We are a land of opportunity where the American Dream is achievable to anyone willing to work for it. I grew up believing that the future was full of possibility and that joyful optimism came from being raised in a land of opportunity, a place where -- with risk-taking, hard work, and a little luck -- anyone ca make a better life. Today, that promise has been threatened by a stalled economy and President Obama's failed leadership. And that is exactly why I am running for President of the United States: to make the American Dream p ssible for every American willing to work for it. I still believe in the American Dream because I still believe in America. And we deserve a president who b lieves in the American people. As president, I will strengthen the American people by giving them more freedom... by letting them keep more of what they earn... by making sure our schools are teaching the skills our children will need for tomorrow... and by keeping America at the leading edge of innovation and technology. I have spent my life learning, living, and leading in the unique genius of the American free enterprise sy tern and if there is one thing I have learned it's that government cannot create the American Dream. We once built the interstate highway system and the Hoover Dam. Today, we can't even build a pipeline. We once led the world in manufacturing, exports, and infrastructure investment. Today, we lead the world in lawsuits and corporate tax rates. We once empowered entrepreneurs and rewarded ingenuity. Today, President Obama is crushing the dream and the dreamers. When I graduated from school, I stayed in Massachusetts and got a job with the best company that would hire me. More importantly, I was married and on the way to having five sons. Over the next 25 years, my business career had many ups and downs -- great successes and definite failures -- but each step of the way I learned more about the power of our great free enterprise system. 3 Page Three Free enterprise has done more to lift people out ofpoverty, to help build a strong middle class, to help educate our kids, to make our lives better, than all of the government programs put together. Ann and I have been fortunate enough to have lived the American Dream. During he course of this campaign, there are those who want me to apologize for my success. They actually want me to apologize for living the American Dream! Ifwe become one ofthose societies that attacks success, one outcome is c rtain: th r will b a lot I ss su cess. That used to be the promise ofamerica -- tl at everyone could have the opportunity to be successful. IfI am fortunate enough to be elected president, J will work tirelessly so every American will have that opportunity again. On the campaign trail I have met people like Norm Byrne, who ex mplify the innovative spirit that built this country. Nonn didn't get to go to college. He doesn't have an engineering degree. But he does have over 100 paten to his name. He turned a small shop in his basement into a successful company that helped build an industry. It is entrepreneurs like Nonn who are going to get the American economy back on track. My grandfather was in the construction business and he never really made it himself. But he convinced my dad that he could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. My dad never graduated from college. He apprenticed as a lath and plaster carpenter. Dad always believed in a country where the circumstances ofone's birth were not a barrier to achievement. And with hard work and determination, he became the head ofamerican Motors and the Governor of Michigan. Early on I learned that America was the land of opportunity. I grew up in an America that respected and encouraged entrepreneurs. This current administration is doing everything it can to crush our spirit ofenterprise and innovation. Over, please...

4 Page Four After three years and trillions of dollars in spending, Washington is suffocating the American Dream. That dream is on life support and we must save it. I am the son of a man who achieved the American Dream and I refuse to believe the American Dream is no longer possible. If you also believe we need to restore the American Dream, I need you on my team. Your support in the amount of$25, $35, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000, $2,500, or some other amount, can help elect a president who will fight to: Reform our tax code: In order to reignite the economy, I will lower tax rates to reduce the burden on all Americans. An across-the-board, 20% reduction in marginal individual income tax rates will encourage hard work and productivity by allowing Americans to keep more ofwhat they earn. Plus, it will encourage businesses to hire, raise wages, and grow the economy because businesses that pay taxes through the individual income tax system account for more than half of all private sector jobs in the United States. Reduce the corporate tax burden: On April 1st, the United States became the country with the highest combined corporate tax rate in the developed world, but I will reduce it to 25%. I will bring it in line with other nations, making America a place where investment capital flows. I will also abolish the job-killing repatriation tax so American companies who do business overseas will bring their profits here and invest at home. Promote savings and investment: I will promote avings and investment by maintaining the 15% rate on capital gains and dividends and eliminating the tax entirely for those with annual income below $200,000. I will repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax and finally abolish the death tax. All of these measures will encourage Americans to save and invest as well as encourage business investment and economic growth. Abolish Obamacare: To make our government simpler, smaller, and smarter, we must repeal Obamacare, eliminate other Obama-imposed impediments to economic growth, and make bold cuts in spending and commonsense entitlement reforms. 5 Page Five This is a bold plan to be sure. In fact, the plan I am offering represents the most substantial reform of the federal government in modem history. But it's absolutely necessary if we want a robust economy with more jobs, less debt, and smaller government. My goal is to restore the promise of the American Dream. 6 Page Six President Obama promised he would fix three things. First, he said he would hold unemployment under 8% -- it hasn't been under 8% for 38 months. Nearly 23 million Americans are unemployed, underemployed, or have just stopping looking. Then, he said he was going to cut the deficit in half -- he has doubled it. Third, he said he would make Medicare and Social Security solvent for future generations. Three years later, he still hasn't offered a serious proposal for either one. Because ofpresident Obama's failed leadership, our debt is too great and our opportunities too few. I am running for president to offer more than just a change in policy. I am offering a dramatic change in perspective and philosophy. We don't need more rhetoric -- we need a bold and fearless leader to put forward pro-growth policies that will get our economy moving again.
