1 Probate, Estate Planning & Trust Section SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES by order of presentation Karin Prangley Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. Chicago, IL Karin Prangley is responsible for trust operations and wealth planning services in the Chicago Private Banking office of Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. and Brown Brothers Harriman Trust Company, N.A. In this role, Ms. Prangley assists high-net-worth clients with the development of comprehensive generational wealth transfer planning strategies and coordinates their investment, tax and estate planning objectives. She was previously a partner in the estate planning and administration group of Krasnow Saunders LLP and an associate in the trusts and estates groups of Arnold & Porter LLP and Winston & Strawn LLP. Karin is a Fellow of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel, the Vice Chair of the T&E Non-Tax Issues in Estate Planning and Administration Group of the American Bar Association s RPTE Section and the ABA Advisor to the Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act Drafting Committee. Since 2009, Karin has given over four dozen CLE presentations on estate planning and digital assets across the country, including to the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel, the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education and the Heckerling Institute. She has also been quoted extensively in local and national newspapers and magazines and featured on WSBT and WBBM s evening news for her views regarding digital assets and estate planning. She received a B.A. in Business, summa cum laude, from Mount St. Mary's University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif and was published in the Virginia Tax Review. Kathryn Cook DeAngelo Kathryn Cook DeAngelo Law Firm, Ltd. Surfside Beach, SC Kathryn Cook DeAngelo graduated magna cum laude from North Carolina Central University School of Law, Durham, NC in May After graduation, she served as law clerk to Henry E. Frye, former Justice and Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. She also has a B.A. in Business Education from Marshall University in Huntington, WV, and an M.Ed. from the University of Maryland, College Park, MD. Kathryn is licensed to practice law in South Carolina, North Carolina, the District of Columbia, and also admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Washington DC, the United States District Court, District of South Carolina, and the United States Supreme Court. Prior to attending law school, Kathryn

2 was a public school teacher and taught business/secretarial studies for about twelve years at DuVal High School in Prince George s County, MD. Kathryn has been a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) since In April 1995, Kathryn was the first attorney in South Carolina to become certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation, after successfully passing the first examination administered in November 1994 and completing other ABA-approved requirements for the specialty certification. In November 2009, Kathryn was among twelve North Carolina attorneys to become the first to be certified by the North Carolina State Board of Legal Specialization as a specialist in elder law. Kathryn was honored to receive the 2016 South Carolina Leadership in Law award. She also has an AV Peer Review Rating from Martindale- Hubbell. 3 The Honorable Leigh Powers Boan Georgetown County Georgetown, SC Leigh Powers Boan is a lifelong resident of Georgetown County. She is married to Jason P. Boan, and they reside in Pawley s Island, South Carolina, with their three children. Judge Boan graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1996 with a degree in Marketing and Business Information Systems. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2000 and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar the same year. Judge Boan began her legal career as Law Clerk to the Honorable Paula H. Thomas of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit. She then practiced law with the Bagnal Law Firm for three years before joining McNair Law Firm, P.A. in June 2004, where she practiced until joining the Bench in 2017 as Probate Judge for Georgetown County. In addition to the South Carolina Bar, she is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Judge Boan presently serves on the Probate Judges Advisory Committee for the state of South Carolina and is the First Vice President of the South Carolina Probate Judges Association. She is an active member of Prince George Winyah Church in Georgetown and has served as Board Member and Treasurer of the Georgetown County School of Arts and Sciences, past President of the Georgetown County Literacy Council, and former Board Member of the Georgetown Performing Dance Arts Foundation. The Honorable Molly D. Edwards Dorchester County St. George, SC Molly Edwards is the Associate Probate Judge for Dorchester County Probate Court. As the Associate Probate Judge, Molly works in all areas of the court, with an emphasis on handing the commitment hearings and procedures. Prior to coming to the Court full-time, Molly was in private practice where she focused exclusively on estate planning, probate litigation and administration, and guardianships/conservatorships. Molly has co-chaired local wills clinics for first responders as well as served as a presenter at many local educational probate seminars. Molly co-chaired the 2015 and 2016 Bench/Bar CLEs. She is also the chair of the SCAPJ Ad Hoc Mental Health/Chemical Dependency Forms Committee. Molly graduated magna cum laude from Winthrop University and cum laude from Charleston School of Law. During law school, she served as a Research Editor for the Charleston Law Review and was published in the Student Works edition of the publication. Following law school, she served as a law clerk for the Honorable Mary Blunt of the Dorchester County Probate Court. When she s not working, Molly and her husband, Andy, are chasing around their two young children, Callie and Flinn.

