4 Charlie Boisson Made up of straight, rounded and broken lines, interrupted or erased and often monochrome planes and surfaces, Charlie Boisson s combinations of primary forms (rectangles, squares, circles, etc.) summon up abstract art by way of constructivist idioms. These assemblages of variations of matter render an abstract matierism concrete. It is a question of density, mass, scale, opaqueness, and transparency. These

5 many different forms of matter are installed in a situation. They are brought together, juxtaposed and arranged so as to influence one another, respond to one another, and contradict each other in their composition,tooling and usage. They make sense together, in a space of dialogue: materials in the company of other materials forming a community. His sculptures are a set of traceries between usual objects and spare materials, and they respond to a logic of assemblage determined by the distinctive morphological features of chosen objects. The patina of the ancient tool, which refers to the idealized imagination of agricultural and artisanal trades, is combined with decidedly contemporary materials and associated with new technologies 1 such as Corian, LCD screens, and silicon. It is also a question of symmetry and enantiomorphic 2 mirror image-like structures. These symmetrical relations are themselves endlessly duplicated in the reflections of LCD screens including movement in the rigidity of these sculptures. These screens are at once a reflecting and transparent surface, they disturb the eye by enabling it to pass through them. They are like a three-tempo matter: innerness, interstice, and outerness.
