1 Welcome to Norwalk High School! You are about to embark on the next journey in your educational career. We are looking forward to a year-long adventure with you in Algebra. There are a team of teachers that are looking forward to the school year. This packet contains topics that you are expected to know prior to entering Algebra. You have learned these skills over the past few years. These examples focus on both mathematical skills and problem solving. This packet should be completed independently. Just like the redesigned SAT, some sections will require the use of a calculator, while other sections a calculator is prohibited. In the directions, it will say if you are not allowed to use a calculator. If you are having a difficult time adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing numbers, we suggest you study this over the summer. For example flashcards can be used to help with basic facts. Also, you can use Khan Academy, Purple Math or even Google to refresh on these topics. The summer packet is due the first day of class. You are to complete this assignment in pencil and show all work. Your first test of the school year will be on the topics that you are expected to know entering 9 th grade. For the school you will be required to have the following supplies.. TI-84 plus or TI-84 CE Graphing Calculator.. inch ring binder with 8 dividers. Red Pen 4. Mechanical Pencils 5. Loose leaf paper 6. Colored Pencils Enjoy your summer and we can t wait to meet you in August.