4 The Honorable Heather J. Galvin Beaufort County Bluffton Mrs. Galvin graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science where she was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and the Delta Zeta Sorority. She obtained her Juris Doctor from the Cleveland Marshall School of Law and is admitted to the practice of law in Ohio, South Carolina, and Washington D.C. Prior to moving to South Carolina; Ms. Galvin worked for LexisNexis as an Applications Consultant and Senior Legal Research Associate. Upon relocating to South Carolina, she served as an Assistant Solicitor for the 14th Judicial Circuit. In 2007, Ms. Galvin opened the Law Offices of Heather Galvin and specialized in the areas of family and probate law. As part of her practice she had the opportunity to serve as part-time Staff Attorney for the Beaufort County Probate Court; contract attorney for the Guardian ad litem programs in Allendale, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper Counties in abuse and neglect proceedings involving children; and pro-bono Special Prosecutor in Beaufort County for animal cruelty cases. In October of 2012, she was sworn in as full-time Associate Probate Judge for Beaufort County. In her spare time she enjoys jogging, reading, and tennis. The Honorable Dee A. Studebaker Lancaster County Lancaster, SC Dee Studebaker, a South Carolinian since 2014 has a solid legal foundation built on early practice at a highly respected boutique business litigation, tax and estate planning law firm in her native state of Arkansas. She interned for a federal district court judge and an appellate judge for the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Judge Studebaker has over 25 years of experience in legal research and writing. She regularly appeared at oral arguments before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals as the Research and Writing Specialist for the federal public defender s office. Later she served as deputy prosecuting attorney, chief of the juvenile division. She built a legal writing and consulting business from the ground up which grew into opportunities for her to write briefs and collaborate with attorneys across the country in nursing home litigation. She shared writing responsibilities summarizing significant court decisions for the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association. She authored amicus curiae briefs, organized or spoke at various CLE seminars and taught on issues related to story-telling, jury selection, legal writing, analysis, arbitration & law office technology. In 2013, Dee was recruited and tasked to build a legal clinic for poverty-stricken individuals. She developed a revolutionary a hybrid legal referral service and justice center which efficiently utilized the existing pool of local lawyers in their areas of expertise; connected them with a desire to provide meaningful pro bono services to underprivileged individuals generating excellent representation to people in need. She was appointed Lancaster County s Associate Probate Judge in July 2016 and was elected the first Lancaster County Probate Judge with a legal degree on November 6, She is also a professional artist.

5 Melody J.E. Breeden Turner Padget Graham & Laney, PA Myrtle Beach, SC Course Planner Melody Breeden is a Shareholder at Turner Padget Graham & Laney, PA. She has been practicing estate planning and probate law primarily in the Myrtle Beach area since Melody is licensed in both North and South Carolina. Melody is certified as a Specialist in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the South Carolina Supreme Court. Melody is also certified by the South Carolina Board of Arbitrator and Mediator Certification as a Civil Court Mediator. Melody is the 2018/2019 Chair of the Probate, Estate Planning and Trust Council of the South Carolina Bar. She serves on the South Carolina Estate Planning and Specialization Advisory Board. She is a member of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. Melody is a member of the following Bar Associations: the American Bar Association, the Horry County Bar Association, the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the South Carolina Bar. She is a Member of the SC Bar House of Delegate, and currently serves on the Nominating Committee.
