. All Nepalese are eager to see if this new constitution can deliver for the well-being of all Nepalese. The country is facing another threat arising out of a global financial meltdown which started from the west and which is threatening the growth rate of developing nations including Nepal. At Uniglobe College, we can simply hope that as a citizen of the nation we will not be distracted from the goal of building a strong nation based on the true democratic norms and values. Sometimes ago, I had mentioned in our Uniglobe Research Bulletin that the paradox of life has changed greatly over the years. I would like to remind that these days we have more degrees but less education. We are rich in knowledge but poor in judgment or decision making. We have more experts but at the same time we have more problems. We have more doctors and more medicines but at the same time we are less healthy. We have multiplied our possession but we have less values. Such are the changes taking place in our society. We talk too much but we do little. We have learnt to make a living but not a life. We have wider roads but narrow viewpoints. We have conquered outer space but not the inner space. We have fancier house but no home or with broken home. Most families have two incomes but at the same time more divorce also. These are just few changes we have been witnessing in our society where we live in and if we keep on making a list, we can make a big list. Hence, it has become a great challenge for all of us to deal with these issues. It is already a high time for us to produce educated people than qualified people, to promote a wider view of life, to develop an inner space, and to create a better home where we all can live happily. At this juncture, when I find that some students are not working hard, it just becomes unbearable for me. Uniglobe College is not only imparting management education but also involved in building basic values of human life and produce a good citizen with a wider vision which is so required for building a strong nation and the society as a whole. This international conference organized by Uniglobe College is one of the various activities directed towards this end. Uniglobe College has already completed nine years of its distinguished journey. The college is able to make an impact and make its own position in imparting management education in the country. However, we cannot remain contented with what we have achieved. There is no full stop to success. The college wants to do more, achieve more and make an impact more. This Uniglobe College International Conference V is also directed towards this end. I am glad that many of the students worked very hard for the last three or four months to come with the first research paper of their life but I also feel sorry for those students who could not prepare the paper for this mega event, despite of several reminders. In future also, we plan to organize this kind of international conference again for which we require the support of all. On the occasion, I take this opportunity to welcome all the delegates, faculties and students from inside and outside the country and also thank them for their support. One day I might die without saying good bye to all of you but I will never forget to say thank you to each and every one who contributed directly or indirectly in making this international conference a grand success.
