Research The research part of the science project is when you research and find all the information that you can about your project (question). You can use books, the internet, experts, magazines or videos to obtain information. You want to learn everything you can about your project (question) so you can make an educated hypothesis (prediction) about the answer to your science project question. Here are some research questions you need to answer about your project. Remember you need to use 2 books and 1 internet source. 1. What is acid rain? 2. What causes acid rain? 3. What do plants need to grow? 1
Hypothesis The hypothesis is where you make a prediction about your science fair project experiment. You look at your question and then make an educated guess/answer on what you think will happen. For example your question is: How does acid rain affect plant growth? So, you answer that question based on what you learned when you did your research. Write your hypothesis below. Based on my research I believe that acid rain does does not affect plant growth. I believe this because 2
Materials This is where you list every item you need to complete the science project/ experiment. 3
Experiment (Procedure/ steps) This where you list each step of the experiment, make sure you list every step. If another person wants to recreate your experiment they need to be able to follow the steps you listed. Your project has 6 steps that you need to list; I have listed the first one for you. 1. Label the plant containers Acid Rain and Tap Water
Data and Results Date Height of Acid Rain Plant Appearance of Acid Rain Plant Height of Acid Rain Plant Appearance of Acid Rain Plant Beginning of Lab Day 2 Day 4 Day 6 Day 8 Day 10 Day 12 Day 14 5
Conclusion This is the part of the project where you look at your experiment and the data/ results and write 1-2 pages of what you learned from your experiment, you make conclusions of what you discovered. For our science project you will need to answer a few questions. Use complete sentences, with capitals and correct punctuation. 1. Which plant grew the most during your experiment? 2. How did the vinegar (acid rain) affect the growth of the plant? 3. What do you think would have happened if you had continued this experiment for 1 month? 4. Acid rain is usually more common in areas with a lot of industry and vehicles. Explain how you think these things contribute to acid rain? 6
Bibliography The bibliography is where you list all the resources that you used while completing your science fair project. I listed the science fair project book that I used to get this experiment for you. Please list your 2 books and 1 internet source that you used for your project. You could use and list more but must have the minimum 2 books and 1 internet source. My book I am listing does not count for your resources. 50 terrific science experiments Pam Walker - Elaine Wood - Janet Skiles - Instructional Fair

Journal The journal is the part of the science fair project where the scientist keeps their notes or journal entries of their thoughts during the science experiment/ project. Every time your child works on their science fair project have them make an entry in their journal. They can talk about what they did, what they are going to next, what they found out, something they want to find out, and anything else they want to write about, as long as it has to do with their science project/ experiment. The longer the experiment, the more journal entries you will have. Example journal entry: December 6, 2012 Today my teacher passed out the science fair packets. There are seven different experiments that I can choose to do. I think I would like to learn about what acid rain is and how it affects plants. I can t wait to begin my project. My mom said we might go on the weekend to buy my supplies. Date 9
