Learn how to hold, tune, strum, fret the dulcimer, read dulcimer tab, play backup chords, and participate in a jam session all while learning to play great songs! We will play melodies from songs of the British Isles and learn how powerfully evocative the Dorian mode can be on the dulcimer. Mountain Dulcimer B/I Aaron O'Rourke Flatpicking from Scratch. Flatpicking is a cool skill that can be used to create fun variations to tunes you already know. In this class you ll get the basics of this technique with a few simple tunes and get prepared to explore more complicated aspects of flatpicking with a solid foundation. Mountain Dulcimer B/I - I Stephen Seifert Popular Gorgeous Hymns! We ll cover five of the best known hymns and how to play them as instrumentals or with singers. We ll work on strumming and simple fingerpicking. Mountain Dulcimer I Jeff Furman Playing In Different Keys, Styles, and Tunings! This workshop will attempt to open your mind and broaden the variety of music you play on your dulcimer. We will focus on techniques and repertoire as we explore the melodies, moods, and rhythms of music beyond DAd. Please bring a capo.

Mountain Dulcimer I Sarah Morgan Old-Time Fiddle Tunes by Ear! Come learn some unique and fun old-time tunes that are from the eastern mountains of Kentucky. We ll be discussing the mountain dulcimer s role in old-time music and how to add rhythmic drive and variation to these tunes. Mountain Dulcimer I & Up Tull Glazener Early 20th Century American Popular Music. The early 1900 s is often referred to as the Golden Age of American popular music. We ll spend the week focusing on some of the repertoire from that era. Capo maybe required for some arrangements. Mountain Dulcimer I & Up Janita Baker Ensemble for Standard, Baritone & Bass! This class is great for improving your sight-reading and timing skills as well as an easy and fun way to experience the musicality of an ensemble. We ll work on two to three arrangements per day. If you have a bass and/or baritone dulcimer bring it as well as your standard. Standard and bass come tuned to DAD, Baritones come tuned to ADA. Mountain Dulcimer I/A Sue Carpenter Razzle, Dazzle Chords! Chords are the spice of music. By substituting some jazzy chords you can turn an ordinary tune into a razzle, dazzle arrangement. Focus will be on the structure of the chords triads, sixths, sevenths, and major sevenths, how to build them, find them on your dulcimer and use them to spice up your playing. Mountain Dulcimer I/A Susan Trump Making Really Interesting Arrangements! Let s use all the techniques we know, (and maybe some new ones) to arrange tunes to keep your interest and take your music to another level. We ll use arpeggios, broken chords, substitute chords, bass melody with chords, rhythmic variations and more! Please bring a pencil and TAB paper. DAD

3 Mountain Dulcimer A Hunter Walker Old-Time Repertoire. Often not included in jam sessions and tab books are squirrelly, crooked, and obscure tunes whose history is as fascinating as their melodies. This class will delve into the repertoires of old fiddlers from West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia and North Carolina. No tab for this class, however, Hunter will offer tools for retention of the material. You should be able to play tunes and have a working knowledge of various chord shapes along the fingerboard, and be open to how diverse Old-Time Music can be. DAD, 6-1/2 fret, capo. Bowed Dulcimer B Ken Bloom This class is for entry level and beginning bowed dulcimer players and those who want a good foundation review. We ll cover all the basics of fingering, bowing, and the beginnings of playing expressively on this wonderful instrument. Chromatic Dulcimer B/I - I Erin Mae Learn to navigate your chromatic fretboard by learning scales, chords, note names, and fancy licks. Erin will teach you several songs to give you the tools you need to learn the music you love. Capo is required. Hammered Dulcimer All Sam Rizzetta Hammered Dulcimer Maintenance & Care! The HD is a mechanical beast that can only be tamed by careful adjustments and maintenance. This will be hands on and Sam will have demo dulcimers for you to practice on. We ll cover broken strings, loose pins, adjusting bridges, tuning tips, electronic tuners, re-padding hammers, getting the best tone, finish touch up, installing TriStander legs and more! Hammered Dulcimer B Ruth Smith A Very Good Place to Start! Let s start from the beginning and cover everything you need to know as a new player, including how simple it is to make sense of all those strings. Nothing is too basic to ask! We ll cover hammers, tuning, technique, instrument layout, chords, and lots more including some fun beginner tunes that you can start playing with others right away.

4 Hammered Dulcimer B/I Matt Dickerson Navigate the Hammered Dulcimer Like a Pro! You ll learn the ins and outs of the where and how s of the HD. In this series we will be finding scales and chords all over the instrument, all the while learning the proper approach through detailed explanation of left and right hand leads. We ll also learn a few tunes along the way! Hammered Dulcimer B/I Anne Lough Hymns. Old time favorite hymns are so easily and beautifully adapted on this ethereal instrument! Learn some melodies as well as ideas for embellishment. Hammered Dulcimer I Pam Bowman Playing Backup on the Hammered Dulcimer. Thinking beyond the melody line (or rather behind). Performing with a band, Pam plays plenty of backup. This is one of the aspects of playing the HD that Pam is asked questions about the most! Hammered Dulcimer I/A Dan Landrum Carol of the Bells. You ll use this arrangement for the rest of your life! It requires tricky hand separation and is a great class for advancing players for that skill alone. Plus, it gives you a great addition to your repertoire. Ukulele B Steve Smith Beginning Ukulele Skills. Starting with the basic terminology of the ukulele, we ll move on to begin forming basic open chords in several keys. Simple right hand ukulele strumming will be taught while learning a number of simple songs. No experience necessary. Ukulele B/I Danny Shepherd Ukulele Jam! Play lots of simple songs with basic chords and strum patterns. Singing is encouraged. Having fun is mandatory. Let s Jam! Vocal All Maddie MacNeil Joy of Singing in Harmony! 5 Guitar B Hank Gruber Learn the basics common chords and strumming patterns. This class will focus on learning to change chords quickly by strumming along to some familiar tunes. Fiddle B Pam Weeks Fiddle from Scratch! This class is for very beginners or folks who have been playing but are still at a beginning level. We ll learn lots of basic techniques on fingering and bowing, getting good tone, and finding your way around your fiddle. Fiddle B/I David Wilson This class is for those who know only the most basic rudiments but want to learn techniques concerning bowing, good tone, fingering and intonation, violin and bow posture, etc., and apply them to basic tunes. Banjo B Sue Massek Beginning Clawhammer Style Banjo. This is a kind and gentle way to learn clawhammer banjo; this class is for absolute beginners. It will emphasize mastery of the right hand and you ll learn enough chords to play a few simple fiddle tunes. Tablature will be available but the focus will be on using your ears. Banjo B/I Jon Pickow Carter Family Old-Time Favorites. We ll add some wonderful old-time music to your repertoire. This will also be an ideal class if you like to sing. Mandolin B Tom Cunningham We will learn the basics of playing the mandolin, an accessible instrument that is an essential part of bluegrass, old-time, Celtic and folk music. We will learn how to hold the instrument and how to pick, and then play a few basic tunes, as well as learn some beginning chords. Autoharp B MaryJo Ward No, the picks go the other way! You ll need one thumb pick and two or three finger picks! (Picks are available in vending area.) We ll learn basic strums, in different time signatures, and how to use your Autoharp to accompany singing, and to be a rhythm instrument for your jam. Bowed Psaltery B Tish Westman Bowed Psaltery for the First Timer! You will learn to tune and care for your psaltery.
